it’s so weird how many people in the comments think he grew up rich, i think this is one of the most common misconceptions about donald glover
Right?! Someone even compared him to Drake lol
@@geekboutit They really think Danny Glover is his dad, lmao.
I went to school with a lot of rich white kids, heard the "you speak so well" well shit my whole life. When they would drop me off at home, in their beemers and range rovers, they would always be quietly shocked about having to drive me home, on the "poor" side of town. It's pretty crazy how people just ASSUME shit, based on their own narrow ass perspective.
They probably all heard because of the internet, not realizing that was just the plot line of a stage play😂
Am I crazy, doesn’t he talk about his dad being wealthy on one of his albums?
Some of y’all took Because The Internet to heart. Lol. He didn’t grow up rich. Those lines were about a character he was playing. He was middle class growing up.
Middle class is rich to the lower class.
@@somedude4805Working Middle Class Means When Your Parents Get Laid Off, You're Poor Like Anyone Else
Literally learning this now tbh

Just like Drake.

“My main focus is making sure it’s good quality. And I don’t think I can do that much longer before it just becomes Pop.”
A lot of artists settle on losing their genres and just making Pop music and I’m glad he wants to get out before that happens. Love Childish Gambino. ❤
Atlanta was a great show.
His album "Awaken my love", was great
Nah his mixtape Royalty went Crazy.
@@KickBenjamine what song was on it?
That wasn’t a hip-hop album though
I really love artists like Childish, Ye, Dot and Tyler. They're so creative
Based comment, the alternative scene is way better than commercial gangsta/trap.
Dot Da Genius fans in here? Oh shii
@@AdovianDones Pretty sure he's talking about Kendrick..
@@PixaXCVI Yes that's right, I'm talking about Kendrick
@@AdovianDones Dot Da Genius got his love too for being an awesome producer for Kid Cudi, but we talkin bout Kendrick Lamar here.
I think it’s because he was a black kid who was well off and didn’t hide it. And he was a multitalented. People can’t accept someone who does more than one thing. They want you to be in one box so they know where to put you. He should be the blueprint for greatness. Actor, comedian, rapper, writer/show-runner.
i think it was because that one time he interviewed chief keef and didnt wear deodorant
He grew up super poor lol
yeah if you listen to any early childish, or even his early comedy, you’d know he did not grow up rich lmfao. his parents ran like a foster care
@@junyaiwase😂😂😂
Why is it that people think he grew up rich? Cause he doesn't mirror what you would expect of someone who grew up in a poor environment?
Good job on the video bro. Donald is a living legend who often doesn't get his flowers, man's a genius.
Nooo
I knew this guy is blowing up after I saw him in Community series and then all of sudden I find out he does really quality music (my fav. track is 3005)
I love that song! And he was fun in Community!
Always geeked out when one of my favorites dropped, this channel is hella underated
It’s weird that Redbone was his hit. I’ve been a Childish Gambino fan since he started and I didn’t care for Redbone at all. Like, have ya heard his other tracks. So many bangers and dope flows.
Red bone is one of those songs that’s straight up timeless. Honestly when I first heard it I thought it was a 90s deep cut I never heard before
its because it showed all his peers that hes got more talent than they all think, and that its not even a competition or anything. its music its expressing yourself, with that song its like the first time people started to accept him expressing himself. People hate Different, and they despise talent, if it outshines their own.
@@oogskskfnI’m trying to make it a Christmas song in my home. Awaken My Love album in general feels that way to me lol
The day the album came out I was convinced Me and Your Mama would take the cake for the best song, but I guess it's not club hit
I think redbone is one of his most experimental tracks at least for the time it came out in his discography, it really didn’t sound like anything he did before
Nah he's still going to be making music & working on other projects. He said this next upcoming album is the end of the Childish Gambino CHARACTER. He's mentioned in multiple interviews how the childish gambino character is coming to an end, how he views CG as representation of his youth, but hes not in his youth anymore. Hes matured and grown to a new stage in his life, so he doesnt need to be held back by his youthful immature character anymore. Childish Gambino was his "coming of age" story arc for all intents & purposes. Him finding his place, & cementing that place in the hip hop industry and just Hollywood in general
1:10 you scared me with this transition, thought my macbook froze lmao
He's ONE OF the most talented people of our time man
amazing at everything he does
I'll miss Childish Gambino man, what he managed to do with the character is amazing imo
He doesn't get his flower but he's a living legend man the 🐐
Atlanta is one of the greatest shows ever made btw
Man your vids always lead me to new perspectives , love em fr fr
extremely love your videos, as a musician myself i obsessively study your content man keep it up bro! ❤
He's so dope! I love when people are unapologetically themselves, Gambino your artistry is appreciated🤎✨️
The industry hated them because they feared him. Dude was already a household name before he was 30 and has more achievements than most could ever dream of having.
I put him and Tyler in the same box. Their just now getting their flowers because “Hip-hop” is either trap beats or therapy sessions nowadays.
Tyler the Creator is a weirdo 😂.
@@mateaukalua4426 damn bro, you woke up from under rock.
