I will never compare one of Laura Marling's albums to another. I admire them all for different reasons. Her style changes a lot but so does life. How I see her albums: a journey, a person, a life. You don't have to read her interviews to hear that! She puts everything she needs to into her songs. I heard some lyrics in this video, "I think I could get away saying only half what I say". And if she's talking about all of her lyrics in all of her songs, I do believe this is true! But one thing I want to tell her is that I LIKE hearing EVERYTHING she wants to say. I will be a lifelong Laura Marling fan, wherever life takes her or how much her style continues to change. Wonderful, Laura! I really wish you would read this but I'm sure someone as wise as you doesn't read Internet comments. Thank you for your music.
That's right, I don't really like the last album. A Creature... and I speak because I can are my favorite ones, but the new song (False Hope) sounds cool.
I rarely post messages on UA-cam but I must admit the release of this upcoming album is even more important to me than "Once I was an Eagle." I missed her 2012 Salt Lake City performance because I was out of town but I am eager to see a live performance soon. I'm a guy but there is something about Laura's voice that just connects for me. I hope someday she is recognized as one of the great lyricists of her/our time. She has something Adele and Florence cannot touch, and Birdy (another young English vocalist I do like) cannot claim any common ground either. Laura just has something magical in her musical creativity.
Darrell Hewitt Bit of an odd post trying to compare Adele/Florence/Birdy to Laura. They are all different and talented but in different ways. Moreover, Birdy is still a teenager and could develop in a number of different ways.
She's not even 25 and "Short Movie" is going to be her 5th album! I can't think of another singer-songwriter as productive as her, and she's also always great in what she does. Defenitely one of my favourite artists.
her bio sounds like she found religion for some reason after mingling with LAers, which is kinda pathetic cus she used to be such an antisocial autistic loner rebellious anti folk mad girl so tsundere and ice queen ish laughing at god now what the fuck is this?
L Y R I L L You need to calm down ok. I see nothing about religion and everything about growing (up) in that bio. Maybe she matured a bit (she's like 22 for fuck's sake) and found what makes her happy, and saw that being " antisocial autistic loner rebellious anti folk mad girl so tsundere and ice queen ish laughing at god" doesn't automatically make you cool or edgy, something that you obviously haven't realized. Jesus.
pandora191 cool or edgy? ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH? of course you see nothing about religion, you probably don't see anything about religion in all her tracks LMFAO YOU SEE YOU PEOPLE ARE THE EXACT PROBLEM , you fucking social beings with your passive aggresiveness towards anything you deem childish maybe just stop trying to act like you know anything preaching shit to people, and maybe just maybe there will be less antisocial people out there cus they are fed up with people like you
It's been hard to accept this album when it first came out because I was too much in love with "Once I was an Eagle" to enjoy any change of course in her music. But now that some years have passed and I've grown from that specific time in my life, I can totally see what a masterpiece this is.
Once I was an Eagle was such a leap, such an improvement on previous albums, that it would seem impossible to equal it / better it. This sounds very promising!
I love this woman so much!!! Sometimes I hear little flecks of Laurie Anderson in her. She is outstanding. Can't wait for this album and praying for an accompanying tour.
I love this song and the video hits so hard. I sang this hanging out with a friend of mine last year and he's gone now. Thank you for this gorgeous piece of art Laura.
this is the first time i am listening to laura marling and i am in love with her already. her voice is so touching and beautiful. wish i could meet her.
Best news I've heard all year! I got worried she would stop music after she said she was considering it in a bunch of interviews so happy she's back with a new style aswell!
