Now that the video is out I got so much more shit to talk bruh honestly should’ve just redone the video - Ігри
How in the flying fuck did he enjoy Factorio? He doesn't like having a large inventory, he doesn't like open worlds where you discover stuff, he doesn't want his hand held, he find walking around picking up stuff boring.
That's literally factorio!
He’s hella inconsistent. That’s how.
He probably is fine with those things but doesn't want to admit that he can't actually play most games for shit so just says he doesn't like X about it even if it contradicts with what he likes
Ya he is very opinionated and if he doesn't like it he makes up reasons to dislike a game.
Dawg ur actually insane for pointing that out. I didn’t even think of that lmao
Because he's a hypocrite
UTM: "I'll listen to you. Tell me what to do, so that I can enjoy this game."
Chat: *Tells him how to play*
UTM: "Eh, but I don't want to that. It's boring, and it's not fun."
Chat: "Bro... Really?" 乁(ಠ_ಠ)ㄏ
IKR? This makes him come off as an ungrateful bastard!
Yeah, seriously. How can he complain about not enjoying the game when he doesn't even want to do any of the stuff it has to offer?
@@jonathangoodwin5609 Unfortunately, this is a habit of his. He thinks that if a game doesn't cater to the playstyle he favours, it's the game's fault he didn't enjoy it and the game as a whole is therefore bad. I doubt it's malicious, he's just _incredibly_ egotistical in that regard.
Mayo plays every game that isn't doom like he's disabled
But hey only a disabled person would make a "charity stream" for himself
That’s a lol for me, mate, take my like!
That's abelism. Disabled people are not inherently bad at video games nor do they always do charity streams for themselves. Its hilarious how people will reveal their awful harmful beliefs that effect people's lives over such petty YT drama over video games 😂

“Yeah, I’m a pretty charitable guy. Look, I even set up a charity on my stream! What do you mean, ‘asking for money so I can buy myself more stuff’ isn’t charity?”
EDIT: UTM has confirmed that his charity livestream did go to a real charity. Doesn’t make it any better that he had another donation goal going to himself in the same livestream
his charity stream was for doctors without borders, the donation goal for some other thing was seperate
he made a tweet explaining it but i cant be bothered to find it so you can look for it if you care so much

Great video bud. Bozo is the perfect word to describe Mayo after that disaster stream, his hypocrisy knows no bounds.
I enjoyed the video and all I'm thinking is "why the eff did you get the game Mayo? If you already had distasye for it why bother getting it?" Elden Ring was good but it's my least favorite Fromsoft game personally I think Radagon and Elden Beast were a really terrible final boss. I enjoyed that Marika and Radagon were one and the same but Elden beast was kinda just thrown in.
@@Lord-Nevahlus it was a subscriber that gifted him the game, he didn't want to play the game because he knows fromsofts souls games are not for him, but his audience raised money for charity for him to do a 5 hour stream of the game. So he was playing it because his audience wanted him to play it and they paid for the stream
At least Bozo the Clown can entertain thousands of people
@@synchaos9141 more like infuriate his audience like jeez i don't care for Elden Ring but i appreciate the effort From put in to attempt at an open world .
@@Lord-Nevahlus true about Elden Beast being something of a let down. But the way I played the game, Malenia was like my true final boss. And boy, does she deliver at that. Not just gameplay wise either, but that cut scene when she sprouts her wings? OMG It’s beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Nobody can do that like From Soft. Elden Ring was an absolute monster. Never seen lore like that in a video game. Miyazaki’s a bonafide artist. Nothing more, nothing less.
I genuinely love how bozo went from a silly word to probably the most insulting thing someone can be called. I'd rather be called a racial slur than a bozo.
Same here, bozo carries so much more weight and I'm all for it. I'd rather call someone a "fucking bozo" then "insert slur here"

I played Dying Light without crafting anything so it’s completely optional on top of it. The most you might need is a few healthpacks after the tutorial if you aren’t exploring and can’t find enough or forget to just buy them at stores, but you don’t have to craft anything if you don’t want to. Some people will complain about anything. Shit’s embarrassing.
Hey, everytime I feel like I'm garbage at Bloodborne or Elden Ring or any souls-like, I can now look at mayo streams to make me feel like I'm the best player in the galaxy.
I don’t like Souls-like they bore me but you know what I can do? Not play them. Something mayo should’ve done. If mayo grew up with a PlayStation and not a PC I think his shitty taste would’ve been better imo 😂
@@HupCapNinja Yeah, I don't get why many youtubers keep forcing themselves to engage in content they hate just for clicks? I mean sure it generates clicks and money, but it also probably drains your sanity a lot.
