Kilo coins are my preferred silver products. Due to the relative low premium and the efficiency in storage. Also I really like the chunky and heavy feel they have. I have a couple of kilo coins and the most of them are kookaburra's. Really enjoy the quality and level of detail from the Perth mint.
I know exactly what you mean as far as picking up a heavy piece of silver or gold. I pour a lot of 100 ounce silver bars and when you hold one in your hand it feels so much heavier than it looks. It's awesome realizing just how dense stardust is.
Love the kilo coins, how they have lower tax compared to poured bars (Germany...), how they're nice to look at and how you can flip them by selling an old one to a collector and get a new kilo coin and a whole bunch of 1 oz right away. I kinda wish you could get "tubes" or rather cylindrical master boxes for the kilo coins.
I have 1, 10 and kilo coins. The kilos make a big statement but I think the 10oz is a better size shows the details off nicely without the less intricate areas looking bland. They can also be harder to sell you need to keep your exit strategy in mind .
Just a few comparisons in AUD using pricing from perth mint's website (AU:1821.86, AG:22.15). 1KG Koala coin is $776.18, with a 9% premium of $64.06. You're paying $24.14 per troy oz, or $1.99 over spot. 1KG cast bar is $745.18, with a 4.64% premium of $33.06. You're paying $23.18 per troy oz, or $1.03 over spot. 32x 1oz Kangaroo coins at $25.87 each is $827.84, with a 16.79% premium of $119.04. You're paying $3.72 over spot.
Frankly, I have never seen the fascination in such large coins. For me, silver in such volumes is quite adequate in ingot or bar form without paying the premium for the designs and in the end, I’ll be converting my silver (except for my 1 oz. collector coins) into gold when the ratio is more favorable.
The premium for a lot of these coins is not that much more than for a bar at this weight. I'd rather buy Perth Mint kilo coins than generic bars. Probably easier to sell too since backed by a sovereign government
By the way,I'm a 1-3oz. Woman depending on the mint we've got a new up and comer Intagio Mint. Even their 1oz looks like it's a 3D coin I buy all their collections,I'm about to be buying from you too, plus I collect Treasure from shipwrecks of the 16-1700's. All pure silver,I've got quite a bit from The Atocha,a 1700, ship carrying 8 tons of gold and silver n part of its up for sale on eBay,it's all been verified I just wish I had $50,000+ tax & shipping & insurance! Silver Lining Casting,Cheri
I'd go with the Kookaburra.I really like the 2014 version. I think both 2019 Kooks and Koalas are very good and I'm trying to save up enough to get both in a kilo. The 10 ounce 2019 Kook is exquisite.
If I HAD to pick one, it would be the Kook, the Koala looks creepy. But for kilo silver, I'll stick with bars. And I'll vote for the Germania "coin". I ended up buying one between last week's vote and now but I still would like to hear your review.
I paid $600 for a 2011 1-kilo Koala, and I’m extremely happy with this purchase- it’s a big, BEAUTIFUL coin, and it’s already worth almost $300 more than I paid for it two years ago..
Any stack deserves to have at least one silver Kilo coin. My pick was the Lunar Series kilo Tiger 2012 with the capsule and wooden box, traded it for 2 x 20 oz tubes of Philharmonics, nice collectible value.
mathmatically, one can prove that 1kg coin has less surface area that the equivalent of 1kg of 1oz coins, thus you lose less silver to tarnish due to less surface area.
A kilo coin is reall something special to hold. The disadvatage is thta they are not easy to sell. I like the Koala most because of the frosted background. For next week the Gibraltar coin please.
You bring up how the design is just lines and angles. Yes, that is true, but that's true for all art. I personally draw caricatures, so I tend to accentuate certain features on a person's face with accentuated lines.
I have been buying these, because they are cheaper than kilo bars, here in Norway (no VAT). And, the premium is higher on 32 1ozt coins together. But, I think, even the 1 Ozt coins, are to large to collect, but 'stacking' is probably as good with old spoons and broken jewelry! But, old coins are more about what is interesting, and less about saving money..
I really like the 2 oz Lunar coins, I think those has a nice size (about 50 mm diameter, I think, and a nice thickness) - those just feels good in hand :-)
I bought a 2020 1 kilo Koala. It's a nice coin but I don't think I'll be buying a lot of them. I just like to hold it and look at it but know practically it's better to buy 1 or 10 oz coins since it'll probably be easier to sell.
They are beautiful pieces and you can see a lot of details on the coins my favorite is the Koala, but for me they are too big I wouldn't but coins over 10 oz. For next week I vote for the Germania.
I had no problem selling 1kg, coins. I bought a box of ten when they cost me £370 each, when the price reached £500+ I sold them on eBay. I surcharge 4% if people wanted to pay via PayPal and had no problem with that as I preferred to hand deliver. They were cloudy koalas, not that stunning and I do have a couple of 10oz mirror finish, the kooks parent and chick and the spread wings kook with moon back drop. Check out the amazing detail of the moon face features. I do prefer 10oz, particularly the thinner but greater surface area of the 10oz QBs and the Valiant. ALSO the 10oz make great celebration gifts. For 25th anniversary. 2x10oz is good for his and hers, they get to keep one each if they dont reach the next mill stone. LOL..... Still chuckling.
I just bought the Kilo Kookaburra from my brother, he paid $650 a while back, I paid him $1,000, good deal for him and me. If he gets some money again I will sell it back to him for $1300
I like the frosting on the koala, looks really good on a kilo coin. I have one kilo coin myself, it's the 2015 Mickey mouse coin from the New Zealand mint, love that peace😍 I will vote again for the Germania coin!!
Hello pal, I’m relatively new to purchasing bullion bars/coins. I understand any purchase made is at my own discretion but would you be able to recommend a trusted seller or website to purchase bullion. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
I vote 100 gram bar for next week IFF. Both kilo coins are nice but I prefer the Koala. 1 Kilo Silver coins harder to liquidate but selling close to spot price maybe worth buying.
Between the two I agree with you BYB, you hv lost the smaller branch on the Kookaboro & I love the Koala. But I'll still take a one ounce over a Kilo, that's what I love the most you get More detail, I'm even a fan of antiquing, on larger n detailed silver, but the one I'd buy if I were into that size n had the room would be the Koala Kilo. The one for the drawing I'd like to have the first one,as I collect coat of arms type coins & even found my families crest. Thank You for all the wonderful videos, my design will be rolling your way after Monday and this bad weather passes. Take Care, Your Loyal Watcher & Love Your Channel," Hi Mrs BYB, Have a Safe One, Silver Linings & Castings, *Cheri Henderson* Your Texas Silver Cowgirl .........
I like the koala one. Personally, I probably wouldn't get one because the price that I would pay for one could go to a smaller sized gold coin. Voting for the germania.
There must be some collector value On Kilo COINS...I don't see much premium or the Beauty..How much over spot will someone pay out there ?? The Beauty is in the eye of beholder...I imagine not much over spot..I dont see it....
Stacking when spot price is low, mintage is low, and it is appealing, like the Kook is. Koala NOT ! Doubtful of the Piggy. Dog did not go crazy, but sales have been stagnant 2017-18.

