Respect Due. 🐨 is the joint. Comparison to the MPC is trivial. Each is its own Beast. Combined are a Bigger Beast. Beatmaker 3 vs. MPC is more likely comparable being that Beatmaker 3 has the ability to host AUV3 and IAP. To each their own. Lets make 🎶.
Agreed. I love both. For getting quick ideas out literally anywhere, Koala is the undisputed champ. Do you have all the options that an MPC has? Nope. Does MPC have all the options that Ableton or FL or any other DAW has? Nope. But these aren’t apples to apples comparisons anyway. And this new Koala mixer is something else. You can flesh out complete ideas and export easy to DAW. I personally love Koala and for $14 I’ve spent on it is unlike anything else. (let’s be honest 80% of adults in the entire world already have a smart phone out of necessity so including that in the price is just silly). Finally, Koala is developed by one dude who has been so receptive to feedback and updates. I feel much much better about supporting him than I do inMusic (bye bye Moog ✌🏽).
Studio: MPC One connected to multiple synths and stuff Couch: SmplTrek and mobile gear (iPad, iPhone, or stuff like the MC-101) On the move: Drambo (king of kings), Koala, NanoStudio and AUM. Just use the right tool for the right job! Koala is amazing for starters though - probably one of the best options especially considering the price.
Nice comparison. I can tell some will be partial to hardware because it sounds “fatter” or “better”. These days it’s beginning to hardly tell the difference. What a great time to be in the present times!
Here’s my view on it. Koala on your phone, beat maker 3 iPad, laptop daw of choice. I have a Maschine and a sp404, but honestly I could do everything without them. Save your dough or blow it. Just make music by any means possible and enjoy the process.
I am very lucky in that I have an MPC One, a Digitakt and a Maschine MK3, I also have a M1 MacBook Air with Cubase, Ableton Suite, Bitwig Studio and a bunch of VSTs. On my iPad are numerous music apps. By far and away the most value for money music making system I own is Koala. You can run Koala on the most basic iOS and android device, pretty much everyone I know has one of these. So for the price of a round of drinks you can pretty much have a beat making beast on your device and it is always with you. As you may have guessed I love Koala.
what are you talking about, a koala sampler for example is 15 bucks and a new ipad mini 2 sealed is 110 bucks, KZ planar headphones, and now you can record video from the screen, take any sample and create... but the MPC needs to be connected to power , technically serviceable, since it has physical knobs and pads, and the Cirrus logic chip and amplifiers from the iPad are smart enough for playback, and this MPC is exactly the same electronic device, it’s not a classic like the MPC 60, MPC 3000, MPC 500, which was greatly underestimated in its time... so friend, I don’t understand why you need a midi controller or an external sound card in the koala sampler.
Koala works on Android too, for those who have android devices and wanna check it out. I think people get into koala for convenience, not because they don't understand the MPC. I have it on my android phone for field recording and creating my own one shots
Dude doesn’t know that, his latest video is him shitting on Elf Audio for the comments of individuals. Claiming toxicity… as an mpc owner for over 2 decades I can honestly vouch that as far as communities go? The MPC community is toxic AF going far back in to the day’s of MPCTutor’s MPCForums (pre UA-cam). They would shit on everything not Akai and anyone not using Akai… worse than vinyl purists and vegans 😂😂😂
I use a 10 yrs OLD iPad (Air2 €40) that works with KOALA, AUM and LOOPY PRO (all latest versions) running at the SAME time. MiniLabMK2 plus a Korg PadKontrol as controllers. Adding ATOM2 (advanced pianoroll), SAMPLR, whatever + sum free FX and such, you can create an MPC killer and it still is MUCH cheaper. And if the CPU can’t handle this, buy an extra iPad like I did 😅 (iPad Air2013 32gb for €25). I still use my faster iPhone XR (which I got for free) for some gigs, but the screen is to small. PS: MPC didn’t invent PianoRoll. It was invented in the 1800s and in the 80’s it was already used by Cubase o.a. I used it first since I stept from trackers to FruitLoops 3 I think MPC didn’t have piano roll till ten or fifteen years ago. Still a useful video though! Thx 🙏 PPS. Harry Mack is king 👑
8 inch Amazon tablet + Koala = ~100 bucks. That's one of the cheapest stand-alone solutions I've seen so far. If one goes for a big screen on music gear, it usually gets expansive. PS: Google Play Store has to be installed to get Koala from an Amazon device. I already did that - no problem.
@@pgback3620 I'm still happy with the Fire HD 8 from 2020 (2022 edition is the latest). It has a long-lasting battery, and they still deliver updates. You just need the above hack for Koala.