@@costelinha1867 I think you pretty much answered your question: Clicks & money. Idiots like Mayo WANT viewers to watch him, because if it makes him money, it’s a win for him! And he’s gonna keep falling down this rabbit hole until he has just enough to say “Welp, I still got paid, suckers!”
@@AlastorAltruistGaming Yeah, pretty much. And the worst part is that he's not the only one. People like this are everywhere, on every type of media, forcing themselves to engage in content they hate, just to make 3 hour long souless reviews about a piece of media just for money. And UA-cam rewards this, rather than actual quality content. (I'm not saying that a review needs to be positive to be of quality, I'm just saying that the guy making the review at least needs to try and give the media he's reviewing a fair chance. Which Mayo clearly did not do to Elden Ring, and I'd argue with GoW 2018 as well.)
It's ironic because he holds doom eternal in such high regard and he's decent at playing it. But games like these are just too difficult for him I guess.
i think it’s cool how for the majority of the video you’re fighting Under the Mayo, can’t believe FromSoftware put him in the game
There should be an item in the game called Useless Mayo or something and all it does is spawn an imp that constantly complains about everything and reduces all stats by 80% since Mayo doesn't bother to actually level.

Look, I'm a Souls veteran. I disliked Elden Ring for a variety of reasons, but... WHAT IS HE COMPLAINING ABOUT?
"I don't know where to go or what to do!" Yeah you're supposed to figure that out on your own, that's what open worlds, adventure, discovery, this entire series and genre is all about. Is he seriously pissed that he didn't listen to Varré? Is he seriously pissed that the game didn't hold his hand? Is he pissed that an open world game isn't linear?
It hurts to watch, listen, and think about.
Totally fine to dislike the game, but he clearly never had the intention to give the game a genuine chance.
He chooae to hate the fame from the start and actively complains about things caused by his own lack of interest or even incompetence.
Worse however is the fact that he contradicts his own staments from previous videos.
Many people say ER is a masterpiece, some think it's an ok game and others didn't enjoy it. All of which are valid opinions to have as long as it's actually supported by reasonable arguments and enough experience with the game. Mayo did neither, hence his takes are rightfully mocked.
Fellow Souls veteran here. While I personally loved Elden Ring (it's one of my favorites in the franchise now), I can see how some people might not enjoy it. Especially those who have never played a Soulslike before. But the complaints Mayo makes are so awful, you can tell he went into Elden Ring already hating the game for absolutely no real reason, just making excuses up as he goes along.

Just a thought, at the part where you mention mayo expressing his odd dislike for dying lights dead simple crafting system then goes onto talk about how he likes factorio, you might want to provide a soundclip or videoclip of him talking about his like/love for that game. It would really highlight the hypocrisy and strengthen your point
"this camera is gonna drive me insane"

i had these issues as a noob but i didnt blame it on the game. i blamed it on being a noob. This dude has a bit of that DarksydePhil vibe where he always blames the game mechanics for not doing well.

@@AlastorAltruistGaming Don't diss DSP like that.
At least he's funny.
Yeah but jokes aside, the camera in From Software games sucks for real.
No that was fair criticism. The camera is ass. It’s easy to die by falling around a tight corner because it’s so jank and refuses to move with your right stick as you move around it. Fkin annoying
mayo is truly maidenless
I had no idea who under the mayo was before all of these hit piece videos started showing up in my recommended. I kinda want this guy to become the new dsp cus I've been enjoying all of this.
sucks too because i found his channel years ago when he made his first doom eternal vids that blew him up. they were great videos that addressed the horrible 'criticisms' that were being thrown at doom eternal at the time. Now, he literally contradicts the great points he made in such videos, nowadays in a lot of his videos he just sounds like a fucking clown, wanting to be mad at the game he plays.
Yeah seriously let's get a new cast of characters around here. Phil's been around long enough.
All I can say is that Elden Ring was one of my first ever Dark Souls like game I’ve played. Being very skeptical at first weather or not I’d like it, lone behold I was hooked immediately. Sure, the difficulty, controls, and enemies were learning curves for me, especially for this type of game. Sure, is the game perfect by any means? No, not at all, I can agree that the camera can be a bit frustrating at times, but that didn’t want me to put down the game entirely just because it was a little discomfort. Anyways, all I’m trying to say is that for a person that has never played a FromSoftware game, I was at least able to learn the basic mechanics in the first four hours of gameplay. Mayo on the other hand seemed like he was not even willing to learn the game whatsoever, why would any person buy a game and not at least want to understand it? Not to mention, Mayo makes review videos talking about other games, this does not give a good impression of him as a reviewer in the long run. I understand that people learn at their own pace, some learn fast, some learn slower but at least they’re putting in the time to learn said game, Mayo does not give off that motivation.
