In all honesty I’m a CANELO fan. Canelo is no doubt probably the best boxer out right now where no one can beat him at his weight division. Benavidez is not a wall that Canelo has to climb over, is the other way around. Benavidez is the challenger here, and Canelo is his test to see how good of a fighter he is. Good fight though if it happens.

I wouldn’t rate even Lara as elite. He was just a good boxer with slick movement. Canelo struggled even against Lara. Cotto and Mosley were pretty good but we know Mosley was already a very old man at 40 and Cotto was almost washed up.

Against Bivol, he was outclassed. Hand injuries are painful as hell. He wouldn’t be punching shoulders and arms of his hand were broken. Canelo clearly didn’t have any serious hand injury. He just got outboxed convincingly.
Against Floyd, even if he hadn’t been weight drained, he would have gotten the same result. That’s because he didn’t lose the fight because of lack of power, he lost it because of lack of skills and huge gap in skills between him and Floyd

Callum Smith fought in a weak division with a weak resume. Saunders and Plant also had weak resumes and none of the 3 ever attempted to unify and were not very active. As boxing fans become more experienced and knowledgeable of the sport and its nuances Mayweather will be exposed. Please understand that he had not only his father but two uncles with probably 30 plus years experience among themselves.... I'm certain they weary of certain Floyd Mayweather adversaries at certain points in each of his adversaries careers. Couple the "timing" and Mayweather's great work ethic, with the timing and "conditions" he demanded to fight, and you have a formula for "lowest" risk possible. I think most people would rather a fighter push themselves a bit over their limit and come up short than never take that sort of risk. The win/loss record matters less than the fights.
Mayweather is known world over as the King of Duck so many good fights he never went after and cherry picked over the hill former champions. He left so many fights desired on the table. He also waited out fighters from their prime before taking the fight. He was tactical about his career, but Canelo has done more in terms of competition.The man fights more so for legacy than image and purse. Mayweather was certainly a great defensive fighter of his time, but he never pushed himself and went after the best fights which is why he stayed undefeated. Canelo even fought fighters that Mayweather past up in his career. Some of the greatest fighters of all time had lost a fight or 2.
When he stops fighting scripted bouts against no hopers, old men, smaller weight class opponents and mans up and fights Benavides, THEN I will be interested.
