I know, right? Poor guy's been so alone and dark for hundreds of years....I only feel sympathy towards him :(

However bad he might be, Rumple has always let Belle go, always given her every opportunity to leave him (and I know I might be exaggerating a little). And she keeps coming back to him.
So come hell or high water, I hope that this relationship works out.

When rumple tells belle that they were happy and in love in the alternate reality I thought she was going to say “ but it wasn’t real” like what Isaac told him. But she didn’t. She already was happy and in love. Idk why but this pulls at my heart. Even though the book wasn’t real she doesn’t deny that the their feelings in it were real. At his lowest moment she could have told him the alternate book wasn’t real but she didn’t deny it. Her feelings for him as the light one were just as real as when he was the dark one. He just found it easier to believe when he was dressed up as a hero.it means the alternate reality is a real possibility that they get their happy ending as heroes with a son. This is confirmed by the ending of s6.

I love this scene and I really hope that Rumple finds that arc. They can't let him be in a coma for more than a few episodes, they've got to bring him back somehow.

Poor rumple
See my problem here is that Belle says "I knew what I was getting into" except she was the one that banished him over the town line without at least allowing an explanation. That said this is really sweet. And honestly Rumbelle did have several of these sweet scenes in the later seasons but the writers always felt the need to screw rumple over and make him the bad guy and make Belle holier than thou. Like I love this scene and the acting is top notch here but it pisses me off that the writers felt the need to keep messing with their relationship (and with Rumple in general)
Regina had her backslide in Series 2 but she redeemed herself and no more backslides in later seasons they didn't make her screw up everything at least once a season. Emma and Killian didn't have their relationship go through this kind of sh*t even though Killian was also a villain. HELL Zelena the psychopathic RAPIST got more of a permenant redemption than Rumple so to speak. And yes I know he's apparently a full good guy in series 7 but he redeemed himself via DYING in series 3A so WHY should he get made into the mustache twirling villain who can never stay on the straight path when other's who did argueably equal or worse things for originally lesser reasons get a full on redemption? Why was he less deserving of a more permanent redemption the first time round than Regina, Hook, and Zelena? And why does what started out as one of the sweetest and most complex relationships on the show suddenly get turned hot and cold toxic? I mean the answer is lazy writing but it still pisses me off.
They had plenty of villains without needing to make Rumple one again. HELL original Rumple wasn't even a total villain he was more morally grey. He was pretty much on his own side but he fiercelly protected those he loves he sometimes went about it in a darker way. It didn't make him evil and Belle post Hamburger date pretty much accepted that. Up until series 4 when they started screwing him over.
He was never evil but he was always fearful. Which caused him to be addicted to power, the thing he knows can protect him.
The reason why he gets the worst of it is cuz he was unfortunately severed from his actual traits. We learn that in season 6, through all the other insanity in it LOL but that's why it seems almost impossible for him to not backslide. It became easier for him once he learned that, and understood that he actually had the capability
@Bakuru still seems like very lazy and frustrating writing and character development to me. I really got sick of rumple good rumple bad. The show was going down hill after 3B in so many ways. I ducked out halfway through series 5. And it doesn't make them turning rumbelle into a toxic mess that gets fixed with a band aid ok. BS season 6 excuse or not its still shoddy writing
@madeleine5561 oh yeah completely agree with that 🤣 I love the whole show don't get me wrong but I very much understand the craziness of the writing that it turned into since season 5. And honestly the biggest reason why is because they didn't handle Dark Swan correctly. The actual plot points mostly made sense (of course Emma could handle it better than anyone else, she literally has lightness embedded in her) but they didn't really flesh out her journey properly, and that's cuz they put Camelot in it 🤦🏾♂️🤣 by far the worst addition to the show
Oh the Rumbelle feels! I hope they can make up and be happy together when Rumple can learn to live without the curse, and his power addiction next season. Here's the thing that's so frustrating to me about this scene though, even here when Rumple's about to die it feels like he is still to afraid to admit the to the whole truth, and is only admitting to half of it.
Here's my theory:
I think that Rumple has known that his heart was almost too dark for him to control by slowing it down with magic from the beginning of 4A, but was still too much of a coward to let Belle break the curse because of his power addiction. I feel like that's why he went after the hat, and tried to break the ties to the dagger back in 4A. He wanted to try and hold on to both Belle, and still keep his power from the curse in control without having to sacrifice his humanity. I get it, the curse has always been a chronic addiction for Rumple, and it's only gotten worse over the past three centuries, but it's time to start letting those closest to him in. Hopefully, we'll get more of the Rumple from season 3A next season, the one who was capable of making a sincere effort to fight the darkness and be brave by making the right decision when he really wanted to. The last thing that I want is for Rumple to get a free card for his redemption next season though with his apparently now blank slate heart. That feels like a sell-out sort of way to redeem a character, and something that would totally ruin Rumple's original personality anyway and genuine character development. He made bad decisions not just because of the curse's influences, but because he has always been too much of a coward to let his chronic magic addiction go, and just be powerless again with his true love for Belle. That's why he couldn't believe in it. I think Rumple needs to struggle and get caught relapsing in the act of trying to take the curse back from Emma before he can go through with it in his desperation by someone like Belle or Henry next season to truly have that wake up call and genuine and satisfying shot at true redemption.
Schoolgirl325 I think you have a good point here. But I don't think it is all just cowardice and power adiction, in his case.
I think he has a couple of oher proplems, that are underneath it, and, make it even more complicated. Looking at what he was before he became the dark one, taking into acount his whole background, you can't help noticing that he has certain issues. That guy never had much selfesteam. And he only begins to believe in his abilitys after he becomes the dark one. But he obviously does not see the worth of his own gifts. I mean, even in the background outlined by seasone one alone you could tell he was alays clever and intelligent to begin with for example. And he does not think of himself as having much worth to anyone, or even beeing loveable in the first place. His father, Mila, Cora.... There where man people who firmly planted this perception. Thats a learned behaviour pattern. And even 3A has that in, when he tells that vision of Bell in time she will come to see what he truly is...
And there's another thing. For him loosing the curse means back to squere one, so to speak. Look at him before the curse. There iss a guy that's steadily being humiliated by the people about him with little or no chance to escape or change it, often enough. And even in 3B and 4 we have that too. Powerless agains Zelena, who has the dagger, and there's that scene with Hook about The Corocodile having on teeth at the moment.
That's his lookout. The moment he's the Dark One no more, that's what he has to look forward to go back to.
Always recieving that kind of treatment does something to a person. And it is very corosive effect.
It's also a lot fear in there. Unsecurity.
I also worry what they're gonna do with him. I also thought they might go the white heart= blank slate way. May happen he does not remember when he wakes up, again. Would alow them to reverse positions between Belle and him in 2B, who knows. But I am with you, that they should no through away what this haracter is, really. He should be able to get his redemtion in a manner that fits. But, I have to admit, since Season 3 they did not give us much for this ship. High Time they get more sweat moments again. I mean, come on, it's a lot Charming and Snow all the time. And it really becomes anoying.
Alarda85 Oh, I'm well-aware of Rumple's many unresolved psychological issues, and his horribly low self-esteem. That's what I meant by _socially stigmatized_ cowardice, and that's _why_ I feel so sorry for him. Rumple's father was labelled a coward, as he never loved his son and selfishly abandoned him as a child for eternal youth. Then, there's the fact that Rumple was labelled an outcast coward by Milah and his entire village after self-inflicting an injury to get out of the Ogre wars for the sake of living for his unborn son at the time. In hindsight, it may not have been the most noble, selfless, or well-thought out decision, but it was a decision made on the impulse of emotions. Besides, _no one_ in Rumple's village seemed to really forgive him for ever doing it, except for Bae who probably didn't understand the whole story, anyway. Milah abandoned Rumple too. While I do understand that he put her into a pretty crappy position in life by running away from the war, making her feel like she needed to run away with Hook, she didn't try to listen or understand him, or make a compromise with Rumple and left him alone with Bae. Rumple didn't compromise with Milah, either, and they both equally contributed to their mess of a marriage with their mutual resentment and lack of support for each other. Abandonment and being the helpless social outcast is a lot of where Rumple's cowardice comes from. That's why he's too afraid to open up with the truth, give up power, and believe in true love. Those are his most tragic character flaws, and that's why he's so hard to not sympathize with. He's a _victim_ of his own cowardice, insecurities, power addiction, and dark curse. The point of it being socially stigmatized cowardice, though, is that he was raised by a coward who abandoned him, got labelled and treated as a lame coward by his village, took on the dark curse for the sake of Bae, ended up getting chronically addicted to the dark magic, impulsively gave up Bae for power, and thus ended up becoming just what he always never wanted to be, a _true_ coward. It was like a chain reaction that just kept growing. Rumple's a character that needs _a lot_ of major therapy.
Alarda85 I'm almost positive that he's going to wake up early on in 5A too. We haven't heard anything that would suggest otherwise, thus far.

