- Ever wonder what happens to a package when it gets shipped? We stuck a GoPro in a clear acrylic box, had it filming the entire time, and got a chance to see what the package went through on its way to your doorstep.

See Everything That Happens When a Package is Shipped | WIRED
It ruins the magic when the whole video is staged.
Why has no one replied to this comment
@@lmmabatu i got u bro

Not really. I wasn't looking for some, "magical" or "highly entertaining" video to watch. I was trying to find out what happens when a package is shipped, and it fulfills its purpose. You do know that videos can still be entertaining, even if they're staged right? I hate that. Like when someone films a dumb "prank" on one of their family members, but it's obviously staged. Like, who cares? Just have a laugh. You would laugh if you saw it in a movie, so what's the difference? Especially when it's so obviously staged that there's no need to even point it out since everyone and their mom can see it's staged.
Puts a GoPro in a transparent box.
Films the GoPro from the outisde.
* FACEPALM *
jajaja
Would love to know the model of this gopro with eternal battery life
Johnson Lim it is call de asking ups to travel with it and charging it
yeah, it could be possible if they put a huuuge battery bank inside the box. But they didn't
Staged video.
HAHA! I had the same thought instantly :D
and fucking 3rd person mode so you can film despite it is covered....
Fake. I don't see the part where hostile sorting plant workers making minimum wage kick the package off the wall like a soccer ball, or where the package is hidden in the warehouse from the end of Raiders while they extort ridiculous brokerage fees from you. And the video doesn't end with some sketchy person grabbing it off a porch and hauling ass to the nearest pawn shop.
this.
isn't it funny that you barely see people saying honestly saying "fake" in comment sections anymore
Irony of your post is that rare exception of where an irate person is the norm.
Your comment is fake.
This is a joke guys
Lmao
Well that was disappointing. Why not go into more detail, maybe show some of the shit the camera saw?
Exemptus Ikr. They barely showed snippets of what the camera captured. So dissapointing, I felt a fraction of my soul shatter into individual pieces hitting my ribcage.
"Sweet, we get to watch the package go through the process.... .... .... .... or not."
This is sponsored content. There is no way the GoPro would have held enough battery internally to even make it off the truck. Camera didn't see shit
if it had been on timelapse mode I could see it happening. Of course, they didn't even have a label for the scanners to scan, so there's no way this ever anything other than a stunt
All staged ....... not "real"
Would be funny to see this actually done right.
Yeah, they would've stuck the posting label on the back of the box so the cam was facing down the whole time OR stuck it over the camera lens on the box 😂
paw101 just use a 360 camera, a big battery pack and a really big sd card
or the GoPro would have lost battery power before it even got off the truck.... They only have an hour or so of battery life on the internal battery.
As a ups driver I can confirm this is fake. There is no way a ups truck is packed that lightly. Also if it was legit they would've showed the amount of abuse the average package takes in the process. UPS is not as smooth sailing as this video makes it seem.
Yes but it should seem obvious because I don't think they would ship a camera just like that in a clear box
Also I know this was 4 years ago but if you somehow magically manage to see this then I have a few questions. What if the item is fragile? Do they take more care of it?
@@CosmicMaanz Not really. Sometimes the truck was so stuffed there was just no way to be 'gentle' about things. Often times there'd be a brand new tv packed on the floor next to a car axle or something else big and heavy, they'd roll around together cause there just wasn't anywhere else for it to be.
The sheer numbers involved are staggering. For UPS it's just all about maximizing volume per truck. Easily one of the most intensely demanding jobs I ever had.
I am so happy I grew out of that job. Was a good reference and the best learning experience for the industry, but it was way too much for way too little. UPS is not set up well for a good long term solution imo.
How long can a GoPro record?
I think because they had someone else filming the GoPro box they used the GoPro app to turn it off or record to save battery.
Pharmit24 at least 2 hours i believe depends on go pro and sd card
Just a little over an hour recording 1080p at 60fps on the internal battery alone.
2h max
I believe indefinitely if it is being charged. But then it depends on the power brick if it is mobile.
What was the point of this video? The majority of the video shown here isn't from the GoPro. I think WIRED needs to rethink their video formats or else I'm unsubscribing.
It's yet another paid ad made to look like editorial content, courtesy of Wired.
Yeah I know. It's just disappointing when you know they can do better.
I know right I was looking for this comment
That's actually so frikin cool
Also, who's watching this because there trying to pass time since they ordered a package
mee😹
so the modern day santas are actually UPS Pilots haha
you say that like past santa clauses didn't pilot anything... everyone always forgets the reindeer
Me: *orders glass cups*
Deliveryman: *throws package at door really hard and runs to the car and drives away*
If this isn't sponsored by UPS, then WIRED has some explaining to do for these aggressively staged shots and eyeroll-inducing campaign lines. Come on.