I just gave Marek a small bug fix, so the Android navigation bar will not overlap with the lower part of the UI anymore. It will be part of the next update.
I have made music on the iPad, in the past. But there’s a reason why pads exist on drum / samplers computers. With that being said, I do own the Korg nano-series and Arturia Spark. I use the Korg plugKey as an interface. With that being said, the iPad has many different use cases.
I use Koala just on my phone (cheap Samsung phone). Nothing else. I've got all my one shot drums and breaks on an sd card. If I like a track I'll just export it and finish up the mix on my laptop. But that's it. No need for any extra gear and I have a phone anyway so I didn't buy the phone for Koala sampler. I also use Maschine and have had multiple MPCs. Just the convenience of Koala is unbeatable.
Glad someone is talking about the koala sampler …. Been using it to record foley samples and edit them and then airdropping them into session but you can fully make beats in it !
idk why you were pushing the point on “you on a 5 dollar app on a phone that costs 1000 dollars” like most people don’t already have a phone. i mean, how many people do you think watched this very video on their phone?
Keys Wallet Phone 👀 You guard them with yo LIFE. So... yeah. You could risk carrying an MPC with you. Ya gotta pack it good. Store is, etc... But ya, phone is NEVER LEAVING YA SIDE. So... having a capable and intuitive sampler app is an excellent idea. Imo.
I love koala & I use it almost exclusively at this point mainly because I find myself being way more creative & productive with less these days.. HOWEVER, I would not recommend anyone go buy an iPad solely for koala.. it’s a great beat making app for those that already own an iPad
I think, generally, it’s important (if you can) to try out as many samplers and their workflows as you can…and pick the one that you feel comfortable with. The only sampler I use is the Novation Circuit Rhythm. It’s nowhere near as feature packed as other samplers, but it’s perfect for me. Fast and fun.
Use koala sampler as an iaa in garage band for drums . Use GarageBand for your instruments and for auv3s . After you rearrange your beat export it , open up koala import audio , turn up the volume export current sample 🤯🤯🤯super high quality sound that makes me mad because I love my mpc up an iPad can almost stomp it
I’m familiar with sample merge, what I’m saying is with overdub one note replaces another while playing on in sequence mode right, so it led me to think that’s what the “live quantization feauture was, I cant find any info on how it works and it was only added 1 or 2 weeks@@artisans8521
The cost argument only holds so much weight. Who doesn’t already have a smart phone now? Your have to have one anyway. It’s not an extra expense. An Mpc is. The analogy was of course mpc one and iPad, but Koala 🐨 will run on an old iPhone SE that your grandma passed down to your little brother.
My samsung has 24 gigs of ram memory, both the ram and the chip are way more powerful than the akai, but the akai is really also a sequencer so in a way they don't completely compare in that the akai is not just a sampler but a sequencer for other hardware.
The capabilities of Koala within the iOS ecosystem are off the grid when compared to the MPC line. Give Ave legit one month diving into Koala + AUM and he ain’t looking back.

I am better on guitar and bass than keys because Ive put more time on guitars. Youre better on mpc as evidenced by the "please don't go" sampled beat you flipped awesomely on there. Given time, you'd be just as sick on Koala. For someone like myself who never made beats on an mpc, this simulates the experience well enough
At the end of the day it doesn't matter watch you create on when the end result is measured by someone else's ears. No one listen to music outside of from the production community and have matter to them what someone made it on. The listen could care less about everything other than how it sounds and make them feel. The whole argument is simply invalid for either. Cost wise it's a no brainer. Check out some of those Koala battle videos and you'd think half of it was made on your favorite gear when it was actually made with Koala...
Did you just say Akai invented the piano roll? Cause I think at least 5 other companies/people have that claim and they all came before the first MPC. Just sayin'!
Iv learned so much from you Ave. People are gonna hate. Only a few uneducated people hate. Its not even close to the 99% of people who appreciate you, and respect you. Thank you for the great video. Im gonna stick with mpc. But it doesnt matter in the end what u use. As long as you love it. Thats forreal what matters.
I ask him about adding an Au3 feature to Koala…When he did the mixer update… I kinda got the feeling that he wasn’t interested at all in that option ….But i do love koala even with out it…. It would be great though…
Can’t really compare the 2, Koala is more like a SPXoX a Linear Phrase Sample Player not a Music Production Console, it’s a sketch pad not a studio Center piece. The inspiration behind Koala is Roland’s SP series not Aksi’s MPC range. It’s a great gate way into music production for people who don’t wish to fork out big bucks for a hardware unit. It’ll run a a $100 or less phone/tablet. This is an unfair competition in my opinion.

