I had one of the original Clodbusters back in the '80s. Added a homemade quad oil filled shock set up in the front and duals in the rear, stronger motors, dual batteries and aluminun wheels. It was painted metallic black and some Goodwrench decals. That thing hauled ass and climbed up about anything.
I just got into the RC monster trucks and almost done building my SMT10. After that I am definitely going to pick this one up! Love the black and red. Looking forward to the upgrade series.
Yep they're a lot of fun to be an old school, car crushing, monster truck basher. However you do have to be careful when making upgrades for speed. Brushless systems can be installed but the gears (the counter gear mainly) will start skipping when hitting the throttle too hard. And oh yeah adding the on axle steering servo does help also. I'd say the Clodbuster is a good addition to any monster truck fan's collection.
This was used in an Australian McDonald’s commercial in the 90s. Where a kid straps a video camera to it and buys McDonalds from his house home alone style. It’s on youtube. Great commercial
The red looksbetter with the chrome wheels i have the oringal 1987 clod the steering wasnt great but it worked ok it will go anywhere i tested it alot of torque pulled me on a skate board amazing truck still is
Bought one of these probably right about the same time you got this one, I still need to finish up the paint, but I'm thinking about the JConcepts steering kits, I really want the 4 wheel steering using a 3 channel radio like I have on one of my Wheely Kings on this one too. It's going to be a stock chassis truck, but I'm thinking of adding oil filled shocks to this and the Lunchbox Black Edition I bought in May as well and plan on adding working lights to both as well.
Great trucks for what they are. Kids now days have too much demands. Looking at cars juming over houses, makes you not want a Clod. About the steering: Switch the steering rods the way they are lining up better to the steering mechanism on the gearboxes. That way you get better steering on the front wheels. A few diy videoes out there👌
I recently built one of these kits and I’ve been very disappointed with the steering setup. I was prepared to install 2 separate steering servos while using a FlySky GT5 6 channel transmitter for 4WS and crab crawl like a normal 4x4x4 Monster Truck RC. Sure, there’s aftermarket axle mounted steering “upgrades” available but these solutions require the removal of the front and rear red chassis bumpers. I wanted it to look stock and now I’m stuck with a truck that can’t drive properly. I was hoping to find another steering solution. One that doesn’t require the removal of those bumpers.
Dude I did a dual servo mid mount on my truck, but it would probably only work with an aluminum tub chassis. Repops are available on eBay though. Do I need to make a video?
Assy McGee I understand that there are plenty of mods available for this truck. My intention is/was to keep it stock, however it seems that if I’m planning to driving this thing, I’ll need to upgrade to an axle mounted steering setup at a minimum. I’ve seen some pretty nice aluminum chassis on eBay. I’m just disappointed that I cannot steer properly without upgrading things straight out of the box. I have a lot of Tamiya kits and they rarely need upgrading straight away. If I could mount a second steering servo inside the chassis without changing the look from the outside, I’d be ok with that. I tried a using a 35KG servo and longer servo horn but it’s still too unstable for my liking 😞. My Redcat Racing Ground Pounder is much more responsive than the this stock Clodbuster. It even came with an aluminum chassis and axle mounted steering setup right out of the box, although, the Ground Pounder only uses a single motor.
Nice! While you still have those Clod tires, would you mind doing a comparison between that and the JConcepts Golden Years, Renegades, Firestorms, etc. I've always wanted to see a proper tire comparison.
In terms of height for JConcepts tires, it goes Firestorms (tallest, 6.2”), Golden Years (about 6.1”), then JCT and Renegades are same overall height (5.8”). However, JCT are larger bodies with shallow treads, while Renegades are smaller body with a tall and deep cut tread. Compared to a stock Clod Tire, Firestorms and Golden Years are similar height but a little narrower. The others are noticeably shorter. There is a Trigger King Tech vídeo about tires but it was made before JCT and Golden Years existed.
I noticed when you landed after jumps, you landed on the rear wheels. Can you brake mid-air, to make it pitch forward to be level upon landing, or ...?
I’m putting one together now, It is the black version but it came with a white body I don’t know why, any good tips on painting it going to paint it black, should I primer first then paint it Black any info would appreciate
These are 2 vastly different RCs. The Clod Buster will act more like a monster truck from the 80s, while the SMT10 will be more like a 90-00s style monster truck.
so couple of questions, is there any oil shocks anyone can recommend and is there a servo weight that someone can recommend? ie. a 9kg or 15 kg servo ect, im considering getting one and doing some custom upgrades (on a budget of course, i get the feeling a super clod buster can be a king with the right upgrades)
I'm buildind mine now.But i want to use the sealed bearings instead of the plastic ones that it came with. What kind of raidio did you use, that was compatable with the esc that came with this truck? Also what kind of high torque servo(s) would you recommend?
Any radio will work. I'd recommend power hd 23kg servos based on experience, I'm actually buying ks-3518 servos for mine (with j concepts steering) but haven't used them before so I can't recommend them one way or the other yet.
This kit desperately needs to be updated. I just cant justify paying nearly $300.00 for a kit without bearings, anemic 540 motors and bad steering. When you look at what you get for similar price points at Traxxas and other RC kits....the clodbuster is a tough sell..
Tough sell ? Depends what the drivelines worth . I’ve got mine for 20+ years. Not as a jumping truck but as a work truck/ tractor running times . Trail rides last 3 miles easy . Right set up to the right application

I still have mine in my garage,…..
@@mikelitoris9610sell it to me big man
Love the Clod! It is the 1st RC I fell in love with...
Man this brings back memories!
I just got into the RC monster trucks and almost done building my SMT10. After that I am definitely going to pick this one up! Love the black and red. Looking forward to the upgrade series.

