How did Nola get to know a celebrity that she could blackmail to get drugs in? 20 years growing up with a family that only sobered up long enough to cash their dole checks and 10 years with and abusive husband until she went on a killing spree and went to prison in WA, broke out and robbed a bank and then into wentworth. Would have been nice if they had given some background as to how Bea got this job,and what she did in the meantime after she escaped. all of a sudden she shows up at this Posh home with a bunch of snooty ladies. Of course now that she's off again what does it matter
I must say I like the idea of filming Bea's escape in Sydney. Nice to see some decent weather shots for a change too instead of the gloomy conditions usually on show. Erica has her faults but its easy to see why she questions whether its all worth it at times, especially given the attitude of Douglas and the department she has to answer to. He makes her job harder than need be by constantly acting like an idiot.
8ballpoolking1 "Dickless" Douglas is such a wimp! But how can he acknowledge Erica and her legitimate demands when he is afraid of his own shadow and always too busy kowtowing to "the department"? For him everything revolves around politics and PR strategy games! He has been lobotomized by the department and it is clear that he is completely divorced from the reality of the penal system and how it actually effects the lives of both the prisoners and their guards! Yes, we know that the guards are supposed to be "free" but when you think about it ---actually they are also "serving time" just like the prisoners themselves! Double shifts mean at least 16 hours "behind bars" with the prisoners! Sure, the guards can "go home" at the end of their shift --- but they too must report back to the prison the next morning! LOL So, actually, to keep their jobs they must allow their lives to be just as regulated as the prisoners by "department" rules and regulations that are often senseless and oppressive!
Shirley Marie Bradby You hit the nail on the head there Shirley, that is the whole problem. The minister dictates to Douglas and he carries his orders through to the governor. Unfortunately, those two who give the orders sit there day after day in some office miles away from the prison and have absolutely no insight into life inside a place like that. That is one reason why the system so often fails. Meg is a good officer but she still learned one hell of a lot in just 72 hours of life on the other side of the bars. The officers have a tough routine to adhere to admittedly and you made some valid points, but at least they have the choice to walk away if it really gets too tough for them. Its the prisoners I symphasise with most of all because some of them are not hardened criminals, but either made a mistake of are victims of misfortune, and yet still have to remain there in the rotten system whether they like it or not.
8ballpoolking1 Yes, you are absolutely right.....the officers CAN walk away but is seems like being a prison officer becomes "a way of life" and the officers realize after few years, that they probably cannot (due to economic and family obligations) --- and actually do not really WANT to leave their job which also defines them professorially and as a person. Case in point: Meg! :) It would also seem that some officers eventually start to think that perhaps they are are not fit for any other job --- remember when Fletcher tried to get a job outside of the penal system and he discovered that he had been "branded" and that no respectable firm would consider him for employment? The other guard Steve (I think) was not really interested in working for anyone else because he just wanted to sail around the world on his boat! But he might have had an unpleasant surprise if he ever decided to seek employment later on.....and put prison guard on his resume! LOL. So, in conclusion, of course in absolute -- the officers have more chances of employment and of leading a fairly "normal life"! But it must be acknowledged that just like the prisoners who often cannot get a job, as soon as the prospective employer finds out that they have a criminal record --- the officers also end up with a "pseudo prison record" of their own that follows them around and renders them almost unemployable for most private executive jobs like the one Fletcher was trying to get! So, there are actually two groups of inmates in a prison --- albeit on different levels --- the criminals and their guards!
Shirley Marie Bradby Yes, Shirley, you made a valid point about Jim Fletcher and his inability to change career direction. Unfortunately, its bad types like Joan Ferguson and Vera Bennett who give the whole profession an uneasy feel to it from an outsiders perspective. Prospective employers may sometimes tend to have a one dimensional perception on them or some may even stereotype them just to be on the safe side. This could perhaps be because they feel that they may have developed an attitude problem and/or might find it too difficult to relate to other people well. If memory serves me right, Jim Fletcher's general attitude seemed to be portrayed as rather harsh and unfriendly at times, and there is no reason why an employer would consider someone who is prone to that kind of behaviour. I guess being in a place like that day after day, in whichever capacity it may be, would understandably have a negative effect on many people in some way, shape or form, that is if it goes on for long enough. Meg is an exception to the rule, but then she was born in prison so maybe that has given her a more broadminded view on prison life in general.