Dope stuff… the most realest objective feedback I’ve heard when it comes to gear reviews…
Studio: MPC One connected to multiple synths and stuff
Couch: SmplTrek and mobile gear (iPad, iPhone, or stuff like the MC-101)
On the move: Drambo (king of kings), Koala, NanoStudio and AUM.
Just use the right tool for the right job!
Koala is amazing for starters though - probably one of the best options especially considering the price.
Don't forget gears like the Tracker Mini or the DirtyWave M8, they're no slouch when it comes to portable Daw in a box.
GOLD! Next MPC vs BM3?
As you may have guessed I love Koala.
what are you talking about, a koala sampler for example is 15 bucks and a new ipad mini 2 sealed is 110 bucks, KZ planar headphones, and now you can record video from the screen, take any sample and create... but the MPC needs to be connected to power , technically serviceable, since it has physical knobs and pads, and the Cirrus logic chip and amplifiers from the iPad are smart enough for playback, and this MPC is exactly the same electronic device, it’s not a classic like the MPC 60, MPC 3000, MPC 500, which was greatly underestimated in its time... so friend, I don’t understand why you need a midi controller or an external sound card in the koala sampler.
...and this MPC is exactly the same electronic device, it’s not a classic... THAT'S WHAT"S UP!!!
The info in your video description states Koala is for iOS which is true but not the whole truth. It's also available for Android. ✌️
Koala works on Android too, for those who have android devices and wanna check it out. I think people get into koala for convenience, not because they don't understand the MPC. I have it on my android phone for field recording and creating my own one shots
That sample is BOY oh BOY bananas. Great way to flip that classic. "Hey baby, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you." 🤣
Just so ya know, Koala was made and is maintained by just one guy, Marek. He also closely listens to the community and drops major updates regularly.
I used it first since I stept from trackers to FruitLoops 3
I think MPC didn’t have piano roll till ten or fifteen years ago.
Still a useful video though! Thx 🙏
PPS. Harry Mack is king 👑
Those are Boys II Men chops. I remember that album from high school...
I already did that - no problem.
any good recs? im thinking about moving from phone to tablet coz excessive koala usage
@@pgback3620 I'm still happy with the Fire HD 8 from 2020 (2022 edition is the latest). It has a long-lasting battery, and they still deliver updates. You just need the above hack for Koala.
Good thing cost isn’t my defining criteria for music creation. Nor do only want to have one device be the only source I have.
I just gave Marek a small bug fix, so the Android navigation bar will not overlap with the lower part of the UI anymore. It will be part of the next update.
@@towerrunner4675 Yoo appreciate u, I can barely use the thing landscape mode coz of this
I agree w you so much ave that koala should have key detection
lol and I'll be over there forever
Never use koala but it looks similar to the bandlab sampler
That beat is straight up fire..
Definitely inspired ✅🫡
Have you made a beatmaker3 vs MPC shoot out…Ima make some popcorn for that ish
Beatmaker 3 is a step up from Koala sampler is like a mpc on Ipad.
With better effects handling and better pitchstretch
Check out zen beats
Glad someone is talking about the koala sampler …. Been using it to record foley samples and edit them and then airdropping them into session but you can fully make beats in it !
6:23 ahhh. I was looking for note repeat in koala 🐨. Thnx 👍
idk why you were pushing the point on “you on a 5 dollar app on a phone that costs 1000 dollars” like most people don’t already have a phone.
i mean, how many people do you think watched this very video on their phone?
😂I’m watching it on my Mpc
Most people have an iPad or iPhone or android tablet
mpc didnt "invent" the piano roll, I used that first on Cubase in 1989 on my atari and wiki says there were prequel to that
Koala plus a $35 Android phone, and bam you are making beats at the bust stop in no time
I have MPC and KOALA....KOALA has internal sounds now,,, you should do a new video on that.
16:00 they run good sales. Got one coming up around the corner.
Imo.
sequencer mode is literally a looper
Great vid always get honesty.👏🏻👏🏻 on a side one have a look at the amp freqq how it uses Akai midi controller with an overlay.
i love you brother, but saying "without being biased" while selling mpc master class is somewhat sus
I love koala & I use it almost exclusively at this point mainly because I find myself being way more creative & productive with less these days.. HOWEVER, I would not recommend anyone go buy an iPad solely for koala.. it’s a great beat making app for those that already own an iPad
This app is also available for iPhones and Android devices... and most people already have and Android phone or iPhone
Madlib useing ipad …. You dont need fancy gear :)
Use koala sampler as an iaa in garage band for drums . Use GarageBand for your instruments and for auv3s . After you rearrange your beat export it , open up koala import audio , turn up the volume export current sample 🤯🤯🤯super high quality sound that makes me mad because I love my mpc up an iPad can almost stomp it
Appreciate your work - haters gon hate
TRY BEAT MAKER 3 vs MPC I HEARD THATS A GOOD COMPARISON
I just purchased the MPC One + about a few months ago and I love ❤️ how everything works so far.