Tyler has been getting flowers since wolf let's stop it
@@Synical02Tyler himself doesn’t see it that way.
He is an triple threat n nobody could stop him bcuz he ain’t care!! Respect the accomplishments 🎉🎉🎉
Man I love videos like this that show how insanely hard it is to make magic like this
Redbone was probably the last mainstream song I really loved I didn't know about all this lore behind it....
This is america was wayy bigger than that, and he had like 2 other songs after redbone😂
@@fresh7878 I think you misunderstood what I was saying
childish gambino is my favorite rapper
Bro most people in the comments don’t be paying attention to nothing lmao homeboy grew up broke as hell and explained as such in his autobiographical music but often writes from perspectives that aren’t his (end of camp story, the entirety of BTI, BSATNW, etc.). People saying he’s rich straight up are not paying attention yall really got no media literacy lmao
Literacy period‼️
He was born Donald McKinley Glover at Edwards Air Force Base, California, and was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His mother, Beverly (Smith), ran a daycare center, and his father, Donald Glover, is a retired postal worker. He is not, despite rumors, related to actor Danny Glover.
It's sad that the BET Awards didn't want him to perform the song this is america yet along give him an award for it and Jamie Foxx Literally Had Too Make The Crowd Sing It but he WON 4 GRAMMYS For It , I was disappointed and shocked at the same time
He said he was retiring in 2018 too....
😭😭 people thought bro stank
honestly at a point he definitely did it on purpose to troll charlamagne back. CTG would not shut the fuck up about it. also he paid him absolutely no respect. it was beyond clowning for jokes. he even most recently tried to get 21 Savage to talk shit about Gambino, but he wouldnt take the bait.
Charlamagne is a petty bitch.
Bringing that up to bring someone down reeks (no pun intended) of jealousy.
Well… he has twists sometimes they do that
Saw dude perform live on his latest tour in Tampa 2 weeks ago. Dude left me with my jaw on the floor.
Modern day Renaissance man....I personally think he is the most creative Artist Alive‼️
I always appreciate when someone doesn't care at all if CTG doesn't like them. Badge of honor.
0:30 JESUS CHRIST😭😭😭😭😭
I just wish he would drop some hard tracks like freeks and geeks and bonfire again
We've really got to let go of this notion that there has to be a deep reason not to like someone's art. Art is the epitome of subjectivity. There doesnt have to be some deep reason for other people not liking something that you enjoy. I lnew absolutely nothing about his life, never watched him on tv, and just didnt like his rapping voice. Then he started singing, and it sounded better toe than his rapping. It was that simple for me, and i feel like its that simple for most people, more often than not
A lot of his early music was fantastic and super ahead of its time. I'd say he's made stuff AML and onwards that has actually at times been more corny than his old stuff (but still pretty good). People are just uncomfortable with rap that doesn't meet the corporate standard for 'cool'.
Do you really think 'The Last' is corny or downright bad? Or We Ain't Them? Home? Outside? LES? Break? Silk Pillow? Backpackers? Eat Your Vegetables? Grind? I'm So Focused? Easy? Glory?
There's so much corny music out there by rappers whose real talent is conforming to whatever the standards for cool are at that moment, I've always found that shit incredibly uncool, Gambino has been unapologetically himself in hip hop for nearly 20 years now, giving a way more interesting perspective than most of his contemporaries have at any point during that time period. And doing it all just for the love of it since no matter how excellent the work he produces is the bar is always set higher for him than people who make dogshit that doesn't make people think too hard.
It's not his fault audiences are shallow and insecure and would rather hear drake tell them how cool he is so they can feel like that's them, than be confronted with their own vulnerability by someone honest, innovative and subversive - y'know, the shit that true hip hop is supposed to be about?
the ending of this video with the word 'pop'... well done
HE is VERY DOPE and AWESOME He is HIS OWN PERSON his MUSIC is HONESTLY MEANINGFUL and he Talks About honest thing's he Does What Makes him HAPPY and What Works for me You Can Tell
He Remains and Stays His Self Regardless OF WHO Likes it and Understands it He Does
He’s a genius
A co worker of mine put me on to him years ago, I’ve been a fan ever since.
I’d love a CG x BLK ODYSSY collab
Lmao I’m offended at the first two lines in the vid as a day one fan
true artist through and through
Y’all gotta do your research, the goat didn’t grow up with a silver spoon. Comment section lookin’ wild. Also great video by the way, love your voice.
who clicked cuz they love COMMUNITY???
I highly admire Donald Glover; the musician, the writer, the actor, the person. He’s one of the few who can do it all with his own style. He’s a true artist.
Check out CG’s cover of the Chris Gaines song, Lost In You. So good.
Hahahaha, not you sounding like Gambino when the video started hahahaha lmao I thought its him doing his own doccie hahahah
F it I accept him one of my favorite artist music , acting and comedy 👊🏼🔥
Excellent video
nahhhh, Culdesac, ep, and camp are great
Hip-hop hates anything that isn’t the status quo. Most brainwashed fan base and industry there ever was. Take risks kids, do something different.
Camp is as influential as 808’s Man On The Moon and the like. As convention defying as it gets yet his credit remains to be seen.
