We watched it twice and loved it. Been a Mario fan since I was little and this gave me Super Mario Super Show vibes. Only problem I really had were Donkey Kong & Cranky Kongs voices but would still love a spin-off movie.
I’m checking it out in a couple hours, but from the trailer I wasn’t vibing with Rogen’s DK, and you now also mentioning that as one of your critiques kind of cements that. I’m sure it’ll be be enjoyable overall.

Well, I'm sure the kids and nostalgic fans will love this movie, and although it can still do incredible numbers, it seems that this will not be a candidate for "best animated film of the year", but they still have a chance to learn from what they failed and improve the next time.

A kids movie with a halfway descent plot is hard to come by. Pixar dreamworks to name a few. I’m still going To see it multiple times so I think it’ll be fine . Billion dollar film? maybe not lol

How was Chris Pratt? You said you don't like Charlie Day and Seth Rogen because it's just their regular voices, same issue for Pratt? I really dislike the choice for Mario and Luigi to no longer have Italian accents. My family is from Italy and my mom was heartbroken to see them strip that from the character. Even if people thought the original voices were too annoying for a 2 hour movie, they still could have had someone do more authentic Italian accents. Feels weird to me to cast big actors instead of better voice actors. Mario is a big enough IP to work without a big cast
Chris Pratt was better than Charlie and Seth in my opinion. I still would have preferred voice actors. But I didn’t think Pratt was as bad as I had feared he could have been.