Fabulous, both the song and the video ...... I wondered a little when I heard she was 'going electric' but all doubts are now gone. I can't wait for the album.
Oh yes Laura.... ashamed I missed this 6 years ago... excellent album....love the mix of songs... folky Beck Sea Change meets Joni M, meets Fairport Convention, meets Laura Marling being Laura Marling....and the sound is crisp as fuck! Ordering this beauty....🥳😎
You want a song to bring you to tears ???.... Try a beautiful song called A PROPER SORT OF GARDENER by JUNE TABOR - you'll need a box of Kleenex... gorgeous song... by the way I love Laura Marling and can't wait to buy this new release.... By the way don't confuse my recommended song with THE GARDENER by JUNE TABOR - Two totally different songs ... o.k.
My gosh, this is so pretty just as Marling knows how to do música! I was wondering when she will be puttin out new songs, and BAnG! Here it is! All her albums are great! No doubt this new will be too!
Like many others Laura, you have made my day with the news of a new album - love the new heavier sound as others have said because it's different from the last - every album gets better! What has happened to all the songs post Eagle though ( eg David; bleed me dry etc) - it would be good to release these as well!
Not going to lie, I thought your last album was probably your worse. A bit worried you had lost the touch I love BUT this song is brilliant! And I can not wait to hear the rest of the album!
I thought it was her best, by some margin too - and I love the other three. That said, she's changed her style quite a bit so maybe it's just not the same style you like any more. Of course, this album should be another change so maybe she'll win you back.
The beginning of the video looked a lot like the Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? music video (which isn't a bad thing!) I'm looking forward to seeing where this new album is going to take me. I've loved all the previous albums for different reasons. It's fun growing up with an amazing musician a year or two younger than yourself :)
Does anyone know of a version of this song that is censored? I know one exists for the radio because I've heard it before. I get to choose the playlists at my job but the songs must be clean and I've always wanted to add this song to the mix. Would appreciate a link if anyone knows a site or video I can rip it from.
The Joni Mitchell influence is fairly clear in the new album. This is not surprising. Laura Marling has for a long time paid tribute to Joni Mitchell as her inspiration, along with Neil Young. This production recalls Joni's style, lyrics, musical development and approach to her craft in her heyday - 1970s and 80s. Were Joni Mitchell today in her prime, her music might sound not unlike this.
marc21091 I would not disagree with you but now Laura has gone "electric" I can hear echoes of early Polly Harvey Circa dry (1992). saw PJ on that tour and Laura is now around the age Polly was at that time.
Yes yes yes! I'm like the only gay boy in the world who could dance to her music like some trashy pop singer. Laura eat cereal with me and let's gossip about boys. I love you always.
At the end there, is she saying, "It's a short fucking movie, man? I know. I'm not tryinna' take your soul?" That's what I'm hearing Love it, whatever she's saying!
Yes - in a bar in Mount Shasta she met a skinny hippy in his late 60's and invited him to her gig. He played flute, lived in the forest and would shake his head and sigh *It's a short f***ing movie man" in response to anything and everything. Laura adopted this as her motto - and took the inspiration for her album.
I will never compare one of Laura Marling's albums to another. I admire them all for different reasons. Her style changes a lot but so does life. How I see her albums: a journey, a person, a life. except the melodies are going way way downhill and i ain't even sure about the lyrics going equally uphill
L Y R I L L is your mother a pigeon
I'm just glad she moved past naming her albums different first person sentences...
Melle Beemster i'm not and once i was an eagle was a major letdown in every sense possible including the name
That's right, I don't really like the last album. A Creature... and I speak because I can are my favorite ones, but the new song (False Hope) sounds cool.