I heard he didn't even buy the game himself, someone else did for him. I don't know if that's true or not, but considering his Elden Ring stream was about funding a ps5... I'd believe it
Everytime I hear the "my first game of the genre" I automatically have to dismiss some of the things you mention, in all honesty.
Like for example, you are not only on hype train, but the line of though that souls games are brutally difficult.. but really, they kind of aren't. These games are relatively simple, and older Castlevanias are way harder, Dark Souls having "high difficulty" is not really true, it's the simple fact that before the release of Elden Ring, these games were not too accesible or noob friendly, meaning they didn't give you much guidance from the get go.
Elden Ring literally has tutorial screens so no wonder why everyone is getting "good" at it.
It's not a Dark Souls game
@@WeebSlayer27 Or maybe because they’ve been playing the game and getting better at it?
@@WeebSlayer27 I agree that Souls games aren't that hard in reality, but bring up OG Castlevania is kinda ridiculous imo. Games from NES era were hard, true, but also not completely fair. And there was a good reason - otherwise they'd be too short and people wouldn't want to buy them.
Souls games are "hard", because they go against most modern design philosophies. While in most games you can run into a room full of enemies and spam the attack button to win, Fromsoft doesn't let you do that. While in other games a singular enemy is nothing but a fly, in Fromsoft games even a basic hollow can fuck you up. While in other games you can craft and buy healing items and spam them in battle, in most Fromsoft games they're limited and require you to find a good window in between enemies' attacks to pull off. Etc.
They're also often too vague. While gameplay basics are there, there's a lot under the hood that's never explained, even the story. And no, item descriptions are not "deep", or a good way of telling you the story - unique, sure, but unintuitive and unnecessarily hidden. Even well versed in the lore most likely read the wiki of consulted Vaati's videos. That's not good design, objectively. You might be into it, but most people won't. I can understand why most wouldn't want to spend hours on the first boss or so. Some don't have patience and perseverance required for Fromsoft games and that's okay.
Of course Elden Ring is BIG step in the right direction, even though the elitists will tell you otherwise. For me, Fromsoftware's games are great due to the build variety, combat and worlds they make. The fact that more people than ever can experience that is great.
Mayo is the kid who you Bring to a paintball match on your 13th birthday, 20 mins into the game and he's there like "I don't want to do this" and "tell me where the fun is" yet doesn't try to at least enjoy what he's doing and trying to figure out what's going to happen
4:51 it's obvious hes used to witcher or assassins crred combat where clicking attack while locked on maes you attack and hit no matter the spacing
I don't know about The Witcher combat but in Assassin's Creed you can actually be too far away from the enemy while locked on and whiff. Spacing isn't really a thing in the game quite like it is in Fromsoft games but it can be used to good effect if you know what you're doing: ua-cam.com/video/FqbghHqEp6Q/v-deo.html
I bet this is the case in The Witcher games as well. Still, your point is probably true I bet Mayo just hasn't really played a third person action game like Fromsoft games before. It's a more methodical, committal style of combat that I bet does not mesh well with his mindset garnered from playing so much DOOM Eternal.
I'm fine with people disliking or struggling with certain genres but the attitude of... not even trying he has is pretty inexcusable. Not to mention the fact he clearly wants the PS5 just to shit on GoW: Ragnarok, fueled by the popularity of his GoW videos making him feel relevant lmao.
After listening to that guys takes I now realize what a monument achievement it was to beat Elden Ring. After all, nobody told me exactly where to go or where the fun is. But against all odds somehow I found it! And here’s me thinking it was something to do with good game design.
It is good game design and good engagement from the players too. An open world is never fun whenever the player doesn't wanna interact, so it's a two-way communication between the game design and players
It's not like you wouldn't be able to find the way sooner or later
Mayo is probably the biggest midwit ever, yet he thinks he's a brilliant thinker and reviewer.
He got to give some input on Doom Eternal's DLC design so he now thinks he's some sort of game design god. But it's obvious he isn't since he tries to force Doom Eternal's design philosophy on every other game without considering the context of why they have different philosophies.
@@perrytran9504 Someone like Mayo, who cannot even understand the most basic and obvious foundations of an open-world game like Elden Ring, is in no position to lecture other developers on how they should or shouldn't design their games, especially since it greatly goes against the original concepts.

