Works great, just had one small hick-up. Outlook kept coming up with a failure that Gmail did not recognize my log-in or password. Turns out that I needed to disable the 2-step login, once I did that it worked great! thanks.
hi great video - one problem - Ive never used Outlook on my XP. I can only get the wizard and cannot open the Outlook main program to access tools etc ? any tips ???
Hey Rich, I have never had a problem setting up my Gmail IMAP account either in Outlook 2007 or on my mobile phones using the instructions on their site, but needed to delete and re-do them on my PC tonight and just happened upon your great video tutorial just to see if I had been missing anything. Anyway, I have had an on-and-off issue with where my sent items end up. I have set and re-set the folder where I want them to go, which is to my default Sent folder under the hierarchy of my Personal Folders, but time after time (including several times just now) they end up in my Gmail Sent folder rather than my default Sent folder, and often even end up in my own Inbox! I am by no means a novice to PC's, or MS Office in general, however this has been driving me to distraction for quite some time now, and I thought that you might be able to offer some assistance. I am currently using Windows 7, if that information helps. Thanks in advance.
Brilliant video but i recieved email from google saying blocked sign in attempt due t unsafe app, How safe is outlook 2007? also I cant seem to rid the screen of smtp server passwod box. Any ideas about both of these?
Hi John, mmm Office 2007 is end of life now mate, is there any way you can update to a later version like 2013 or better still, Office 365 which is a subscription based Office with all the same features but only $13 bucks a month? www.office.com/ That's what I have done and really happy with it, never have to upgrade either. cheers! Richie
Hello. I have a problem. I can't connest to outlook 2007. I have done everything that you done and when I click Test outlook keep asking me to insert my user name and password. When I insert it and click next it opens again.. :/.. Can you help me??
+Nejc Černigoj try this update Nejc: UPDATE: Google are always changing their security requirements and recently Outlook (all versions) was affected, so if after following this guide you keep getting a password prompt, visit the Gmail article My client isn’t accepting my Gmail username or password ( support.google.com/mail/answe... ) and do two things (1) activate the Unlock Captcha and then (2) enable access from less secure apps. You should now be able to follow this guide and everything will work fine.
+RicmediaPCHelp hello, i am having the same problem but can not locate the article you reference through the link or the two options you list. Please help. thanks
I tried to help a client today that could access her account, the pop up window did keep appearing which was truly annoying, but the real problem was the fact that she could not retrieve any recent emails? only emails from 2010 and 2011 were appearing and every time I deleted them, they would keep resurfacing. NO new emails, just old. Does anyone know how this is happening or how it can be fixed???
Hi Gurmeet, have you allowed less secure apps in Gmail? See this update... UPDATE: Google are always changing their security requirements and recently Outlook (all versions) was affected, so if after following this guide you keep getting a password prompt, visit the Gmail article My client isn’t accepting my Gmail username or password ( support.google.com/mail/answe... ) and do two things (1) activate the Unlock Captcha and then (2) enable access from less secure apps. You should now be able to follow this guide and everything will work fine.
Yep good idea to check that option in Gmail Forwarding/POP settings if you have a lot of emails, otherwise it will take a long time to sync. Thanks for your suggestion Sophia, cheers! Richie
+RicmediaPCHelp : Help me out !!! I have configured the settings in gmail and also in outlook , but the problem is whenever i click send or receive e-mails (my settings are all exactly the same as mentioned).sending request is satisfied. I am not receiving the ack from the server and my outlook is not getting synchronized.. RESPOND AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE
+arun ab howdy, did you see the update? UPDATE: Google are always changing their security requirements and recently Outlook (all versions) was affected, so if after following this guide you keep getting a password prompt, visit the Gmail article My client isn’t accepting my Gmail username or password ( support.google.com/mail/answer/14257?hl=en ) and do two things (1) activate the Unlock Captcha and then (2) enable access from less secure apps. You should now be able to follow this guide and everything will work fine. see how you go . cheers, Richie
Having found my Gmail account had been compromised, I changed the password and clicked on Outlook Settings to change the account details, putting in the new password. I changed nothing else! It wouldn't connect. I checked the password on the Gmail site, and all was fine. So, I deleted the Gmail email account in Outlook and created a fresh one. It STILL didn't work! I have checked and re-checked password, email and Advanced Settings, and I still cannot get it to work. I have re-checked the POP3 settings on Gmail and they too are correct. I've gone through the www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and that hasn't fixed the problem, either, not even after doing it around half a dozen times! I am at my wits end with this! I am think I may have to re-install Office. If you have any other ideas that I could try, I shall be more than grateful!
Graham Nelson Hi Graham, do you have an antivirus installed? If so give your computer a complete scan. You can then perform a repair install of office by going to *Control Panel > Add Remove Programs >* then click on Microsoft Office and choose to *Repair*. The only other advice I can give is it could be a firewall issue (ie. bocking ports) so you could go to *Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a program through Windows Firewall >* and make sure either Office or just Outlook is allowed through. Hope this helps mate, let me know how you go. cheers! Richie
RicmediaPCHelp Thanks very much for replying. Unfortunately, none worked. :( I ran Repair for Office. I ran Norton Power Eraser, which found nothing. I removed connection from the internet and ran the full Norton 365 scan ... and that DID pick up 22 viruses! (So much for Power Eraser.) I'd already run Kaspersky and Matwarebytes). I use Norton 365 and its firewall all the time and checked that is still allowing Outlook through (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OUTLOOK.EXE), I've re-checked the password works on Gmail site (it does) and that Pop3 is checked on the site (it was/is), I've UNchecked IMAP (wondering if there was some kind of conflict there) I've re-tried without success both 587 and 465 (with both TLS and SSL). Nothing seems to work except Outlook works fine with a Yahoo email account! I'm 99% sure the computer *was* compromised last week (because some port settings were changed (which I corrected and ran several virus scans) and later found that someone had accessed my Gmail account using an iPhone ... which is why I changed the password and when everything with Gmail stopped working for Outlook! There are times when I would like to chuck this computer at the wall and buy a new one, except I can't afford it! Any ideas before I shoot the computer or myself?! Re-install Office?
Graham Nelson Hi Graham, sounds like you have done everything reasonably possible mate, but without actually being there it's hard for me to advise. When you did the Gmail unlock captcha did you also check the "*Allow access from insecure apps*" too? see this URL: www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps Other than that I would say getting a computer technician to check it out for you. Cheers! Richie
RicmediaPCHelp Richard, huge thanks! The problem was with the insecure apps switch. I'm puzzled why everything was fine before I simply changed the password but, hey ho! I'm not going to worry about that now as I've got some emails to write! Thanks again. If you ever get to the Liverpool-Southport area, I'll buy you a few pints!