They are pretty cool for sure - these are low premium too. Storage efficiency is important but not always on many people's minds!
@@BackyardBullion ouhh boy this is really on my mind but patience is the game keep staking cool video anyways

They Kilo's certainly do make a statement! The 10 oz is best in my opinion - I also agree that 1kg coins are a lot harder to sell.
Get 2 and you don’t need to buy any kettle bell for your gf

they are awesome but usually the premiums are crazy. nice post my friend 🔥🐉
Lately been cheap. 😊
Of course on your sponsers site it’s way high like everything else at SD BULLION.

They're great if you like stacking plates.

I don’t care really how they look like. The only reason to buy them is that you do not have to pay VAT (Outside GB)
You lucky man... ;)
Love both coins, the Kookaburra is always my favorite. The shine is way more impressive!!! Plus I love the bird itself!!!
I'd go with the Kookaburra.I really like the 2014 version. I think both 2019 Kooks and Koalas are very good and I'm trying to save up enough to get both in a kilo. The 10 ounce 2019 Kook is exquisite.

I know what you mean, the kook is a little odd isn't he! I also agree I will stick with bars for kilos.

Well, you have a great point there. Look at a jackson pollock - just a bunch of paint in lines on a canvas.

To be they are a good balance, higher premium than bars but lower premium than 1oz coins. You get the beauty of a coin with a modest discount on spot.
Good morning sir what is a price of 2018 koala and 2019 kangaroo 2kg silver coin to day in australia
I really like the 2 oz Lunar coins, I think those has a nice size (about 50 mm diameter, I think, and a nice thickness) - those just feels good in hand :-)

Have the same 2014 kilo Kookaburra! Love it!
No doubts they are pretty impressive coins!
They are neat but just too big for my liking. Lets have a look at the colored piece please.

I like the frosting too, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the vote!
Ice hockey puk for giants ! Love them all !
My first impression of the mat finished Koalas was negative, so I am biased toward the Kooks. The bar is still more interesting to me than the coins.

I really want one. DO you recommend it? In this day and age?
if it is in your budget to hold for a long time and you can get one at a decent price, I say go for it!
Backyard Bullion thank you for always inspiring me.
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
Did we establish if the 1 Kg coins are any good or not as per title? not sure after all the waffling
If you cannot make up your own mind then why bother asking the waffler. But hey, at least you watched my video
There must be some collector value

I love kilo coins. Prefer the kook out of the two, but both are great. I vote for the 100g bar for next week.
Oh, I DEFINATELY love the first,I collect the coats of arms.
I own a 2014 Kook so I guess they're alright. I want to see the Gibraltar please.
Beautiful coins!! Don't have any yet!!
