    I think it is one of those rare trades that when you both won because you are both happy with the value the object brings to your life. Thanks for sharing!

    I’d happily adopt that unit, I’m a big fan of Panasonic.

    Got one here in Canada. My dad bought it in the mid to late 60s and it was our first "component" stereo. I inherited it eventually (my sisters had no interest in old radios) and it still sounds great.

    Thanks for sharing this Ronnie. I really like both those radios but I think if I had to choose, I’d go with the Arvin. Lovely little gem there and totally see why you would trade. I did think “Blimey! Are they really the right control knobs… that bright red in the 40’s?!” So I did some digging and there were some amazing Colors and designs. The Arvin 532 Catalin Radio in Maroon had just as striking yellow set of knobs like these red ones. Fascinating and I’ll be reading up more on those now thanks to your video. Great stuff! Regards

      Yes they made some really bright, interesting designs on those radios believe it or not. Even back in the 20's and 30's. Funky looking even.

    Thanks Ron! Always a pleasure to share your Amateur Repair time! :D
    Personally, I think he definitely got the better trade. Though, that you feel you got the better trade, means your certainly making the right trade (and both win, which is a nice rarity).
    Totally have to justify why I think he got the better trade though, lol. :
    It appears the radio you're trading is in more of it's original (unmodified) state, which I personally place more value upon; It feels like the restoration done, was such, that it drastically altered the radio's original aged state (which may have brought it looking closer to how it would have done when it was made perhaps, but then why not buy a modern reproduction if that's whats desired).
    So I guess, this makes it clear my own self state. I like things 'as they came' and honest (meaning, if it's aged, seeing its age). Though in a self double standard, it only applies to stuff that does age well (wood, metal, hard wearing plastics) and not to stuff which disintegrates into dust or sludge after some years (then I think that things which are a joy to own, mostly, are also of a quality which persists and defies time).

    That's a very nice 👍 radio 📻 receiver. I'd certainly try to find it a home 🏡. It would look great with it's own period correct stereo system. Great 2025!! Your friend, Jeff!!

    The 25B8GT is actually 2 tubes in one, so the radio is actually a 4 tube radio. one could consider the 50L6 a 1.5 tubes, sort of but definitly a electrically a 4 tube radio. VERY clever electrical design... 🙂

    best thing is to open up the speakers and look on the speaker inside for its impedance-measuring DC resistance of a speaker lets you know if a speaker is open or not -dc resistance can be close to a speaker impedance but the 16 ohm is the speakers AC resistance -remember DC its resistance and AC is impedance

    • @AmateurRepairTime
      @AmateurRepairTime  14 днів тому

      surely you know, though, that it's very close and a convenient way to check. That time when you measure 8ohms resistance, but it's really 16ohms impedance will never get here.
      By the way, it's this kind of stuff that really makes people not like technically minded people. Yes, technically resistance checking it is different, but functionally it gives you very similar information since none of us have an impedance meter.
      I'll make sure to go on a rant about that, the next time I do speakers on anything.

    The cable at 16 ohm speakers looks like it is a cable with a central core and shielding , I think there was an RCA attached at some point.

  • @dlschgo
    @dlschgo 16 днів тому +3

    He can add an 8 ohm resistor on the speaker/wire to create 16 ohms resistance, but I never found it to matter at reasonable volumes.

    Wow an Arvin 402 in trade for that now working pretty good 1970s Panasonic Goodwill survivor. You got the better end
    of the trade Ronnie, hands down. One nice looking Arvin model 402 sold on fleabay for $300 last October! It's a "city"
    radio circuit inside and he got it aligned so it can pick up lots of stations as a city radio. Thumbs up for your friends work. 👍But I'm sure he is happy with the trade, win win.

    This would have to have been made before 1965 because everything made after that was calibrated in Mhz and Khz instead of MC and KC.

    The early stereos have become collectable among a younger crowd mostly. Some of it is the retro look along with fascination for things that came along just before they did or when they were young. Vintage hi-end tuners like marantz, pioneer and techniques go for a lot of money but some say that fad is just now starting to die out? I really don't know. I do like the baby tube radio though. I guess we do tend to go for things that came just before us. To each his own as you say.
    The sealed speakers are very cool and not common. Never seen any like those. They were fairly popular back in the 70's/80's. My 80's techniques tuner/amp has a bass eq button made specifically for running sealed air suspension speakers. You don't see many of those around anymore except as recording monitors. Radio shack sold a boatload of minimus 7's back in the day. I'd sure love to be able to get those again. Sealed speakers seem to be quicker - that's about the only way I can describe them. Less bass but maybe better bass? Another good one here. Cheers. 👍

    AFC-automatic frequency control. It helps keep the station tuned in.
    That power source might be a plug for an auxiliary device, 8-track, record player, etc
    It’s funny, I have that same Fluke meter that I take as the travel meter! It should be a Fluke 8016B, if it’s the same one. Keep em alive, Ronnie. I’m working on a Motorola VT-71 TV right now.
