Wow growing up in ghana we could watch Nigeria TV during the harmattan season and boy it brings back memory. We had audio tapes of chief Zb and my Saturday house cleaning was done with playing of the tape... Thanks for this. Even though not a Nigerian, chief ZB was certainly captivating....
@@alhassangangu4357 Who are you are? Who are you are? Yes, yes, I grew up with ZB, Shokoya, Akpeno, Magnus, etc too! I am so nostalgic seeing them again! I miss those days, life was good!!!!!
@@omobanedo9602 I honestly think the Nigeria ministry of culture should bring the archives of these acts and remaster them on dvds and sell them. For me growing up in rural Ghana, we only had audio tapes, so seeing them on UA-cam just bring memories. I remember an episode where Gringory was telling Akpeno about a dream he had where Chineke God asked everybody to write all the bad things they did, before they started, Chief Zebrudaya had already finished and went to ask for more chalk. Chief Zebrudaya went into a rage and said " why you are told Akpeno, Akpeno na P&T, before morning fowl are make kokorokoo, the whole universal of the world are hear it" what a talent!!
@@alhassangangu4357 Oh my God, you are so correct. You are one of the wise. Trust me, that moment in governmental sanity will come when a state or the government will come to that realm and UPLOAD those memorable arts and culture of our lifetime. Thanks my brother from Ghana!
@@alhassangangu4357 You are correct my brother. It will happen eventually when people continue to realize the pioneers in arts! Right now it is all about Buhari, Boko Haram, and the separation of states agitators.
My eyes are feeling up with tears watching programme. Brings back the good old days.. I wish NTA had them in DVD but I guess NTA is too incompetent to do that
good luck with that NTA is busy burning the archives of classic Nigerian shows, mismanagement galore!! These shows would make so much money on DVD and it would be such a cultural and economic boom for Nigeria
"I, prince Jegede Shokoya, ... the son of the soil, and by the grace of God, the only young millionaire in the whole universe" Freaking Classic!!! LOL!!!!!
The three both of you here.... Chai! Ovuleria, may your soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. Esien Igbokwe and Jegede, may your souls continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen. Good old days.
I Dr. Prince Jegede Shokoya, the grandson of Idi of Idi Araba, the son of the soil and by the grace of God the youngest millionaire in the whole universe. 😂😂😅😅 Claude Eke played the Jegede Shokoya character so well.
80s era, when there was no tribalism, no nepotism. Meanwhile, not too long civil war just finished oo. God help this generation. Hope the next generation will do better than ours.
"I, Dr. Prince Jegede Shokoya, the grand son of Idi of Idi Araba, son of the soil, and by the Grace of God, the only young millionaire in the whole universe" "So... you're concur with me that happy bad day are excuse for squandamanion of money" 😂😂😂
For years, I had Zebrudaya's encounter with Mr. Bankrovitch on tape - an indictment of Nigeria's leadership or lack thereof that remains valid till date. Then I lost the tape. I miss the entire cast of The Masquerade - ZB - the chief himself, Ovuleria, Natty, Jegede Shokoya, Gringori and Clarus. Zebrudaya's translations of Igbo expressions into weird English tickles me. Remember - 'where are my slippers?'
One of the plays to remember that there was a time Nigeria was one, with one destiny and shared interests, irrespective of tribe, ethnicity, politics, religion.
no there wasn't! these igbo casts tried their best to imagine a Nigeria that was one. unfortunately y'all still and must always hate the visionary igboman.
I met Zacchaeus some time 2015 or so at an ATM and asked him how they did this program so well back then. He told me that they were government workers working at NTA, earning regular normal salaries. And had time to think, write and rehearse the skits. You can see that the moment the government stopped paying salaries, we started getting shit programs on TV as the actors spend all their energies hustling for money instead of writing good scripts, rehearing and producing. They are artists, not hustlers. The BBC till today 2022, still does this same model. Pay workers salaries, then the workers think up scripts and make comedies. No hustling.
I am miss the "new masquerade" very very plenty. When I was a boy of the old days, I was watch it with black and white tv. Time are really gone. But I am happy that I was enjoy the good old days. Ka Chineke me ezioku.
My aunty of blessed memory worked briefly with jegede (rip) on some acting project. Told us stories of how he spoke some Yoruba dialect seriously. Assumed he was until I checked his name.
@EnuBed Please EnuBed help upload as many videos of Masquerade on UA-cam if possible you will be very popular overnight. It will be a nice thing to celebrate our 50 years as a nation. Its really a great Nigerian TV classic.
Good times! It would be fantastic if there is a New Masquerade reunion, so we can see the surviving actors together once again. They should also release a collector's DVD released containing all the episodes, behind the scenes, actors close-ups, etc.
Jegede Shokoya, Alias four thirty...mhen this is so 1980z /early 90z, The program where I never saw a scene of the outdoors, I love miss those days mhen, The New Masquerade, remember watching this with ma family on our Black and White TV...God bless our past, present and future....YOR!!
The theme song always take me back in time ,and in 90s when I was like 6 years old I use to visit my uncle with this kind of chair ..he used this kind of chair till 98 when I was like 7
NTA ( do they have a new name?) needs to release the DVDs of classic shows like the Village Headmaster, Zebrudaya, For Better for Worse etc ....That is If they still have them in their archives....That should be another source of income for them.
@spicee221, thanks for your comments......................If many You-Tubers are interested in the "masquerade" series, I promise to provide several interesting videos of them that I have back home in Nigeria when I visit from UK. This is however barring copyright laws and similar problems.
I watched this particular episode of birthday as a primary school back then in the 70s. Clarus and Giringori thought it was bad day and was sorry for her because they don't know what birthday means. Nice actors I must confess. How I wish I can relive my childhood days
@SheLovesSmoothJazz, I swear by St Peter`s moustache, all I said in the previous comments are as true as the gospel. If I travel to Nigeria in the near future, I hope to collect some of the series of the "masquerade" for posting on the U-Tube for the viewer`s enjoyment.