Android tablets cost 50 bucks, Koala wins but MPC is the goat
Be looking for an overdub feature, there is a feature in the BPM called live quantization, I have tested but it doesnt seem to be ODub.
You can combine two samples dragging one on top of another. It's no overdub, but I use it as such.
I’m familiar with sample merge, what I’m saying is with overdub one note replaces another while playing on in sequence mode right, so it led me to think that’s what the “live quantization feauture was, I cant find any info on how it works and it was only added 1 or 2 weeks@@artisans8521
For example if you play in sequence and your kick is off you can’t replace with a new kick in its place, it just doubles up. Am I making sense?
that beat tho woooo! lets go!
That beat is dope, I hope you finish it.
good vid and i thought koala had Ableton link and bass
How does it compare to the mpc ipad software back in tha day?
The cost argument only holds so much weight.
Who doesn’t already have a smart phone now?
Your have to have one anyway.
It’s not an extra expense.
An Mpc is.
The analogy was of course mpc one and iPad, but Koala 🐨 will run on an old iPhone SE that your grandma passed down to your little brother.
My samsung has 24 gigs of ram memory, both the ram and the chip are way more powerful than the akai, but the akai is really also a sequencer so in a way they don't completely compare in that the akai is not just a sampler but a sequencer for other hardware.
If you're poor like me, the koala can do everything needed especially on a powerful device.
The capabilities of Koala within the iOS ecosystem are off the grid when compared to the MPC line. Give Ave legit one month diving into Koala + AUM and he ain’t looking back.
Iv never use koala but it looks similar to the android bandlab sampler that was actually really good easy to use and sample direct or use sample packs i made a few banging tracks on it so im gonna have to give koala a bash
I use both of them all the time
Android Samsung tablet A9 plus is great
Independent headphone out. Plus type c connection.and a zoom H5 field recorder, nano kontrol 2 daw
Control
But koala isn’t a daw. The MPC is. This comparison don’t really make much sense.
Great video
Might hook up my mpc to my koala app now 👍🙏
Been hearing some mf get funky on that koala
I thought the piano roll was invented by one of those software tracker types from the 80s no?
I mean...shit works yo. I got it on my phone and shit is knocking with the mixer add-on..
I was about to watch the video but I can’t look at red samplers without having PTSD anymore!
Sick beat!!
Check out some of those Koala battle videos and you'd think half of it was made on your favorite gear when it was actually made with Koala...
true
The mpc sounds much better then koalo but its still a cool little app
Run koala into a boss sp and an alalog mixer. The sound coming from that little apple dac dongle is good quality.
Look up the preset for the ep-133 put it in 🐨
They are both programs one is a standalone device the other is on an ipad phone etc its really not that deep, i prefer koala over mpc workflow
Bro, ask them to start automation and they won’t have any prices!
Great video, but I’m more focused on them headphones. Been trying to find them. #Jealous 😭😂
They were limited editions at zzounds
I really like koala for messing around. Stupid cheap. I wish it would record internally from youtube though. I am upset w my brand new mpc one plus. Has crashed countless times doing basic stuff. I think the issue could be latest mpc firmware. I can't image mpc being so successful if it crashes everytime you use it.
My mpc live 2 never crashed on me .
@@boomboombaby9140 Issues were fixed after that comment. In fact, I picked up a Key 61 after liking the Mpc environment. My son now has the One Plus. He loves it.
look guys if you a hardcore mpc fan go for it, if not just get this app plus some peripherals like an apd or some other midi shit and this lil mf software puts in WORK. i use that or ableton, miss me with that inconvenient mpc software!
Not sure why you’d compare koala to an MPC. If anything the comparison is more like Koala to an SP404. Lol
Is all the same shit!! Is up to us on what sounds we put on pads and how we lay it down on the grid.
One of them is $5.
Correction one of them are 20 after you buy all the add ons. Plus you need to buy a $300 - 1200 piece of glass. Then need to buy other accessories to make it like the other.
iOS - Cost (& it's ass)
Android - Free (including all the updates)
Tablet or Modded Fire Tab - (Koala works on old fire 7s and 1.5gb ram tablets)
If you know good music then you can make the same or better beat in a 100% Free app nowadays.
you are SO delusional....lol