@@perrytran9504 yep! Not to mention, DOOM Eternal is a COMPLETELY different genre of game entirely! Ik what DOOM is & what DOOM isn’t; it’s an FPS game series based around nonstop action & very little inventory management, and apparently, Mayo doesn’t seem to get that when comparing other games.
Sounds like Mayo man is REALLY going to hate Final Fantasy 16. It literally has everything he hates (Style ranking, DMC combat, Dark Fantasy setting, Actual skill to play the game, Deep lore and an amazing story) Mayo also makes me think Doom eternal was a mistake sometimes. I LOVE Kingdom Hearts 2 but I don’t want every game to be KH2 like how he wants every game to like Doom eternal.

Mayo played ER because he wanted to get pissed off, he wanted to shit on people on chat. There was no other purpose other than to be malding the whole stream. He acts like he doesn't need to be told where to go, and then cries like a baby when not told where to go. Does he want Skyrim quest markers? Brainlessly walk to the next objective? Jesus man, you bought a SOULS game my brother in christ.
ok, so i admit that i have been disappointed by elden ring (just to be clear, i played through entirety of DS3 like 3 months prior to ER launch) and never finished the game, but i finished 3/4 of the story before i finally decided to give up, and even then, i wasn't tilted that i know nothing about the game like 15 minutes in, THIS IS HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, and i had no problems taking obvious hints in front of me, like "hey, there is that though enemy, and you've already died to him 10 times, how about you try to flee into that conveniently placed ruins 20 meters behind him, maybe there's something worth your attention"
i have no problems to share my negative, unpopular opinion, but before i figure out my opinion and share it, i at least try to play the game and understand what it's about
and i am very tolerant, game has to be basically fundamentally broken and uninteresting for me to make me last less than 10h
Yeah, I feel most people who are disappointed by elden ring just wanted a DS3 reskin. Thank God it isn't.
@@loubloom1941 nah, it's just that open world doesn't really suit this gameplay formula very well (in my opinion at least), miniworlds felt way better
also i could go on and on about what i didn't like about the game, but my main complaint is that you can't just push the story, you HAVE to do side activities, e.g. to know locations of story items that are hidden is some obscure side content locations, so on first playthrough you either do side content, or play with game wiki on other monitor, and i like neither, if i want to do main story and nothing else then, damn it, i should have such option
@@k680B it seems like you just dislike open world games
@@k680B That sounds like a you problem since exploration and finding obscure stuff has been integral to souls since DeS. Funnily enough DS3 is the most linear and bland out of all the 3 so I guess this make sense.
@@protossoverlord8345 There are plenty of us who consider DS3 the goat because it's streamlined to the best bosses and enemy design. This was something I especially noticed playing all the games at lvl 1, DS3 is just a very fair game and gives you a decent amount of freedom without letting you be completely overpowered like Elden Ring or super gimped like DS2. And for what it's worth, while I love ER, finishing it the first time was tough due to how much of a slog it can be if you engage with the open world very extensively. It does not help when most of the super annoying enemies are most common in there and not the legacy dungeons.
You must beat Mayo with a stick for him to enjoy the game. Also anything else than straight up corridor is too complex for him, which is obviously the game's fault and not his problem.
Ahh... being an edgy contrarian! I was too at 16 years old... ANYWAYS
Elden Ring was my first full From Soft experience. I used to suck at these games, but by pushing through tough challenges, and taking the time to learn the mechanics that aren't spelled out for you right away eventually gives way to this awesome "flow state" where you easily lose countless hours. I can't remember the last time a game had me looking at the clock like "SHIT! I've been playing for 5 hours, and have to stop so I can get ready for work... ok, ONE more mini-dungeon!".

He got mad at me for not telling him exactly where to go and what to do. He was insufferable. I told him recently I’m playing Elden Ring and he said he would like to play it with me. I said no.
The way Mayo talks reminds me of Wings of Redemption or Darksyde Phil.
It might just be me, but as someone that Elden ring was their first FromSoftware experience, I kind of find that people exaggerate how difficult it it to understand where to go and what to do, let alone get clues from reading.
Like I was scared as shit when I first got into the game, and then realized it's really relaxing the more I played it.
Edit: Also, 8 times out of ten, I find that I fie because I failed to notice an enemy in full view, or through myself head first into a group of enemies without a good plan of how to take them down.

"I am exploring"
Are you? Did you see that big fvcking glowing tree in the middle? Were you not interested in going towards it? Because if you did you may have found something, one of the things in an open world game is to look for something from far away and say "hmm I wonder what that is? I WANT TO GO THERE" like why are you asking for people on what to do when you literally have the freedom to do anything, go anywhere and not just stand there waiting for something to happen bruuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh
It's hilarious, when he left the tutorial chat asked how he liked the view, and I swear he intentionally kept the camera low to not see it while complaining how generic and bland it looked.
