+ureviews Is the ZYLISS Susi 3 made out some kind of metal? And if so, it looks it's painted with a grey paint on the surface, is that correct?

I bought this blind as my first garlic press, then thought I'd look up reviews.. really glad I've bought a decent one first time :) thanks for the review - it's great to be reassured by someone who knows what they are doing.

I love using garlic press too, I agreed that Zyliss Susi 3 is very attractive. But I rather peel garlic before pressing it. Makes a lot of difference.

I like the Zyliss Susi 3 but make it easy on yourself and either buy the skinless cloves or remove the skins by hand. They are much easier to squeeze & almost no left over meat in the chamber. Excellent reviews

Small end of plastic cleaner is what you use to clean inside instead of using fingers

Thanks for the review. To be honest, I didn't think the no peeling gimic would work, but it does. Good to know :)

I've been using an old Tupperware press, and the difficulty of cleaning out the leftovers is driving me crazy. Zyliss here I come.

It looks like you have to squash really hard for it to work but I am old and my hand strength is now not good so would you recommend?

    • @ureviews

One option is to peel them put in the freezer (In a sealed bag) and then thew as many as you need and then press them. The process makes them much softer. Another option is this: ua-cam.com/video/HoH4paT6Pa8/v-deo.html It is a little easier. But my favorite is still this.

I've had my Zyliss susi for a couple of years.. I just put it in the dishwasher and have done this before.. I went to use it today and black stuff came off all over my hands.. looked like lead, is it?? is it not safe to use now or is it toast? thanks G

    • @ureviews

+Gayle Chandler the black is aluminum oxide (basically it rusted) as a result of the detergent and the hot water. I honestly don't know if it's safe to keep using or not. Maybe someone else can chime in. That's why you should never put these things in a dishwasher.

Had a super old one maybe the Susi 1? From Zyliss that did the same thing. I freaked out a bit and chucked it. Now I'm reading that the oxide is harmless. It was from the 1960s or something I thought it was some bad stuff. Didn't make the garlic look nice though. That's important for food.

It’s safe, America’s test kitchen sent it to the lab to make sure.

Thank you! I've been looking for one comparable to the Pampered Chef press. Does this one start to tarnish or lose its coating? The pampered chef one started having some sort of black substance on the garlic. Not sure what it was.

+Tiff M The susi 3 is still like new, Always hand wash these right away. The susi 3 is my favorite of all the ones i tested and the one i use on a daily basis.
