Spiderhands review of "That Melody" by Doc Jazz

Happy to share Spiderhands’ review-on-video of our new music video “That Melody”!
Spiderhands gets carried away especially when talking about Mella Barnes (“obviously an incredible singer!”), hehe … I’m especially happy with that, because it was one of my objectives to showcase her talents, which is why I gave her a more prominent role than just backing vocalist, more like a “co-lead” … and she really is an incredible singer just like Spiderhands said. Do check out the parts where he raves about her contribution to this song!

He is also very impressed with the drumming by Wim de Vries (“that drummer was phenomenal”). So true! I’ve checked out Wim de Vries and he is just incredible. That’s world-class drumming for ya, for real. Check him out on www.wimdevries.com and you will be amazed.
Spiderhands has good ears and good musical knowledge, as he picks up on Eddie Conard’s percussion … “phenomenal percussionist”. Well-heard, Spiderhands! Eddie is a legend in the world of music on percussion, has played and recorded with giants like Sting, Pointer Sisters, Gino Vanelli, Al Jarreau and his percussion skills are on over 3000 recordings … ! So proud to have Eddie on my recording, and it’s not the first time, as he did all the percussion on my album ‘Front Door Key’. Spiderhands dwells on the contribution of Hans Sligter on guitar “very funky with those wak-wak sounds in the background”, on the bass of Joost Zoeteman (watch how he pronounces his name towards the end, it’s hilarious!) “”ooh that bass is so smooth and silky” and on the call-and-answer keyboard runs of Joel IsonKeys.
Hans is one of my closest friends and a truly phenomenal musician, who is most known for his work with the Dutch band The LSB Experience, which isn’t only popular in the Netherlands but has a considerable following in the United States as well, where they tour regularly. He also has his own production company “”Labalaba Sound & Art” which you can find on www.labalaba-s... . Hans also teaches guitar and sound production (incredible guitarist and singer).
Joel Ison is a good friend whom I have shared the stage with several times. He is an amazing pianist from the United Kingdom, currently residing in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has a rich musical background playing with acts like Breach, ShiftK3Y, Lifford Shillingford, Korey Riker, Paul Fishman (Re-Flex), Botown, Duane Flames and Chantal Santos. Joost Zoeteman is my new musical friend, whom I met through this project. I’m glad I met him, he is a very nice guy, but that’s not all there is to it. What this guy can do on a guitar … it’s too crazy for words. He is the archetypal jazz-guitarist who applies knowledge, skill and that miraculous thing which is in-the-moment-inspiration to invent incredible melodic lines on the spot, and he does it with flair and natural flow. He did the bass on this song, and he did a truly great job. Check out his further work on www.joostzoete...
And what does Spiderhands say about Doc Jazz? “Fantastic musician”, “competent vocalist” and some other nice stuff! That’s very nice to hear, of course. I like how he acknowledges how much work went into this project, and also how he embraces and lauds the team spirit of the endeavor.
He loves the music video for its colorful presentation, and because it shows the musicians having fun at what they do. That was absolutely what I wanted to show with it, so - if I go by his words - mission accomplished!
Some people may have trouble with his Kiwi accent, so I went and added subtitles.
