So glad I found this! I am the daughter of Sonny Woods! 🥰
Trying to find all the info on his life. I only met him once in my life.
“Thank you for acknowledging Hank Ballard and The Midnighters,”An Awesome Legendary R&B Group from the 1950s & 60s. My favorite songs by H.B. and the midnighters are, “Get it, and Sexy Ways.”
Hank and the fellas,DOMINATED FEDERAL/KING SINGLE HANDED RIP HANK
I USED TO PLAY ALL OF THEIR SONGS WHEN MY PARENTS WERE ALIVE EVERY WEEKEND AT THEIR PARTIES THE OLD PEOPLE LOVED ME
Your 50’s coverage of the groups are great!!!
Great information on the groups ❤❤❤❤
I love this video series! Keep it up!
"Finger Popping Time" "Let's Go Let's Go Let's Go" "The Hoocy Coo" "The Twist" "Annie Had A Baby" are among my favorite songs
We seem to have created the most popular genres of music in America yet don't receive the credit nor payment.

Excellent!! Thank you. You made my day.
Thanks for this story. Never heard of The Midnighters. I was visiting my parents while viewing your channel and asked my parents had they. My father started singing, "Twist Again" and "Annie Get Your Yo-Yo." I fell out laughing.😂 I will be sharing your stories with them now. Happy to hear about this groups induction into the various Hall of Fames.👏🏾 Thanks again.
Yes, would love seeing a video on Hank Ballard.
Did you mean "Let's Twist Again"? That was by Chubby Checker.

I was speaking of the version mentioned in the video called "The Twist." I see I put 'again' behind it because of me being familiar with that version and not knowing of the original version by Hank Ballard and The Midnighters until now.
Thanks so much for this video, I played and was inspired by the trumpet player Pat Paterson in the South and Vince Vincent in the North, I met him while playing with the Jimmy Tieg orch. in Atlanta Georgia in 1966 at a club called The Pink Pussy Cat, backing up all MoTown groups, he dug Dizzy, I'm sure he probably isn't still with us as Pat at that time was 38 years old and I was only 21, Now I have a better understanding of Hank Ballard❤
Hank Ballard real pioneer no doubt you are correct
Good video, I know several of their songs 😀
My favorite Midnighters song and I was in elementary school. "There's a thrill up on the hill, let's go, let's go, let's go. Then in 1972, Hank did a single called "From the love side".
You’ve done it again! And yes a video please. Favorite of course is “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go”. Thank you so much for ALL of your efforts!
Great video on The Midnighters! I enjoyed watching this and I learned everything about this group. They were a great group throughout the 50's. I love some of their hits like The original Twist, Finger Poppin Time, Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go, Annie Had a Baby and many others. I would love to see you do a video on Hank Ballard. Keep up the good work!
My favorite song is Finger popping time. ( Hey now. Hey now Hey now) from 1960
I’m from ny but was raised in ga I remember those songs when I was about 7yrs old when the stars came to Columbus they would stay at the dew drop inn all the women would get their hair done and go see them at the flamingo inn on Friday night memories
So of course do one for Hank Ballard. I heard how he was upset that they didn't play his twist song because they didn't have crossover success as Chubby Checker. He had an image he had more airplay so that's why it was more successful. Alot of people don't get credit for their original songs. It's always the 2nd or 3rd person after
Hearing this and learning about The Midnightners helped me further understand why Chubby Checkers version of The Twist wasn't put into the Fall of Fame. Although his version was more popular, he wasn't the first to record it or write it.
Hank Ballard song "Work with Me Annie" Inspired the Etta James song Work with me Henry. Also, Hank Ballard and James Brown were good friends and he sang with him and both left to go to Polydor. Hank Also owns the rights to the Midnighters as Hank Ballard and The Midnighters. Few songs I loved by Hank was the late 60s song How You Gonna Get Respect and The Love Slide, and Hey There Sexy Lady
I think you meant to say "Roll With Me Henry" (Etta James).
Actually, I think we both have the song wrong it's Actually The Waliflower (Dance with Me Henry) with Johnny Pete or Johnny Moore or even Johnny Otis (I forgot which Johnny lol) even though when listening to it I don't think Dance is said. I mean it's been awhile 😊
James Brown featured Hank Ballard on his funky people label
The only song I know is Kansas City and didn’t know who sang it. Great info as always
Finger Poppin Time
White listed too blk n too strong an funky for them. Salute my people fwrd yung ins keep digging in that soul mine blkluv n blkpwr
I have a lot of 78’s and 45’s by the Royals/Midnighters on Federal Gold Tops
Hank and James Brown became cool from King Records over to Polydor..
Let's go Let's go Let's go, work with me Annie Annie had a baby
I know who Jackie Robison is, but I have never heard of this group. They definitely can sing, keep up the good work and giving these forgotten Artists their flowers!!
I would have to say "Teardrops On Your Letter". I still have it. "The Twist" is on the other side. I hope he got a lot of writer's royalties for that! Chubby Checker's version was embarrassing. Everything about Chubby Checker was embarrassing. What saved it was The Dreamlovers singing in the background. The black stations wouldn't even play it, they only played the original by Hank Ballard.
Pat had just got off the road with Hank Ballard...
The masters of hymns & masters musicians on the throne of God were the ones that it was lucifer , Satan, then passed to Orpheus, Paganini, Bethooven, to the black jazz & blues musicians like Robert Johnson that's why it was called the devils music .
My favorite song always been Kansas City
