Your coverage is great Jerry. Both the live stream and these followup videos. Really appreciate you working all day and staying up late to get all this content together and published.

Me too, and as always Jerry gave us deeper analysis than anyone else. The "why not this move?" explanations are why I always tune in here. Magnus saw Qh6 and said he was "worried". If Magnus was white I think we chalk this up as a double-you lol.

This tournament is so exciting! I am watching multiple commentators channels and must complement you, Jerry, for the being the best for non-experts like me in teaching us the strategies and tactics involved. Keep up the great work!
Enjoy the rest day, Jerry! You deserve it as much as the players. ;) Great analysis and commentary, as always. It's amazing how much work goes into developing a small advantage, while the tiniest of inaccuracies renders a potential win all but impossible. Margin of error is just so slim to gain an edge, and yet another hurdle altogether to convert it into a win. I find the quality of the chess we're seeing to be compelling even without a decisive victory yet.
Nice analysis. Next time I will watch this analysis instead of staying up late to watch live chess. The clock times are really helpful as it gives perspective on time spent behind the scene.
@@deridivisstar884 I think Jack's point was the prep. 5 minutes vs 50 in the first 19 moves means Caruana likely analyzed this opening with a supercomputer, whereas Carlson likely had to come up with his replies on the fly. Regardless, it's crazy how accurate these two play when they do get out of prep.
@@deridivisstar884 thats a great way to discredit Caruana putting Carlsen in a helluva position that was only saved by caruana screwing up by his own accord, and not even from what Carlsen did

Ayushman I agree with you! If Fabi does not know how to play a position like the one where he should have played Qh5 it is hard to see that he should be WC. Basically what Magnus did was almost to take down the computer.
People who are saying "Magnus beat the computer" are really disrespecting Caruana. Caruana built up a big advantage in the middlegame--not the opening, the middlegame--so giving credit to the computer doesn't really do justice to Fabiano's achievement.
Thanks jerry. Like your analysis. Hope you'll make more videos in the future. If possible some Kasparov-Karpov as well in the world championship match. Thanks.
Οnce again, a big thanks for the coverage Jerry. Before the match started, i was sure that Magnus will dominate, but so far Caruana seems a tough nut to break. Thanx, Jerry! I simply can't recall m-/any World Championship matches with Sicillians as a "primary response" against e4! I think Vishy went for one as a go-to or "had-to" when trying to defend his title against Magnum Carlsen, but all in all: Sicillians are meant to create havoc and chaos. You don't play them compared to i.e. QGD, which we have seen time and time again since Lasker, Capa, Euwe and all those big guns followed by the Soviet army of Super WC's. It is SOOOO hard to convert an advantage against great and tenacious defenders like Karjakin, Giri, Kramnik, not to mention Mickey Adams and Leko. And of course: Players like Naka and So as well as Vishy and others: You may THINK you have "this one in the bag" ... and yet again: OOOPS! GREAT advantage, but nope: Just another 0,5 since you suddenly had to defend against something coming out of nowhere. In short: Caruana is the best bet this planet can offer as a challenger at the moment. He is an "all round" player and he came well prepared for the match, but ... That Carlsen in this game shows that he is prepared to play sharp and immensely complicated tactical games as well as his normal grinding endgame-stuff just tells me, that this world just ISN'T ready for a new World Champion yet! Caruana has NOT shown anything yet that proves worthy of the title: Great preparation, standing up to Carlsen's end game: So far, so good ... but what DO you ACTUALLY have for us, Mr. Caruana??! Thank you Gerry. I was waiting for your review. I could not stand Peter Svidler saying 300 times “computer says...” on his video. I like your videos way more because you explain your logic instead of “computer says”
Prochopmeister exactly, you don’t know what I watched. It wasn’t the 6 hours stream which by the way they do have a computer for analysis. But we are digressing... the point here is that Gerry explains very well. When Peter says “computer says” he is basically saying “you should believe it and don’t ask questions”.
Caruana is one of the most terrifying players I've ever seen! He's getting closer and closer to beating Carlsen! It's going to be amazing to see how far this goes. :D
Thanks for a lot of hard work Jerry! I really hope Caruana doesn't win this championship. Even though he is so strong he relies on prep too much. Here he was even up 50 minutes on time and he wasted it and bottled quite substantial advantage. And it's same story in each game, up on time during prep, then suddenly loosing on time. Carlsen is much more natural, hope he finds enough motivation to win in classical time. Everyone is saying he will wipe the floor with Caruana in rapid, but I can't help but worry there will be huge upset if it goes to rapid...
Regarding the analysis of 24. h3 (~ 20:00 ...): There's only one better move than 24. h3 and it's not easy to see if 24. Qh5 is too risky or not, considering Caruana is a pawn down!
I had the engine running while the game was on and, yeah, h5 looks to be winning -- at least the engine didn't seem to be able to do anything to prevent the evaluation from creeping ever higher in White's favour with subsequent moves. When it's top recommendation was Qe8, giving up the g-pawn immediately, you know it's bad.
24. Qh5 seems so obvious to me, it baffles me to no end why it wasn't played. EDIT: I didn’t intend to demean Fabi’s performance here. Obviously I’ll never be close to as good he is, and honestly, who am I to judge? I just found it interesting that after all of that calculation, an aggressive move like Qh5 wasn’t played.
It "felt" like the right move to me as well, though of course I can't see lines like the GMs or even Jerry. However, I can easily imagine myself talking myself out of the move that "feels" right when playing against the best player in the world. How can you really trust your instinct? It's out the window; you have to assume Carlsen sees everything you see and more.
Your entire life preparing for this moment against perhaps the best of all time after an hour of calculations and deep thought. One inaccuracy throughout the entire game is damn impressive. Granted that move seemed obvious to you, but i guarantee under that pressure you'd make a lot more mistakes than that and they'd be more than obvious to nearly everyone.
Well then apparently you are really the world number 2, bad luck on not making it to the candidates. For myself, I think the opposite. If I'm white at that point of the game, it seems to me my queens side advantages, the strength of my passed d pawn and the weakness of blacks king are permanent. Blacks only chance is the counterplay on the kings side, stop that and I can exploit his weaknesses at my leisure. Now I'm no GM, so I would probably never figure out if h3 even stops blacks counterplay, but if I was sure, I'd play h3. If I didn't play h3, I'd play Nc4, continuing the theme. If I didn't play that, I might play Re1, building up the pressure I have been playing for. Qh5 looks speculative to me, and a bit naive. You absolutely have to prove that it's a clear win to play it, and that's a lot of moves in the future. So I think it's only the obvious move if you are following the engine.
@@kenanbanks2984 it's not about feeling. What basically happened is Caruana looked at the move, and didn't take enough time to analyze the following moves.... Meaning that he blew it.... Big time.
