A truly brilliant win by Carlsen! He created order out of a pretty chaotic and incredibly complicated position to snag the victory. I feel sorry for anyone on the other side of a chess board playing against him.

Sveschnikov against Carlsen after his WC match is suicidal.

I guess Van Foreest underestimated that Carlsen did not only prepare specific lines but also seems to have a deep understanding of the positions and plans. The time spent was maybe a good indicator of that. And it puts Caruanas achievements at the championship into perspective, who generally pushed Carlsen a bit with white.

He did seem to have a good position to be fair, Carlsen is just really good at chess

@@nilsp9426 I heard interview with Van Foreest after the game and he said that Magnus told him that he had exactly this line prepared for the match against Caruana. But he messed up and played 14. a5 instead of f4.

Nice Video as always. Interesting to see if now as Carlsen plays it with success the Sveschnikov will be adapted by the other super stars.

20.Qb6 feels rather natural, but gives black, as shown, good counterplay. However, the unharmonious and time-consuming 24. Nd1 instead of coordinating the pieces with 24.Rc1 is really quite a lemon.

Why did Van Foreest try to test Carlsen in this particular line when he was tested several times by the world's number 2 and thus has more thorough understanding of the position?

    • @darioabbece3948

Pawn Sacrifice maybe he hoped carlsen would take the Bd7-Bf5 draw hahaah

@@darioabbece3948 then he should've offered a draw after Nd5 :D that's the difference between a decent GM and the best one!

I doubt Carlsen has studied this line since the match. White had a good, maybe very good position but his nerves gave way against the world champion.

After what I have heard he had a 30 moved planed as yesterday... but it did not go as planed :P

hi GM King, just a silly sidenote, I know how much you appreciate languages, actually one pronounces it Van Foreest with the accent on „reest“ with a long e.

Very interesting game, would have been a better test if the h5 was taken and Carlsen had to show compensation and win the game. Thanks for the analysis.

I think Jorden walked into the lion's den, for sure. One possibility for improvement: Instead of his 18 Bd4 which does not really lead to much except the trade of his bishop, he might try an exchange sac, in the line 18 Bxh5 Ne4 19 Kb1!? so that now on 19... Nd3 20 Rxd3!? It's double-edged but White's remaining N might prove effective later in the game, and Whtie should be able to snatch that second pawn.

A strange and confused game by Van Foreest. He played a brave / foolhardy opening into known preparation. Also why play an attacking opening then back down before he needed to? It's like he wanted to go for a win that he didn't believe he could get.

  • @HiReeZin
    @HiReeZin 5 років тому +1

This line looks very risky to play for the weaker player. It's about everything black could hope: complicated, non-forcing, black king is safe... Imho a bad choice from van Foreest.

Well at least the kid was brave to go into this line with Carlsen, he could of easily gone for a more drawish opening but he wanted a fight. Give him credit for that at least.

To go into a variation that the World Champion has just studied for a World Championship match shows a lack of chess intelligence.

not brave Daniel... naive and suicidal to say the least.
Carlsen is a universal player but we all agree the opening is not his strong point. Well, to choose this line?? Is to choose as opening that FOR SURE Carlsen is super prepared.
    Silly choice