8ballpoolking1 Thank you for your thoughtful reply! Yes, you are right, now that I think about it! Jim Fletcher did show signs of being a bit rigid and fanatical about the place and role of women in society and also about discipline in general, due to his experience in the military -- unfortunately, influenced by nut-jobs like his "friend" Geoff Butler. These attitudes would certainly not bode well in most work environments! Yes, Fletcher eventually did mellow out a bit, but as you mentioned he could still, on occasion, be rather harsh and unfriendly depending on the circumstances. In the story-lines, we also discover that both Joan and Vera have some rather serious parental issues that have heavily influenced their ability to relate to others, and in the absence of family or friends --- their work environment bears the full brunt of their need to be accepted --- yet to still be in control! On the other hand, Powell and especially Meg --- as you pointed out ---- try to be more sensitive and broadminded! Thank you for your attentive comments! :) In closing, I would just like to say that the more I watch PCBH, I realize how little I know about prison reform or the actual conditions of prisoners and guards in our modern-day prisons! The "new" left hand cells were only the cell doors, however, with just enough room between the studio walls and the set for prisoners to emerge from the fake cells.

Maxwell could report her to the deputy governor or governor for verbal harassment. 🫤 so she wasn't very bright doing so just then.
Good on Bea for telling off that snot-nosed Sonia Hanlon. Interesting hearing her mention Newtown and especially Redfern -- a great hat-tip to Sydney's Aboriginal community. That was really a big deal I think and all the more remarkable considering the riots some 20-odd years later. This scene gives us even more insight into Bea's character and it's actually wonderful.
I LOVE these Sydney scenes with Bea. it always bothered me that all these escapees barely made it outside Melbourne. the idea would be to get as far away as possible I would think- maybe Darwin. of course Bea, being the smartest of them would be the only one to figure this out. Dumbass Margo escaping from Barnhurst and immediately heading back to Melbourne AND the halfway house no less...

George Barrett Lizzie has definitely changed her opinion on cannabis since then (or less than 300 episodes ago depending on how often the fans watch the show haha) since Antonia McNally gave the women joints to smoke in the first season of 1979. 😃
My only question is what did they do to decide whose pics went in the opening credits .it was always Bea Lizzie and Doreen, or other prisoners like Sandy Edwards or Nola Mackenzie , Karen Travers and Lynn in the early episodes. But what about Margo or Chrissy or Mouse? They were top-tier players also.
@@spectrumlocalb191 I never thought of that. you have a point. it seems like characters who came in through the front door ,so to speak ,as arrested inmates were then featured. Margo and Mouse we're characters who one day showed up inside the prison. I just thought it would have been nice to have included them.
...of my life. I saw entire lives transformed for the better in amazing & unimaginable ways. My own literary skillls can be rather lacking at times. 9:43 thats one way to give yourself away knowing a question on prisons 😅 beas not as smart as she makes out...but hey! on the plus side least she can do crosswords.😂😂😂😂😂 10:55 seems like ferguson is also doing a dumb thing stirring up one of the inmates infront of the teacher. Maxwell could report her to the deputy governor or governor for verbal harassment. 🫤 so she wasn't very bright doing so just then.
AAAARGH!!!! Nola's mugshot is back!!!! *~wheezes~*
+NativeMoon Better than Lainey's mugshot, in my opinion.
Joan sounds like Vera in the earlier Episodes when she criticised that Teacher.
This new character Laine is a terrible bore.
the freak at her best with Maxine at the beginning
I LOVE these Sydney scenes with Bea. it always bothered me that all these escapees barely made it outside Melbourne. the idea would be to get as far away as possible I would think- maybe Darwin. of course Bea, being the smartest of them would be the only one to figure this out. Dumbass Margo escaping from Barnhurst and immediately heading back to Melbourne AND the halfway house no less...
+James Cannon Darwin? Do you know how much a flight cost in those days? They're prisoners on the run, not middle class business men
+NG Sooty I mean there definitely ways to get places other than flying. lol and this was 30 years ago. pretty sure domestic flights weren't that expensive.
James Cannon it's almost 2000 miles, you'd stand out like a sore thumb if you didn't fly and flying was expensive
+NG Sooty not buying your logic at all, but Okey doke...
James Cannon it's not logic, just common sense
The Di learning to read storyline and Laineys tattoos is super exciting.
Don't worry someone is bound to die or get beaten up soon. So your small mind will be nourished.
@@baronmeduseYou must be pretty high on the spectrum
@@bernadettelamb5990 Not as high (or low) as you though.
Is saying "but" at the end of a sentence slang in Australia? I've just never heard that word said there before.
Whereabouts was that?
Yes it is aussie slang, not used much these days thank god. Silly but
Yes, agree, losing much of our old aussie slang now, but it's a sign of the times, due to the internet. Nothing wrong with Americanisms and they are great in America but are being spoken here more & more. Oh well
Some people used to say it but :)
I used to say it as a teenager
The man that worked in the hotel bea booked into later plays Joyce Barry's son
Quite a trusting receptionist if he let's guests pay when they check out. Nowadays they want all payment up front, photo I.d and credit/debit card details.
