    My regret is
    1) not extending the aircon discharge outlet in the toilet to the floor trap. I have to wipe dry the floor every time after use.
    2) Not installing a ventilation fan in the toilet.
    3) Not installing a net over all the windows because I want to ventilate the house when I am not at home and not worry about bugs coming into the house. Some of my furniture is getting moldy thanks to Singapore's high humidity.
    4) Not constructing a wall shelf in the bathing area to put shampoo bottles and stuff. Currently using a stainless rack.
    5) Not installing stainless steel cabinets in the bathroom. I have to make sure I airdry my toilet all the time so that my laminated cabinets will not rot over time.
    6) Not installing a door for the kitchen. This is to prevent moisture and oil from entering the foyer and living room while cooking or washing clothes.
    7) Not installing a secondary light in the box-up area in the toilet. While the current light (white light) in the center of the toilet is sufficient, it would be nice to have a soft warm light around the toilet when I don't need a strong light.
    8) Not cutting the drainage pipe for the washing machine to be shorter, the one by HDB is very high and the draining by the machine takes a toll to try to push the water over the height of the drainage pipe.

      Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and I hear you about the ventilation fan in the toilet. Now I have candles in my toilet. And we wanted to do a door too but there’s no space for it and it’s so EXPENSIVE!
      Also for the toilet, I wish I got the microbial coating because there’s alway some algae after a while? I have to wipe the sink area down every time and it’s irritating 😩

      @@kirshannmarcus Toilet is a small space but it is the most troublesome place to maintain. You have to be careful when burning candles, the soot might cause black and yellow ceiling over a long period of time. HDB should redesign the toilet to be on the side of the kitchen and separate if far from the living room and bedroom. The toilet being in the middle of the house become the centre of water vapor and bacteria of the house, which in turn provide mold a perfect condition to breed too.

      @kirshannmarcus  Рік тому +1

      @@wumingkkk that's true! I try to burn candles only when I have guests. Yeah but I will consider getting a ventilation fan in the toilet now, thank you!

      @@kirshannmarcus Oh I see. I am getting alternative now, asking mozziefy (brand name) staff to demo how the netting works. Once it is ok and done, I will leave all the top windows open permanently as a bit to save electricity in long run. Will go back to the ventilation fan if it does not go too well.

    Love how you enunciate your words. Great suggestions. You could try localised lighting like a standing lamp and shade which could diffuse light and aren't as harsh on the eyes.

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Рік тому

      Hi thank you for your comment! I do want localised lighting especially when there are funky looking lamps. Only problem is my house is small and I don’t want any standing lamps to occupy space. But I am on the hunt for small compact ones. I might change my dining lights altogether haha

    Hi and thanks for sharing. Some suggestions: (1) I have been blinded by top hung glossy cabinets that are too reflective. OTOH there are now matte type cabinets that are smudge-resistant (2) Consider battery operated table lights to make that area work as a study space (3) Lamp shades would help to diffuse the lights over your dining table.(4)Consider patching the gaps in the tiles using ready made tile grout mix e.g. from Pye. Takes just a few minutes to apply (5) Consider an electric portable clothes dryer, which comes with a heating element at the bottom. Speedier than air drying alone - especially with the rainy weather.

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Рік тому

      Hi thank you for the suggestions! And yeah I guess you can’t win with either glossy or matte. But the smudge resistant one sound promising!
      As to (5), problem is space because my 2 room flat is so small haha. Will probably consider a steigen for the laundry.

    Thank you for sharing! I heard that 2 in 1 washing machines and dryers are actually not very effective since not all clothes are suitable for the dryer function. Maybe can consider getting a steigen dryer installed?

    Should use Fenix NTA laminate for the Matt finish. Anti Fingerprints and scratch resistant. It’s also very nice to the touch.

    for your ant problem, buy those grout pastes and go over the holes. it would definitely help instead of spraying constantly.

    The stain and marks tends to become more obvious on dark laminates. But thanks for sharing.

      I see! Well lucky me who wanted a dark themed house😅. While the stains are more obvious, I find that it hides marks well. My black wardrobe was nicked a few times from opening the other door but you can barely see the marks

    how many months does it take to renovate after getting the keys?

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  2 місяці тому

      hmm I did my reno during covid so took a few months! I would say factor in minimum 2/3 months because of these things:
      1. You need to find a ID or contractor. A lot of back and forth, finalising designs and quotations which may take some time. You might take a bank loan which will take a week to approve around there.
      2. Depends on how popular your ID or contractor is and the season.E.g. CNY season will have limited or no slots, which means you have to wait a month or two before they can start on your house.
      3. Some furniture places do not have ready stock and will take time to order and ship to your place. I waited 3 weeks for some pieces
      Overall, the reno process takes a while.My best advice is to have a place to stay long after you get your keys so you won't be stressed by timelines to move in! Hope this helps.

    DO NOT get a 2-in-1 Washer Dryer combo. Get a separate Washing Machine and Dryer. You can get those that are same brand and companion models where you can stack them & it comes with a stacking kit. Or you can get the best washing machine you like and the best dryer you like & stack them up using shelves from IKEA or plenty of other shelving options.
    2-in-1 Washer Dryer will not last, will not be kind on your clothes either and are very high maintenance in terms of keeping it mold/odour free.

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Рік тому +1

      Oh my. Thank you for this! I regret doing my laundry area. I had more than enough space to do a laundry and dryer combo😩

    • @deepanmurugan467
      @deepanmurugan467 Рік тому +1

      @@kirshannmarcus I think a Washer & Dryer stacking is what most BTO owners do nowadays. I personally prefer the washer & dryer to be side by side instead of stacking them though, then can use the space above the washer & dryer to store laundry detergent & stuff, basket(s) for dirty clothes etc. Always felt stacking them up blocked natural light coming into the kitchen from service yard window.

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Рік тому

      @@deepanmurugan467 true! It depends on one's kitchen space because having them both in floor would mean having to bend over both times.