Mayo doesn't like green and other nature colors... I think it's safe to assume he doesn't touch grass very often.
So, uh, has anyone yet pointed out that green brown and yellow is the Doomguy's color scheme? Oftentimes not even yellow.
Not really sure what my issue is but when elden ring came out I actually played a good amount of the game (as far as getting moonlight gs for anyone in the know) but I couldn’t bring myself to keep playing A) my weapon was a lil disappointing and B) I feel as though as I started exploring more and more areas I didn’t get bored so much as I just started going from objective to objective to item location without really stopping to take it all in. My first 10-20 hours of elden ring are absolutely unforgettable and I hope one day I can go back to finishing it but even so this take is literally worse than moldy bread.
I suck at FromSoft games myself, but it was still enjoyable beating bosses even if they crushed me countless times. Elden was enjoyable since I love open world games and the various ways to play. I definitely relied a lot on summons and I used a strength build to compensate for my lack of skill.
I'm convinced UtM is just making rage bait and everybody is feeding the trolls. Time to whip out the popcorn.
I love Elden Ring. Platinumed and everything but I gotta say I still had no clue how the summoning pool worked to the very end
I found that with soulsborne games, you have to get used to the game and play over 10 hours to see how good the game actually is. Starting out can be frustrating sometimes because of how hard their games are.
Oh my goodness when he reads the bit about summoning pools 3 times and is like “uhh…what?” I practically fell out of bed laughing. I watched that bit about 8 times. 😂
I enjoyed ER, but my only gripe was the open world setting. I wish you weren't able to travel to end game areas, get end game weapons to start. I like the old linear style Souls games, you could still over level if a boss was too hard, but you couldn’t necessarily trivialize the entire game. I got bored after the first few bosses, but still finished the game. And yes, I know I could have just not over leveled, but the experience just felt off not knowing where your next goal was. I also thought damage was simply too high. At launch, you could literally one shot bosses, no skill whatsoever. Even after the recent patch, bosses get absolutely chunked in a few hits.
He even had the nerve to say Limgrave was bland. The fuck is he talking about? He obviously wasn't even trying to enjoy it.
"this area is so borring"
"Okay then Go explore and find the other areas"
"No i want to stay here complaing"
I don't care about this topic.
Is this guy narrating "special"? Because he sounds special
Based on his comments, I get the impression that he’s the sort of person that really needs concrete goals to pursue in order for a game to be enjoyable. A matter of intrinsic versus extrinsic value, where some people take pleasure from the act of exploring a world in and of itself, while others need a tangible reason or purpose for the exploration to be incentivized. I haven’t played Elden Ring (sadly), but I imagine it follows the same principle that FromSoft’s other games have of giving you only a vague goal in the opening cinematic - one that you might not even realize _is_ your objective - and are then dropped into the world and told to go. That just doesn’t work for some people, and I know I’ve seen several others besides this guy that’re like that.
I also think that he simply doesn’t like long / big games, either, in which case... yeah, Elden Ring was a bad choice from the get-go. I’m not sure whether it was entirely his decision to play it, or if his viewers were pushing him into it (that’s the way he made it sound, I think), but I’m guessing it should’ve been obvious that this was going to be the outcome right from the start. “Man Plays Game That Doesn’t Appeal To Him, And Dislikes It”. Shocking.
Apparently he played it because the chat "forced him too" or something along those lines. He already knew he didn't like From games, yet he still decided to play. Well, "play" is not the correct word for what was shown in the clips from his stream, but I digress 🤣
The game is very clear about what your goal is. Become the elden lord, you are told to go to the erdtree to accomplish this. That is extremely clear, the first thing you see upon leaving the tutorial cave is a MASSIVE RADIANT GOLDEN TREE!! It's safe to assume you gotta go there. All you gotta do is figure out how to get there. There is more to the game than that, but that'll be explained (and literally marked on your map for fuck sake) after step one.
You also get told other hints about points of interest, that would help achieve your goal. For example to get to the tree you need two great runes, Gideon in the round table hold will tell you exactly where some of theme are (4 I think) and hint at where the rest are. You only need two to beat the game, but you'll probably want to get them all anyway.
The guy right outside the tutorial tells you the light shooting out of the grace is pointing you to where you should go.
Mayo clearly just didn't pay attention, and even if he knew his end goal he wasn't willing to find a way forward.
