I once had a Roland JP 8000. But I sold it back then, among other things, to buy an Alesis Andromeda A6. Today I have a Roland JP 8080. I love it and will no longer sell it. For me, these synthesizers are also a good introduction for synthesizer newcomers. You can easily learn the structure and functionality of a synthesizer here without having to constantly go to sub-menus. Very nice presentation. Thanks for that! Greetings from Bergisch Gladbach Germany.

That is so true. The buildt up of Making sounds is so easy , and brings so many great sounds just by tweeken and testing knobs :) Don’t sell it again .. and the 8080 is a wonderful synth. 😃😃😃

I used to play the JP-8000 for hours as a teenager at Guitar Center as a teenager, but it was way out of my price range. I snagged a JP-8080 a couple years back for a steal (like $400 something), I would never sell it.

*JP-8000 is a legend that ushered music into a new era. He is the father of electronic dance music, especially Trance (with all its subgenres). If you like quality, bright and full-bodied, fat electronic dance music, you owe it to him.*
_Note: This king has only one flaw. These are chronic motherboard problems that occur after 20 years of use. This does not happen in all of them, but these problems are seen in many of them. Symptoms: leaks in filters or modulators, parameter jumps in the audio, weakness in the main audio output, and so on. If diagnosed early and taken to a doctor, you can save his life with a few capacitors and a rotary/slide pot. A Repair Recap Kit is sold for this purpose. They will work for you._ Thanks for the review, Gleen. *With love from Türkiye.*

I have and love both of them. MY JP8080 in my studio B and my JP8000 in Studio A. In Studio A I also use an AN1X which I find was so underated back in the days, I think till now. Great Synth also. Hope Roland will make a plug in of the JP80X0 for JupiterX and Fantom Series like Yamaha has done for the new montage with the ANX Engine

oh yes. I love my JP-8000 and I'm happy to see it getting some love in 2023. Unfortunately it's suffering from the low output volume problem but I've sourced a reputable guy to fix it, going to sort that out in the next week or so.

I remember worshiping this as a kid. Always wanted one, and an AN1x. Grew up, bought real analog stuff, including andromeda, prophet5,obxa,etc, eventually bought both jp8000/an1x, and was not disappointed by the JP8000. AN1x however, was in my "don't meet your heroes" camp. Could have really used a JP8000 as a kid. It still seems useful, although I hear some have issues. I have a hard time believing the one in your video has any issues. It's in very good condition, hard to find ones without white scuffs all over.

One of my favs default programs are: 1979!, Last emperor, Debussy, Eliptical, Cream lead, Feedback lead, Massive Pad, The fat guy, Soaring mini, Jupiter pad, MKS80 Bell, Comb strings .... Oh yes, the analog-like sounds on the JP-8000 are totally sublime!

Big fan of your channel, I really like the subtle approach and relaxed style compared to others explaning the tech specs that we all already know.
I went to the music shop and tried them all and fell in love with the juno-x. Having had the juno 60 I wanted to hate the juno X but then realised I was being irrational, I've now ordered one.
One thing is, the SH-201 I wanted to get because I love the feedback osc and would like to know what it is, where else it is etc without having to buy the original keyboard, can it be done on the juno-x?

I’ve had the JP8000 for over 20 years and never really delved into dawless stuff. Recently I bought quite a few new things, such as the Circuit Tracks, Roland S-1 and the Yamaha Reface CP. Decided to make some Donna Summer - I Feel Love inspired techno and I couldn’t get the JP8000 to sit in the mix nicely as pads or strings. I finally ran it through the AC Noises bit crusher/reverb which gave it more character and it fit slightly better. Feeling a bit down about the keyboard, but your enthusiasm about it cheered me up. I have used it really successfully for bass and the Stargate pad can work nicely in the right context so… I suppose its trial and error, I’m still learning. It was the filter cutoff slider and Last Emperor patch that made me fall in love with it in the shop. Your keyboard knowledge made the strings sound nice. I was thinking one of the newer and smaller VA synths might have a fuller sound now

Most of the presets that come with the JP8000 are so cheesy. It's possible to make much more interesting and atmospheric pads, huge angry leads and massive sub basses without any additional processing outside of the synth. The feedback osc hardly gets mentioned and can produce much more interesting sounds than the supersaw. It's a great synth, and one of the few that I've managed to keep in my arsenal from back in the day.

It's a cool synth. I think if I was going to get one, I'd go for the desktop version, the JP-8080, as I don't need the keys (have several other keyboards), but the sounds are really good. It's not a synth I'd be in the market for right now, but at some point in the future, I would probably consider either a JP-8080 or an Access Virus Rack for those big, hard hitting trance sounds.

Yes, the sound on all of them dies. I've heard it's the capicitors on the output board. All their output capacitors have a limited lifespan of twenty-something years. It's an easy fix if you have access to a repair person, or are trained in electronics.

I had the bigger bro: JP-8080 several years ago. I sold it to buy a guitar. If I was a rich man, I would not have bothered to sell it (the guitar is a higher priority). The slight regret is due to the fact that it has a certain flavor that is difficult to capture with my existing software (although I miss it less and less the better patches I make). It basically boils down to what pallet of colors you like to paint your sound with. Still, I do miss a tactile synth.
I generally prefer oldschool electronica all the way to the early-to-mid 90s Video-game soundtracks sort of sounds in my music (prog rock is fun too). I did plenty EDM back in the day, and only like the sounds, but always wish that EDM music was more complex (great sounds, but missed opportunities, if you ask me). I can get lost these days in "Dad-electronica" _Greek or citrus_ flavored sounds (and I'm not even middle aged). The Roland JP series can fit very well in those asks, but if I had a blank check, I'd probably probably go for something more vintage or nostalgic, like the Roland Jupiter 6/8 (that's a BIG ask $$). Software can get you a long way, but I do miss the touchy-feely knobs and sliders, and that last 5% of the authenticity.
There is something about the filters on these VA Rolands. Sure, it's a computer inside, but I have yet to find a plug-in that fully encapsulates that rubbery, and slightly cold or thin resonance. In spite of the fact that it might be "thin" compared to a slightly older synth, it sits in the mix well. I'm of the opinion that you should be able to make great music with whatever tools you've been blessed with, but if you DO own a 90s Roland, I'd suggest keeping it. Even if you do find a VST that is a picture perfect plastic-y filter, that's one less resource hog for a taxed CPU. I for one think that filter is a great ingredient to add to your sonic-spice rack.
Thank you for this trip down memory lane. Fun vid!

Every JP unit has lost its output or will lose it soon due to faulty capacitors on the main board.
All aluminum capacitors need to be replaced with new, high-quality ones.
It is advisable to seek professional assistance for this repair, as it involves soldering\de-soldering SMD capacitors because the main board is highly sensitive.