In tha last season finale we had the hint with the dagger, that sugested there might be a lot of trouble into that direction, and it turnes oud that way. This season they turned the tables on Belle and Rumple. (The little scene where they reversed things with the chiped cup) I somehow have a feeling that they'll use more of that. With his heart white and the fact that the apprentice said something about they will have to figure out if they can help him, he might be out for a while. Spoiler wise, we know that Robert Carlyle is still listed among the major cast. (My first reaction to the finale was actualy: Oh, no, he's gonna quit!!!!!:-) So that's a relieve.) So there will flashbacks, I would imagine. We know little of the origins of the Dark Curse and how exactly it affects its vessel. My guess would be it brings out existant flaws, fears, resentments... Well everything dark that the bearer has in them, as well, and strengthens that. But it's a theorie, nothing more. But I bet there'll be flashbacks with him enough. The search for Merlin could take them most of 5A. And they could reverse Belle ans Rumples positions in the 2A finale by having him lost his memories. Or maybe the ones from the time he's been under the curse. Would be something suitably mean. And it's something I'd say they're capable of doing. The question is, if they do, who do they treat the character. I agree totaly with you that Rumple is totaly in need of therapy. But looking at this guy, it might be kinder to have im remember slowly and come to therms with that on and on.
Making him remember like Belle, all at once - that seems a bit dangerous. Could really unhinge that poor guy. And we know of course, he is not that stable.
And, we know that Rumple managed it that Belle had a feeling that there was something between them that she did no longer remember.
If they're going at it from this direction, that could be interesting. Give this guy a little space to breath, maybe even realise he can believe in it that she loves him and will not drop him again like a hot potato. Getting his memories back at some boint, maybe little by little, with the knew found security in her still intakt.
Well, written down it just looks like wishful thinking, to honest...
But we know e's made some small progress during season 4 as far a character development goes. And in season 2 to 3A he was on good path. Let's hope they get him going on it again. He certainly deserves the chance.
Alarda85 I still think that Belle will be the strength that he needs to wake up. Nothing cool will happen on OUAT if Rumple doesn't survive. He's the only one smart enough to make things happen behind the scenes, and figure everything out. I doubt Hook, Regina, Henry, and the Charmings would even be able to find a way to Camelot/Merlin to save Emma without Rumple's help.
