  • Natalia Bessmertnova passed away one year ago, on February 19, 2008. This clip is my modest tribute to the great ballerina. It would be impossible to make it without acknowledged efforts of Hookham who collected at his site www.ballerinaga... many Bessmertnova photos used in the clip. Boris Christov and the chorus of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia (Bulgaria) sing Davids Psalm 141 on the music by Pavel Chesnokov (Zhertva vechernyaya Evening Sacrifice).
The text in the Bible, King James version:
    1. Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
    2. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

beautiful ballerina. I remember seeing her as Phrygia in the ballet Spartacus with Vasiliev... during the 70s, a golden age of the Bolshoi. thank you for this tribute to Bessmertnova.

No, I was not dancer, but kind of mad about ballet. First time I was taken to see Ulanova 5 years old, it was 1959. Then I followed on about 20 years of Golden Era, and beleive me, nothing better was created or performed in ballet since then

@Nushika9 I think this comment is very rude and full of malice - I spent all my youth at Bolshoy - she NEVER was anything like queen, the real Queen was Ulanova and after her retiral there were dancing simultaneously great ballerinas Plisetskaya, Maximova, Timofeeva, Kondratyeva, Sorokina etc. and each of them had special things about them and signature part - for Bessmertnova it was Giselle because she was and still is the best one, absolutely not because of whoever her husband was

Sorry, but this is 140 Psalm. Not 141.

Natasha is unendingly, hauntingly beautiful. Those eyes! You can see her beautiful soul in them, and that is where her dancing came from.