Darrell Hewitt I agree wholeheartedly. But why the "but" in "I'm a guy but there is something about Laura's voice that just connects for me"?
I think she is not one of, she is THE most powerful songwriter of our time.
She's not even 25 and "Short Movie" is going to be her 5th album! I can't think of another singer-songwriter as productive as her, and she's also always great in what she does. Defenitely one of my favourite artists.
god, this brings tears to my eyes... I couldn't ask for a better news: a fucking laura marling new record! a good reason to keep on living!
her bio sounds like she found religion for some reason after mingling with LAers, which is kinda pathetic cus she used to be such an antisocial autistic loner rebellious anti folk mad girl so tsundere and ice queen ish laughing at god now what the fuck is this?

L Y R I L L as I sad, you should probably calm down. maybe see someone.
It's been hard to accept this album when it first came out because I was too much in love with "Once I was an Eagle" to enjoy any change of course in her music. But now that some years have passed and I've grown from that specific time in my life, I can totally see what a masterpiece this is.
Welcome back to my eardrums/heart/soul, Ms. Marling.
Im sorry. 🖤 I feel comforted and sad by Lauras music too
I love finding new songs for upcoming albums unexpectedly. Especially when its from truly original musicians like Laura Marling.
Respect.
A beautiful masterpiece.
You were such a big part of my life growing up, Laura. Can't wait for the new album :)
this is the first time i am listening to laura marling and i am in love with her already. her voice is so touching and beautiful. wish i could meet her.
Best news I've heard all year! I got worried she would stop music after she said she was considering it in a bunch of interviews so happy she's back with a new style aswell!
Great track! Love the atmospherics...
She is the best original folk musician since Joni. Nuff.
Fabulous, both the song and the video ...... I wondered a little when I heard she was 'going electric' but all doubts are now gone. I can't wait for the album.
great video and song. 3:20 and on to the end recalls the album art for Nina Nastasia's Run to Ruin.
Such a perfect song. I like the animation here too.
Beautiful and sensational. I folking love this woman and her music
More music from the best songwriter of our generation. This made my day!

My spirit glows when basking under your voice...

Astonishingly beautiful, as always Laura. Can't wait to listen to the whole thing and give my thoughts.
Masterful. Vid reminds me of True Grit. Roger Deakins cinematography after the snakebite. Listened to this twenty times already. Day. Made.
WOW! This song instantly brings me to tears. The only other song to do that is The Magnificence of living wild & free by Noah Clouds. x x x
You're so right. Both are amazing songs.
its ok baby.
You want a song to bring you to tears ???.... Try a beautiful song called A PROPER SORT OF GARDENER by JUNE TABOR - you'll need a box of Kleenex... gorgeous song... by the way I love Laura Marling and can't wait to buy this new release.... Incredible. As always.

According to the lyrics from the liner notes, the line I always thought was, "but I watercolor dry" is actually "bottled water, called a drought".

Let's celebrate this animation! Inspiring stuff. (and amazing song, too. Double threat, double reward.)
Genuinely in love.
love from Indonesia!
Not going to lie, I thought your last album was probably your worse. A bit worried you had lost the touch I love BUT this song is brilliant! And I can not wait to hear the rest of the album!
I think its one of the bests of the year. And I am not alone: www.metacritic.com/music/once-i-was-an-eagle/laura-marling

Just in time for summer. :D
Running Fucking horse
Yes yes yes! I'm like the only gay boy in the world who could dance to her music like some trashy pop singer. Laura eat cereal with me and let's gossip about boys. I love you always.
You're not alone!
Definitely not alone.
not alone!
So not alone!
No
"They know that I love you, but they'll never know why..."
охренительно!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Portugal The Man's Sleep Forever
***** indeed. did you notice the intro melody is the same? also, you have the greatest profile icon. Im lolling inside
KEEP UP THE WORK!! AMAZING STUFF!! HOPE TO SHAKE YOUR HAND ONE DAY AS A MUSICIAN!!=o)
This was already a great album. Love it.. but this new "Semper Femina" pushes her forward. SHe's a great music artist. Love her.
At the end there, is she saying,
"It's a short fucking movie, man? I know. I'm not tryinna' take your soul?"
That's what I'm hearing
Love it, whatever she's saying!

Lowdenjim omg that's so crazy. How cool!
Lowdenjim That is awesome.
I think the second part might be "I won't try to take it slow" but not 100% sure.
its true though . they all know . but they will never ever know why .
Never have I heard a bad song from Marling.
Amazing video! use the artist again!