I remember a time back when R/C monster trucks looked just like that; a truck.

Love it and love how it jumps and bounces like a real monster truck.
Can't wait to build mine! Thanks for the action shots
All the trucks in Trigger King videos look like so much fun! I’d love to be a part of the hobby. Thanks for the review!
be apart of it. very fun
The red looksbetter with the chrome wheels i have the oringal 1987 clod the steering wasnt great but it worked ok it will go anywhere i tested it alot of torque pulled me on a skate board amazing truck still is
Thx for viewing mate👍👍 I might get one myself.

😁👍 It's a BEAUTY!
getting my first clod buster black edition woot had the bearings for months waiting on restock
I like this clod I should buy myself one some day.
J Concepts came out with a upgraded chassis they moved the survo an a few other things it looked nice
When I built mine I Tightened up the servo saver and my truck went fast and I competed in may at trigger king
I hope sccob
So cool i havnt seen a clod buster run in awhile 👍
I found one of these brand new in shrinkwrap at a swap meet for $300. I’m debating keeping it or selling it.
Sweet just got don't with mine.....magnificent rig

You can't mount a Servo on the axle without removing the bumpers.

Where did you get those ramps!?
keep it coming
Takes Me Back To 93' When My Buddy Used To Run Over My Kyosho Axis EX On Road Car With His Huge Clodbuster!!
Its awesome. To bad they couldn't have put the chevy bow tie in the grill and chevrolet on the rear.
Nice! While you still have those Clod tires, would you mind doing a comparison between that and the JConcepts Golden Years, Renegades, Firestorms, etc. I've always wanted to see a proper tire comparison.
Trigger King made a video about it.

Can you tell me the difference between the stock tires and proline decimators ???
Hi Great Vid! Just want to confirm that the stock esc can handle a 2s lipo?
The smoked chrome does not come through on screen....
I noticed when you landed after jumps, you landed on the rear wheels. Can you brake mid-air, to make it pitch forward to be level upon landing, or ...?
Braking in the does help in leveling the truck out, but with a slower retro truck like this, it is not quite as effective.
Hi are u going to race the hL150 i did not see it yet on your show
www.bigsquidrc.com/review-cen-racing-hl150-and-b50-solid-axle-monster-trucks/
I was also waiting to hear how it held up to racing after reading the review.
Which bodies did you use to crash in this video?
I Mean the red painted ones
hello I have a clodbuster but the control futaba no longer works, can you recommend a current one..
Such a cool truck. Where did you get those ramps?
Tahmeeyah Clod Buster!!!
Couple good Clod Buster videos on my channel. Pretty fun truck, and has taken a beating.
Where do you get crush cars
I’m putting one together now, It is the black version but it came with a white body I don’t know why, any good tips on painting it going to paint it black, should I primer first then paint it Black any info would appreciate
Primer would help when painting those hard plastic bodies. Lightly scuff the body first though. Make sure to use the proper paint for plastic as well.
I'm debating between buying this or the Axial SMT10, which one do you think is more for someone who wants the classic, old school monster jam feel.
These are 2 vastly different RCs. The Clod Buster will act more like a monster truck from the 80s, while the SMT10 will be more like a 90-00s style monster truck.
Where can I purchase one
Look at Google, or is it to difficult for you?

Do you like the new gray edition?
It looks good but there is really nothing else different!
I had one back in 1987 or 89 , I put a headlight kit in mine ,
I'm having trouble building my super clod buster
I dont like this black one & i more really like blue one. Its so cool.
Red parts of this shold be become black i think. It make this one so cool.
I'm buildind mine now.But i want to use the sealed bearings instead of the plastic ones that it came with. What kind of raidio did you use, that was compatable with the esc that came with this truck? Also what kind of high torque servo(s) would you recommend?
I won't answer this stupid question.
Any radio will work. I'd recommend power hd 23kg servos based on experience, I'm actually buying ks-3518 servos for mine (with j concepts steering) but haven't used them before so I can't recommend them one way or the other yet.

Any recommendations for a similar monster truck?
👍👍👏👏❤
Having it running on gas would be cooler look
Prefer Traxxas big foot
Cheaper too
And it's not scale so why should you buy one
The I
For that much money it should’ve came with good shocks. Pass for me.