Need to do this when they dont know there is a camera
why is no one talking about how much energy it takes to deliver a package, mostly for some that is an impulse buy?
They are too busy shopping online.
Because how else are they gonna get the fuzzy dice for their car, or the ugly sweater for grandmas Chihuahua. Buy AT A STORE. Make it themselves NAH.
#AdForUPS
Let me know where you can find a go pro battery that lasts that long
I find it odd that people say that this is staged with arguments like endless battery life, nice handling etc.
But it SHOULD BE obvious when there are 3rd person shots of the package, area etc.
yeah fr
@@toast_2375 call Sal when has Amazon ever shipped a clear box And a package would take a lot more punishment on its way than that
An acrylic box will never survive the trip intact!
One hell of a click bait, the damn camera box doesn't even show anything that matters
Need this done for the usps. I track my packages and the route it takes can be numerous.
totally agree! I recently paid for priority shipping and somehow both items were bumped into a ground shipping bin! 6 days later, still no scans or even its' whereabouts! Very frustrating...
The internet is so amazing I'm waiting on an order and just randomly thought about this and boom all it took was a 30 second search and I got the exact visual I was looking for.
This definitely needed to be time-lapsed...
You need to do this with a 360° camera!!
Looks like we almost saw the package of the recipient himself
"See everything that UPS would allow us to film inside of one of their facilities while we followed along with a camera crew and the package actually went nowhere." would be a WAY more accurate title for this video Wired. You are better than this crap.
Only 1% of the footage was from the actual goPro O.o
this is completely stupid. What UPS truck drops off packages and has just this clear box on the shelf. Next time use a real box and pinhole cameras on 6 faces.
Lol, as if WIRED would do that. You are aware this was just promotion for UPS right? Most likely paid. Not to mention that when they "Scanned" the box, there wasn't a label. I thought the point of the video was to like, watch the trip from the view of inside the box, but literally half of it was filmed like a "how it's made" video. What was the fucking point of rigging up an acrylic box with a go pro in it to see the delivery, when you have a whole fucking camera crew right next to it filming everything. That the fuck.
Is this a GoPro battery ad? Such a strong battery that stands through the entire shipment 😊
if only they actually handeled the package that gently down here on earth not in my wildest dreamms
Gracias
Amazing
cool stuff
Pretty cool!
This is marvellous! But how do they keep it the right way up all the way over ?
I remember seeing a different, longer video where they accompanied a cake on its FedEx voyage. Been looking for it but can't find it. I do remember the dozens of comments by people who worked (or had worked in the past) at FedEx and said that the cake would never have arrived in shape, that it would have been smashed up etc., pretty funny.
legit thought you sent it all the way through. Would've been lovely to see with ground shipment
Wheres the full uncut footage? No point showing some footage, saying it happened and that it was O
can't there was no "full journey"
It was staged
Used UPS. That's your first mistake.
No wonder my package is taking 31 days in transit
Lol did you see the package at :40
700k subs =400 views in half and hour
Dear Wired, Please upload the full video of this camera's journey!
can't there was no "full journey"
It was faked
and what was the point of the camera in the see through box? would it have made a difference if it was a turd instead of the camera?
If it's clear and they know does that not defeat the purpose
How long did the battery last?
None
When your waiting for you package to arrive ...👁 👄👁
Yes lol
I would have like to see it done with a hidden pinhole camera, so we can see what really goes on🕔
I'm gonna do this but how did u get the GoPro with forever lasting battery life?
It probably didn't, you can see multiple scenes not getting recorded from the GoPro, which probably means they probably did the video with UPS.
was thinking this 5 mins ago waiting for the postman where is he!?!?
“The robots aren’t taking our jobs” aged badly
“Plane” .. “ Final Destination “ ..
Logistics baby!
They better not damage these Jordan 11s I’m bought
disappointing and unrealistic.
had this been an actual representation of UPS the box and camera would not have survived the trip.
how did you have so much batery and storage
It's an obvious ad
Arriving at 10pm my butt
what happens if the package crosses the border?