True. If you book a hotel over the phone they want your credit card number and if you don't show it's bad luck - they have your money.
You look like Boomer from the new Wentworth
I think that was quite funny that Lizzie taped the tea bags to the bottom of the table
LOL Great episode. Bea isn't that big, it's that awful overall she wears to be that awful woman's housekeeper. A lot about size is knowing what suits you. But wanting to be anonymous, maybe she wants to look larger.
I loved read it yourself books.
Love seeing Bea back
The best line in all the episodes I’ve watched was
If Davo finds out he’s a male she will have a stroke
Lmfao can’t fault it
12:10. Or how about being a tatooist. I'm sure they won't turn her down
James Quinn Now there's a good idea, although I think she wants to move away from tattoos whether she has them or anyone has them. 😃
I was hoping to see Lizzie stoned again. 😆
George Barrett Lizzie has definitely changed her opinion on cannabis since then (or less than 300 episodes ago depending on how often the fans watch the show haha) since Antonia McNally gave the women joints to smoke in the first season of 1979. 😃
Yep it is herbal, LMFAO!!! Smoke up, ladies! Ha!
I love that Bea got that bitch. Im surprised she didnt get her earlier than she did.
Good disguise from Bea, good to see her back again. Don’t know why she had to work for that stuck up Sonia.
Probably not too many opportunities for prison escapees still on the run
for petes sake...get rid of this self pitying Lainy
Haha ..Bea looking like Beryl Palmer 😅
Old Lizzie with the so called herbal tea, we see if she enjoys it lol lol, i cant wait
20:00 honestly thought that was Anne Reynolds coming in
1:25 Was that Meg or Fallout Boy lol.
I don't like Lainy I hope she isn't on the show for long and how come she gets her pic on the opening credits??
tara f it’s an old show get over yourself
They removed her pic, back to Nola
My only question is what did they do to decide whose pics went in the opening credits .it was always Bea Lizzie and Doreen, or other prisoners like Sandy Edwards or Nola Mackenzie , Karen Travers and Lynn in the early episodes. But what about Margo or Chrissy or Mouse? They were top-tier players also.
tara f Because Reg Grundy liked there new add on cast to be recognized.
@@spectrumlocalb191 I never thought of that. you have a point. it seems like characters who came in through the front door ,so to speak ,as arrested inmates were then featured. Margo and Mouse we're characters who one day showed up inside the prison. I just thought it would have been nice to have included them.
Don't bother writing me reference lmao. class.
It Trude and Prue from Kath and Kim!
...of my life. I saw entire lives transformed for the better in amazing & unimaginable ways. My own literary skillls can be rather lacking at times. But working with people who for whatever reason, don't have that same basic ability is very positively humbling to oneself & taught me to be more appreciative, more content & considerate. Volunteering won't make you rich or great & definitely not perfect, but it will make you better. I ever so very slightly apologize for the public service rant. =)
Well done Nola! About time for some proper drugs...lol
38:42 what accent is that what Julia has..????
hah " Morris: Why the effin not? " i think she let that one slip. you dont hear Morris curse much at all otherwise
Laney is such a depressant whenever she enters a room all the happiness gets sucked out. She's like a dementor out of harry potter with her gloomyness.
I love that description of her. She's definitely a dementor.
Laney reminds me of
a character from Grease , can't remember her name.
But she was one of the top ladies in the film
She even makes Nola appear good-looking in comparison
Nola's " cousin" Bill. I guess you don't need an ID to visit a prisoner in Australia
Sonja is a terrible swimmer, what a poor decision to put THAT on film.
Feel sorry for the girl who can't read.
When is the freak going to have another crush?
yeah thought she was gonna have one when the chicks boyfriend left til she slammed her against a wall instead
37:02 erica always has that sad face for some reason i lov it
8.47 YESSS BEAS BACK FINALLY
How fast has she learnt to read lol
Why is Bea cleaning in 3 inch heels????
Nola is a real Del Boy ! lol
I used to watch this 30 odd yrs ago
Ah, you never know, some rich types are so tight they'd cut any corner at all if you sell your labour cheap enough. Britain is filled with au pares and cleaners working for cash, no questions asked.
Love how bea used her real name for an alias...kathleen Willis
Ummmm I'm confused 😕 how has bea used her real name as an alias Kathleen Willis??!! Her name in this Beatrice and in real life its val so Im definitely confused 😕

Then I stand corrected I didn't know that well spotted!!! 😊😊
You'd of thought Bea would have checked the papers
Im sure bea pic on paper that woman reading thought bea was gonna look there
Why does Fergo get away with being so nasty to the staff? The way she talked to the new teacher.
Can I ask who ownes the rights to the videos
Will see door soon 😊