Edit: I would like to add that the game can be beaten by just going straight through the main content, I think you only need to kill, 9 or 10 bosses, (something like that) excluding crazy sequence breaking shenanigans. It's not even that hard if you're happy with your starting weapon, and upgrade it.
@@vivil2533 well, yes, your main goal is that you must become Elden Lord. The PROBLEM, is that Mayo thinks EVERY single game has to have a map marker, like with Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Fallout, or others. Or that a game has to be like DOOM with nonstop fights & constant fun. If that’s the case, he should stick with THOSE genres of games, because trying to play anything else, he’s about as dumb as a box of rusty wrenches.
mayo: its not doom eternal, 2/10
He complains there is nothing to do in Elden Ring, then complains because each member of chat is telling him to do something different, so unless there are only two people in chat that means there are literally hundreds of options when it comes to 'things to do'
Thing with Mayo is, he's built a community that thinks he's generally well versed in the gaming space, so naturally they wanted him to try games like Sekiro or Elden Ring.
But he isn't. He's just a dude with preferences and that's okay. The problem arises when people make him talk about games he does not enjoy.
He was actually pretty sceptical about making an Elden Ring stream, because he KNEW he wouldn't enjoy it. Whatever the reasoning was, money or stupidity, is another topic entirely, but it's also people's fault for WANTING him to do this stream.
I mean I never really liked the guy too much, at least when he was talking about his preferences, what he deemed good or bad. His videos explaining different mechanics in games he DOES enjoy are pretty good actually, the problem arises when he's supposed to talk about those he DOES NOT. His Sekiro video was absolutely terrible for example, and I haven't even played Sekiro.
There is elitism coming off him and it's up to you if you tolerate that or not. He has a specific persona that's not that great, especially when confronted. I think people should've just left the guy alone doing his thing, instead of making a stink about it. I mean he himself didn't even make a lot of videos about games he did try, but didn't enjoy at all, like BPM. And from what I can remember, his Ultrakill video was half assed anyway, and he said he didn't want to do it.
The fact that he forced himself to make it regardless is his fault no doubt though. I'm not gonna defend, nor am I going to hate on him, even if he has a lot of shit takes in my opinion. Simply because he's not out there trying to state his opinions as facts, or hate on Elden Ring for example, or anything else really. It seems like it's people who are trying hard to force this "hate" out of him - though it's his fault for falling for that and often overreacting, even it's a little funny for some of us.
Okay so as someone who’s first fromsoftware game was Elden ring I kinda get where he’s coming from where it’s hard to figure out where to go and UI for the first time, but man he’s missing out, I finished the game and I’m obsessed! 🤩
Dude deadass saw an enemy directly in front of him then turned about touched a bone then killed a goat. . . Then said I’m bored.
I have a friend like this. They more so put the game down, saying it’s not for them, rather than complain. However I find myself questioning why they have trouble. When I found myself in the situations they were in, I picked up what I needed to do pretty easily. Explore the world, find weapons, level up, do dungeons, etc. But when they found themselves confused it was difficult to guide them into the mindset of “figure it out yourself”. Elden Ring is a tough game but the difficulty of figuring it out for yourself is one of the best parts. That’s the pull is that it’s a journey that rewards you. Though It’s not for everyone 🤷♂️
This is a fantastic video. My only real criticism of “Elden Ring” and almost every FromSoftware is how insanely obtuse they can be. Sure, it’s great to figure things out and explore, but we all watch help videos to figure out where to go and what to do. But this guy doesn’t even try to put in the work. When I first played Elden Ring, it was confusing and I didn’t know where to go. So I looked up videos, figured out where to go, and then made my character super powerful and started killing bosses. Some great games aren’t going to hold your hand. I wish the tutorials were more clear, but it’s great to figure things out with a community of gamers. FromSoftware fans are the best fans in the world! Git Gud!
I think he also said that Devil May Cry 5 was bad or boring, I forget exactly what and I believe something about how how there's no incentive to do anything except button mash. While also saying that by doing more varied attacks and getting more style you get more currency, so clearly there's an incentive. Also the whole point of DMC is to style, like who doesn't enjoy starting off with basic combos and getting flashier ? I think he also compared it to God of War and said he liked God of War more, which is fair, but they're pretty much the same style of game. So I don't get how you could like one and find the other boring when they're fundamentally the same ?
I think his issue with dmc5 was that there wasn't a hard mode available from the start.
If you look at playstation trophies it's clear that the overwhelming majority of gamers don't even finish the games they play, let along play them a second time. So considering that, first impressions (ie the first playthrough) are extremely important.