Brought to you by, 'UPS Pictures'. I wish I could see what happened when a package arrived via UPS with a set of dual wheel tire tracks on the top, the Item was destroyed, and UPS said I did it. Or the time, a packaged arrived with a small rectangular hole in it, proven to be the blade of a fork lift, right through it, Or the time a metal cabinet was sent and arrived 3 inches shorter than it was sent, what did they do, park a tank on top of it? If you ship, take pictures of the item, take pictures of it wrapped, take pictures of it going in the box, take pictures of the packing material, take pictures of the completed package showing it is intact with no damage. Do all that, and the claim process proceeds much faster. Have you ever read the fine print on the 'contract' you fill out with a shipper? It says to use new boxes, items double boxed, with a minimum of 4 inches of packing material around all 6 sides of the inner box. Technically, they can just say tough luck if they destroy something and you did not do what the contract instructed for shipping. Amazon on the other hand, could put a crystal bowl in a box with no packing and for some reason it will arrive in great shape and at a fraction of the cost you can ship it at.
Not sponsor?
That's kinda scary..
Crazy Goat how....
This was kind of dumb. Its the equivalent of sticking a camera in a fast food restraunt kitchen, in a clear line of sight, hoping the employees will goof up...
Thats my box
Nice UPS commercial
Year 3000: there's no such thing as Out for delivery or shipped. It will just teleport to your door.
Hahaha yeah really that's what it seems like because several times when i was waiting for Amazon packages i stood right at my door impatiently waiting early in the morning then after i would close the door to go to make coffee or use the bathroom i would get a notification on my phone saying that the package is delivered and the crazy thing is that i never heard the mail man and the dog never barked either 😁
Let's be real!! That's not what really happens LOL! They usually toss, throw, kick, and crush the boxes. The workers also don't have a smile all the time. 😂😂😂
what was the fucking point if you were just going to follow the thing around
0:14 Wrong, mine was handled by Shopee
this is missing so much information. the tossing primarily
How could the gopro record everything if the battery usually goes down after a couple of hours? FAAAAAAAKE
I thought it's a robot and it will pass the butter. Or something.
1st: They pack the order
2nd: They take it to the post office.
3rd: They take it to the mail centre
4th: The truck goes to your house And / Or Post office :D
No i never wondered, because there nothing to wonder about.
What kind of UPS ad is this? Branding to make it seem like they deliver packages safely and on time? Decent try. At least actually deliver the package, use a 360-camera instead, and show the speed up version of the video.
wondering how my dhgate splash comes to me
ayo 😭
ayo
they dont xray right
I’d rather see usps air Shipping since it would use usps and probably FedEx
USPS doesn't have airplanes of their own they contract out their air services to private commercial airlines to do the shipping for them , they use a mixture of FedEx, and passenger airplanes to transport their stuff for them because it's cheaper to do instead of them have their own cargo planes and pilots. People that use airlines don't never know that they're on a flight with mail and online packages since it's stored in the belly of the plane.
This is not an accurate depiction of what the packages really go through and how they’re physically handled. As if they really handle pkgs with care😂. Would’ve been nice if it was an undercover pkg.
That acrylic box was highly unnecessary. Could of just used a normal box with a hole or window for the lens; cheaper & would bring less attention to itself for a more honest documentary. Speaking of honesty...
I call Thai taking considering a GoPro at best can only last about 10 hours (that's generous) and priority shipping takes at least 24 hours
The entire video is a commercial for UPS. Look for it on TV soon if it gets enough likes.
Anyone else searched this up?
I mean when most of the video is made of shots of the box itself moving through the system, as oppose to the view of the camera, you've got to question how much production really went into filming this. Also to state the obvious, a gopro cant film for 24 hours. Flawed video

Dam I never hit record
Wow what kind of batteries are they using in their GoPro? I'm lucky to get a couple hours of shooting time, yet they seem to get at least a days worth apparently.
It probably didn't, you can see multiple scenes not getting recorded from the GoPro, which probably means they probably did the video with UPS.
thanks i was whondering ab everything .
Lmao obviously the workers knew something was sketch when they see a camera in a clear box. Ofc they're gonna start acting on their best behavior.
Do it more craftily next time.
My ps5 preorder brought me here
this isnt sustainable at all and wont be around for too long
Click bait
Okay, several things. First, this is obviously faked, considering the unrealistic battery life, external shots, lack of shots from the gopro, smooth handling, and light packing in the delivery truck. This is an interesting concept, but it is lacking in execution. The video is clearly staged, and as much as I respect that it may have been a long process to get all the shots, I feel that is rather undermined when the video makes no mention of being staged. Furthermore, either WIRED is really trying to be friends with UPS, which is unlikely, or this video was sponsored, which I find highly likely. I do not know the specifics, but it seems like a bad move to not simply deem this as an ad, and it almost seems as if it is an insult to our intelligence, basically saying: "This is totally real and there's no way you could figure out otherwise by all the BS happening."
fake.
China's postal service is faster and much cheaper. 2 day shipping for 2$.
We have 2 day for free. Although my 2 day is supposed to take 4...
Pretty interesting !
