  • Here's 3 DIY gifts that people will actually use (OR you'll love them so much, you'll want to keep them all for yourself -- either way, we're not judging)!!!
    Learn how to make:
    - a personalized coaster set
    - vintage-looking earrings (or they can be rustic wine charms)
    - Old English crockery ornament
    (Sally says 3 gifts in the video but since the earrings can double as wine charms - so really you're getting FOUR different handmade gift ideas)
    In this tutorial, learn how make stamped impressions in polymer clay to create a personalized design on each DIY gift or decor item. Then use a simple mix of acrylic paint and water to create a glaze to antique the cured clay.
    Some of these would be perfect for DIY wedding table decor, gift bag, or other special occasion. You can even batch make these beauties to make a bunch at the same time!

      @@secondhalfmama3955 you follow the directions that come with the clay. Not all polymer clays bake at the same temperature. Sculpey bakes at 275° for 15 minutes per 1/4” of thickness. Metric: 130° per 6mm of thickness.

    These technics also work well for projects with children. One year we used stamps to make refrigerator magnets and pins for an Easter project. The kids ranged from 4 to 12 in age.

    Pretty gifts! When I try this, as I have arthritis in my fingers, I will use a small firm crafting roller to impress the stamps into the clay. I have also seen others ink the stamps before use to produce coloured designs. Thanks for sharing your skills x

    I haven't watched all the videos yet ... And I am a newcomer to this craft.... Brand new interest! When you refer to baking ... What temp? And is this in a regular baking oven or special oven? And.... Do you bake them on a metal sheet and what kind of paper do you have under the polymer clay? Thanks!

      Hi there! So glad you found us! We bake the polymer clay in our IOD moulds ❤You can bake it in your home oven, usually at about 275 degrees. Our moulds can only go up to 425 degrees, but it's very rare you would ever even need to go that high. You can cover the mould with a baking dish of some sort. Happy creating🤗

    • @IronOrchidDesigns

    Ladies, I love you but you need to watch some jewelry / polymer clay vids so you are passing along correct methods and inexpensive options to your viewers. For example, you make a jump ring weak in structure by opening it the way you did. Place your pliers at 9 and 3 o’clock with the opening at 12. Now push one plier forward while you pull one plier back. This way when you close the ring, it comes back perfectly leaving no space for the wandering ear wire to escape, or for a jump ring that is out of shape and weak. As for sculpey gloss, it is a good product but you can save your money and purchase Pledge floor wax in the large bottle for 10 dollars that will last the rest of your life and you can add pigment with no problem. If you don’t feel that confident in that choice, then a polycrylic from the hardware store is also perfect if you need greater durability. Hope you are ok with me leaving these tips and keep your great projects coming!

    • @englishcharm2449
      @englishcharm2449 3 роки тому +1

      Just a note... the Pledge wax might not be the best option for the coasters, just in case cups of hot liquids will be placed on top as heat will melt the wax finish.

    • @IronOrchidDesigns
      @IronOrchidDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      We love that you shared your tips and techniques! Thank you so much! We admit we are NOT polymer experts and we have a lot to continue learning from others ❤️

    • @derendacragg2288
      @derendacragg2288 3 роки тому +1

      @@englishcharm2449 HI, the Pledge floor refurbisher that I suggested is not a wax product.... it is a water based clear liquid that provides shine and durability. It is completely heat resistant.

    Just wondering why your IOD clay wasn't used for these projects? Wouldn't it be a good fit? I haven't used either yet so I'm assuming the Polymer has a better outcome? Thanks!

    • @IronOrchidDesigns
      @IronOrchidDesigns  3 роки тому +2

      There are similarities between air dry clay as well as some major differences in the make-up of the clays. Polymer is more suited to this type of project for its durability! Hope that helps ❤️