Mayo think that being competent at the game mechanics in order to beat the game is mandatory for him to enjoy the game. I haven't played dmc5 so I don't know how hard or not the base difficulty is but for mayo the game was clearly so easy that for him to beat the game, using the game mechanics was optional. Iirc he said once he unlocked the harder modes he enjoyed the game a whole lot. He just wanted that to be his first play through.
@@cameronfarrell9076 I do remember the complaint about not having the hardest difficulty unlocked from the beginning, with DMC 5 you could probably get through the game on a lower difficulty by just mashing through things but I think they do a good job of introducing enemies that push you towards engaging with the broader style and weapon diversity. Sure you could slam your head against the wall to mash down a harder enemy or you could use moves or weapons better suited to deal with them, like there are enemies that you can parry to open them up to attacks or use heavy strikes to break their guard or even launch them into the air and combo them.
So it's really like any other game, you could beat it the simplest way or get more involved with it and try new things more complicated things
He talks bad about dmc5, sekiro, elden Ring, dying light, bayonetta, ultrakill and sifu seems like he doesn't like good games
You can tell from his gameplay that's never played a Souls game in his life. Which would be fine, if he had just said that, and made it clear that he didn't understand the gameplay loop, I and many others would have been happy to help him learn the game, even co-op with him as he played.
So Mayo just hates RPG's in general. Hates having lots of items, hates multiple stats, hates exploring entire worlds, hates running around fighting enemies and doing caves, etc, etc.
me personally couldn't get into it. installed some cheat thing that gave me infinite life and defeated that roderick dude in the castle and that was it.
Did this guy seriously try to fight a dog with nothing but charged attacks?
Bro really said the game was boring when he just picked up plants and killed sheep. Then he complained about the lock-on cam, when he was MOVING IT. Don't lock on if you want to move the camera yourself.
As someone who enjoyed dying light for over 100 hrs, the crafting system in it is pretty shit, I would have 100% preferred a traditional rpg item system where completing missions would reward you with gear and currency, and in order to keep atrain on your resources you can put repair points in the safe zones and have a limited durability.
I spent at least 10 hrs in that game running around picking up generic crafting material, there wasnt even a spot you could go to get specific shit it's all the same loot table and theres just a chance to get the resource you need.
The crafting system wasnt horrible, but this game came out during the crafting craze in gaming and it really didnt need it, it could have had a much cooler system with common/rare/legendary items tied into the story and missions.
The crafting system felt like a way to increase the players time in game, neither good nor bad because I actually enjoy moment to moment gameplay in dying light
you could finish the enire game by simply going north AND GOING TOWARDS THE GIANT GLOWING TREE
You do need two great runes... if only there was some know it all, sitting in a hold with a circular table who could tell us exactly where most of those are...
Ah yes; when the game doesnt exactly tell me what to do; I just
*STAND STILL AND DO NOT ENGAGE AT ALL.*
💀
I can´t believe someone as skilled as Mayo (in DOOM Eternal) can play this game so badly by comparison. Watching him fight that dog was laughable.
Even though I personally think Mastering doom eternal ULTRA NIGHTMARE difficulty is way harder than Elden Ring (from experience) I have beaten UN about 5 times and I've struggled in those way more than I've ever struggled in my 1.6K hours of Elden ring lol. So the fact that Mayo can easily and skillfully breeze through Ultra Nightmare makes me wonder how in the hell is he so bad at elden ring. A game where all you need to learn is just a couple of things compared to DOOM where you literally have to learn Combos, Weak Points, layouts, ammo placement, quick switching, ammo management etc etc. It's so much harder than ER.
@@moz6388 Brother Nier 2.0 said that, when it comes to games that he does not like, Mayo is doing something called "lame play" where he intentionally plays a game poorly in order to either push a narrative or to make a game look worse that it actually is. This can be seen in his reviews of Ultrakill and God of War, where he refuses to use anything other than the pistol in the former and mostly uses the Leviathan Axe's light combo in the latter. You can even see this in his stream of Elden Ring, where the structure of an open world and the idea of creating your own objectives seem too much for him to comprehend.
@@moz6388 he was drunk during the elden ring gameplay
To be honest when I first started playing Elden ring and was getting pounded relentlessly and having items that I had no idea how to use it was frustrating. The thing is it’s not that the game isn’t frustrating, it objectively is. It’s that when you level up and strategically sodomise some boss that’s been bending you over for hours and the feeling of hard won victory is what the game is for me. I don’t know who said it but someone described Elden ring as “ I don’t know what’s going on, here’s a stick, now go kill a god”
The whole point of any game is to figure stuff out on your own, it's ok to get help tips if your stuck on a puzzle or a difficult enemy once in a while. Nobody has problem solving skills anymore because people that are handed things and don't work for it or things come to people without effort without practice or training aren't ever handed a challenge because they don't want to loose but have a ego so big it blocks the sun. This also is related to toxic and salty players, when playing online and there's lag and they insult you or tell them it's lag...
they become blind, out of nowhere which would be insulting to actual blind people.