I always hear his older music get hate, but he actually had bars. Check out his song "Bonfire." Even better, there's even a lyric video. Watch that one so you can really enjoy all the wordplay and appreciate the lyrics. The beat does sound a little dated these days, but lyrically, he's on point in that one.
Why you hating on Gambino's Scent man🤣🤣🤣
purposeful body odor is a problem though
"offensive" in more ways than one
That I told you so what so goated 5:12
It’s not the end for bro Donald glover is still making music
whats the 100 million view thing?
Its because he isnt fake enough to put on the machismo bullshit that hip hop thrives on... I havent watch the video yet, did i nail it LUL
the end of Childish Gambino and hopefully the beginning of Donald Glover as a director. I know he's directed before but I mean more frequently.
Title & Video Content is very clickbaity
Donal glover is genius to pop heads
I’m going to work with Donald Glover on many projects.
is there a place where i can listen to your beats?
Nah i listened to him , features . He was and is and amazing artist.
I think it is because his name is Donald and it’s kind of a dorky name. Not to be superficial but he has a lot to overcome.
maybe not donald, but Don G could be a rapper.. just throw on some bandanas like chris brown
I had someone tell me Childish Gambino was her there favorite artist back in 2015
Never say this is his last album. He will probably rename/rebrand himself next as "Midlife Gambino".
Midlife Gambino 😂
All due respect, this video does not explain why he is not respected
First 🔥
that's tuff!
But does he still pong a bit?
"I want to be as big as I possibly can be." Then bathe ninja.😂
u dont needa wash your WHOLE ass but you gotta wash your ass HOLE
He has a very right brain dominate artistic brain. Rappers at least the majority are very plain and simple, not stupid, but not original. They are sheep following the pack.
Gambino is a mastermind. I see a lot of myself in him. He did fetishize Asian women a lot. Besides that though he's a solid performer.
I prefer 2012 Gambino music
Some nerds like rap, tbh the style of rap he goes for could be good if he told a story, but as any nerd knows, metaphors are cheap, we are not lil wayne, hes not a human being. If donald could go for some tribe called quest style storytelling he would have something to go on. How are you gonna do derrick comedy and community and then expect people to take you seriously without earning it. I am a nerd but I still had to put work in the game to get any respect for my music.
I sense the south african accent in your voice
He did not come In with bad music.
Why does he feel the need to be accepted by hip hop? Or does he even?
The only white rapper who’s allowed to say the n-word
Black male in short shorts, I’m double suspect
It's funny how I'm kinda fan of childish Gambino and DGlover since community but not really like that red bone song 🤷♂️
troy and abed in the mooooorrrrning
Nah as a long time Donald and Gambino fan he's always thought he was better than everyone else. And if you didn't like his work he'd chalk it up to you just didn't understand it.
I’m beyond excited for it if he stays with this sound similar to his old shit.
I know you might've used it as a throwaway--but to call his early music 'corny' is the biggest load of garbage. Some of his unreleased stuff is insanely good--Camp had some bangers, same with Royalty. Do not get it twisted, his early stuff was awesome.
@@keithdemolder1074 it’s okay to love corny music brother.. 90% of CAMP was very whack & cringe
@@geekboutit Heartbeat, Les and Bonfire, all absolute heaters--there's a reason they have half a billion listens. All the shine, fire fly, you see me also really fun.
@@keithdemolder1074 heartbeat and bonfire are definitely not ‘heaters’.. they are okay songs at best
@@geekboutit lol alright big dawg
Um maybe having Childish in hour name does not help.
They, who is they? lol 😂 they, did not hate him. Trust me
The "truth" is sad, but its basically just that stupid people will never understand true art.
respect childish
You take the disrespect out of this video title, making nuclear grade assumptions like that, when you know it's the dead opposite. Click farming.
Hip hop doesnt respect him for 3 reasons.
1. Hes not a great rapper ;let aloneCONSISTENT with his music; when he drops his fans overrate his actual abilities, and shows that his only album that was memorable for longer than a quarter was AML; he thinks hes better than he actually is.
2. Hes went on record to admit he has a distaste almost phobia like for black women; so imagine asking for respect from the black/ hip hop culture when you cannot respect one of its most important pieces 🙂.
3.Hes better at film, and production.
He has a good r&b bag sure; but hes just better at other things which shows because people love community, and Atlanta.
He's not a great rapper like Cole and Kendrick. But I'd still say he's good, I think the problem is his lines can be corny, which is understandable. But I respect that he at least made an effort with his skill. But you're right, he is far better at other things.
Alicia keys is really beautiful
This title is cap
🐐
don't think it helped that he started off sounding like a pretty wack Lil Wayne copy. I love some of his music, but his rapping isn't his strong side and definitely wasn't when he started
He doesn’t use deodorant? 🤨
I think not having Charlamaine like you is a compliment. He sucks. Lol.
Nope
Cause they sell outs
I mean.........I just don't like his rapping. I liked his endeavors in other genres of music.

Childish Gambinos first album was perfect. His problem is a public who wants twerking and gold teeth and violence.
