This is really similar to trapshooting! I don't know why I got onto baseball UA-cam but 🤷 Basically once you're in good habits with your stance and hold and stuff, it's real easy to distract yourself. You just gotta keep your eyes on that orange and the rest will come easier than you think
The part where you say “do damage” over and over again for for sure help. I’ve done that before but saying “I want it” or “give it me”. It’s definitely help me to think less in the box and on the field
something that helped me a lot was before my at bats, i would take a breath and vision what i would want to do to get on base that at bat. It’s basically like you already did the at bat now you just have to repeat what you thought of
Another thing I recommend is before the game, visualize yourself getting a hit. That’s how I got out of mine. I also was just out for 8 weeks with a fractured tibea and haven’t been able to play. My first game back I got 2 hits because I visualized myself doing that beforehand.
First couple at bats in the season, popped out a lot, some cheap hits, I wanted to swing for a homerun. Today I went 3-4 with 3 singles. All I thought in my head was “Basehit” and I kept repeating that over and over again.
Dude you should! It’s a blast! It can be slow at times but baseball is in its own league. That’s why most people tend to play faster sports like lacrosse and soccer, but you should try it and see what you think. The hype is real, when someone gets a hit rally going and the energy is there it can be one of the best experiences ever! As the level of play gets higher, the game gets faster.
@@TheOneHitWondersWhy might have to i only ever played basketball and football so the transition would be for sure different but i see my piers and people ik playing and i see the enjoyment and why it could be fun
Hey Coach Rac, Coach Testies here, thanks for advice always helpful especially with my own kid . Sometimes he's the hardest to correct because he's mine and I taught him. That's why I love baseball, you can always learn something from another! Peace man
So this helped me so much. Last year I was hitting terrible. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong so it just didn’t get fixed. I had no confidence at the plate and it sucked. This is year was more of the same and it also sucked. I recently saw this video and I started doing the saying the phrase "do damage" and now since then I have hit 2 triples 3 doubles and 4 singles in 9 at bats. I really needed this Rac thank you so much.
Just found this video. I wish I saw it a week earlier because I was in a horrible mental slump and just couldn’t do damage, but finally I was able to break it last weekend in a tournament. I got 2 doubles (one of them was walk off), 2 singles, a walk, and a strikeout. All I did was separated myself from everyone right before I got up at bat and just cleared my head. Sung one of my favorite songs in my head and just didn’t overthink it.
I actually used to do this when I played ball for our provincial national team. I never was in a slump but I’d always step into the box and think to myself “just a base hit” or “keep the line moving” usually worked out pretty good
I always liked this mookie wilson quote about being in a slump: “If I believe in dinosaurs, then somewhere, out there they be believing in me. And if they believe in me, then I can believe in me. Then I just bust out.”
I was in a slump for about a month or 2 and was crying at night just trying so hard to be better then it happen I been hitting better lately and hitting double triples and good hit singles into the gap or over the 2 basemen’s head. It sucked because I was with a new coach that was so happy to play with me this summer then I was in a slump and then I got out of it and feel so proud I strikeout still and ground out and pop out but don’t let that get in my way ❤
I don't know why but whenever I played baseball I had my own phrase I always said to myself "control, your breathing. Alt, your grip, and delete the ball." It always worked for getting runs
You should do a video on teaching how to slap!(slapping is for lefties. It’s when you run and get momentum and then hit. So you have less way to run.) I also am a leftie!
Agreed. Go into the box and feel and believe like you want to hit the ball and you will. Don’t go in with any hesitation or worry, you gotta clear that.
My coaches and teammates always told me to just barrel it. Don’t worry about how hard you hit it or where it goes, just make solid contact. All you need sometimes is a soft liner to get it back
this is great advice i don’t play base ball but i do play tennis and tennis is very mental i got into my own head in the middle of a match and started lose ong so i played a few points with my non dominate hand and repeated this is fun in my head then after that few points i started winning again
I always say “hit the ball” and normally whenever I say it I always end up hitting it. That’s just how I get myself to hit it by watching the ball while saying that
as a baseball player and a golfer for my school team i’m in a slump with hitting so i decided to go out for a round of golf and the next practice my hitting improved. Idk what it was but practicing a different style of swinging helped me take the mental thoight of my baseball swing
I’m going to try this. I’m in a bad slump and can’t hit right now. Next weekend I’m going to use these tips and work on it. I’ll let you know if it worked.
before the video in my head I was like "oh just do something weird and then go back to your normal thing" and then he said to use your non-dominant swing and I was like "I KNEW IT" but yeah that works outside of baseball too, just break away from the monotony of things and try something new every once in a while to get yourself going
Man I wish I heard this in January. I had open high school gyms for baseball and my hitting this year was s*ht. My 8th grade batting average and obp was WAY better than my freshman year averages. I hit the ball alright but it almost never ended in a hit. Unlike last year
Just got out of my slump. It was def mechanical. I’m a lefty hitter but I throw righty. But I just had my hand very very low and my feet very very close together. So when I would load my hand wouldn’t go up high enough for a good scap load so I stretched my feet out more and brought my hands up more and made it easier to scap load and I hit a double in my game!
Ngl I have the craziest baseball story ever so in 6-8 grade I played school baseball like there was 5 teams and 8 graders were captains and in seventh grade idk how idk when but it’s insane everything is mental every game my teacher was all time pitcher he pitched slow underhand BUT IN 7 GRADE PLAYOFFS I COULDNT HIT ANYTHING 17 ATBATS WITH NO HITS fast forward and in 8 th grade I had 56 home runs all year (it’s not like a real baseball home run but still) ITS ALL MENTAL

ive been in a mental slump for the past 2 or 3 months, so thanks coach rac hopefully this help
That switch side tips works so well in so many sports you realize how good you are in your dominant side

Loved this guy in "Get him to the Greek" didnt know he played baseball!
I am in a slump and this really helps
To the do “damage” part.. Great and easy advice and it works! I had a coach in HS tell me something similar to this. “If it’s in there, hit it!”
Yea that’s much safer than going out and picking up a slump buster at the bar or somewhere!
“It’s just baseball” calms me down after a bad swing