This guy is gonna be the next Quantum TV with his horrible takes...

"Where's the fun?? Show me it right now"
"I'll wait"
Why does this man have the same energy of a frustrated math teacher getting impatient with his students? He sounds so exhausting to watch.
Dude u gave me flashbacks watching this stream. I actually almost just scrapped this video cause I was getting bored going through it
Mayo plays games he won't like.
"I don't like this game, I going to complain about the core aspects of this entire genre"
Hey! I took offence with the "playing like an old man" take! I'm old and I platinum og Demons' Souls & Bloodborne, 100% Sekiro and Dark Souls PTDE! Anyways, subbed!
//edit
also on my way to 100% Elden Ring. The game is just so massive and I like to experiment builds and look at every damn corner for loot it's taking me ages to complete (almost 450h in that's how you know I'm old man with tons of free time on his hands :D)
the guy got out of the starting dungeon, sees church of elleh (The literally only building around) and just doesn't go there. Also im starting to think he just ignored the tutorial cave.
I like knowing different views on games i love, but what i like more is when the views in question have any kind of base other than biases. Elden ring is not a puzzle world, or at the very least limgrave definitely isn't, if you pay attention and explore, like in any open world, you'll succeed
I’ve known and still know people like Mayo. They don’t realize how annoying they are because their ego is so large it’s all they can see.
Take a break and come back later? NO! I’m uninstalling if I don’t have fun now. People like that are ridiculous.
This man created a secondary donation for a ps5 when he has 116k subs and gets alot of views per video. Why. There's people with less subs and views who don't do that garbage.
His gameplay here was painful to watch. God have mercy on the souls that chose to watch it live.
"I enjoy exploration and discovery in limited amounts."
Then Elden Ring and Ultrakill -- an open-world RPG and a mechanical sandbox with a Style meter -- aren't the games for you. They're not objectively bad, they're just not games you personally enjoy. It's seriously frustrating that he's incapable of separating his own preferences from objective criteria.
6:07 "what i dont like is inventories-" literally opened the item crafting menu
Shit man I thought it was just throwing shit at Ultrakill but now I know that he’s touched my precious Elden Ring I’m throwing hands.
5:11 buffb: "there's no set path where you should level up. They expect you to run around this first region and kill enemies, pick up stuff, do caves etc."
"yeah I don't want to do any of that"
WHAT?! What the fvck?! Then what do you want to do? Find the tree sentinel only to get clap and then complain that the tree sentinel is unfair because you're low level and there's no way for you to level up?!?!?! Heeeeeehhhh???
The funniest part is you can totally just run a fairly straight line through the game and be fine, the level curv work pretty well. I honestly sometimes think the game was balanced around going straight through, cause if you explore alot the late game areas are too easy.
The only thing you won't find alot of on a straight run through is smiting stones.
Kill Margit, then godrick, go straight to renala, up that mine to the Altus plateau, into th golden city, kill morgot kill fire giant, do ferum azula, do final boss gauntlet. If you kill everything on your path you'll probably have enough levels to have a fair shot the whole way through, and if not you have plenty of on curv gringing spots.
The original super Mario might be more Mayos speed
4:29 thats your basic ign playtester right there, "omg this camera sucks" proceeds to targetswap and attack shit that is like 10 meter away from him
that shit is just fucking gold holy shit
I very much prefer Joshscorcher's take on Elden Ring. He didn't like it but for different reasons:
-the "reward" of finally beating a hard boss that gives him trouble feels too little too late (in some cases I actually agree with this, when I beat Morgott I didn't feel excited, but relieved that I didn't have to deal with this stupid fight anymore)
-When he got further into a fight it didn't feel like he was improving at it (Also partially agree here)
-the button inputs are too picky, and he doesn't like that sprint and dodge are mapped to the same button.
-him admitting to simply not having the patience for Fromsoft games (he has a record of disliking Souls games in general for this reason)
-the world didn't interest him enough to go explore, to quote him: "I killed a freaking *dragon* and it was just like 'uh, okay?' "
Man doesn't know how target lock works???
If he thought the camera was a pain I would love to see how he reacts to some of the previous fromsoft games lol. Elden ring camera was much less intrusive than something like Bloodborne.
