    There really is something calming about sitting in the north woods of Minnesota.

      There really is! The air is easier to breathe, it’s something else. Where do you like to get in the woods?

      They sure did! We miss them greatly. Thank you. Yes, Frank is a lucky guy, that son of a gun makes it look easy! I need to take a couple notes from their books.

      Appreciate it! Looking forward to this season, although the winter was pretty tough so I am not sure what survived. My dad has shot some big deer throughout the years though he’s not afraid to shoot a small buck either. All part of the fun and tradition at deer camp.

    Weather plays a crucial role during deer season

    • @arrowheadangler
      @arrowheadangler  Рік тому

      Definitely, we have had some really warm openers peppered in recent years! Need some cold clear mornings, get those deer moving. What cover do you hunt typically?

      @@arrowheadangler where I go in northern Wisconsin I go in county forest lands I go on a logging road that goes to a abandon lookout tower that has a trail I hope on a 4 wheeler and take the trail as far as it goes I don't like being but people I'm up in my tree stand by 5 am opening morning legal shooting hours start around 630 am people starting pulling between 530am and 6am those people going to there spots push deer my way but the last 11 years harsh winters and predators have taken a toll on deer heard

    • @arrowheadangler
      @arrowheadangler  Рік тому

      Yeah, winter plays a huge roll in deer population. The later winter goes the tougher it is on the animals. Even if the predator is removed most of the deer wont survive an extremely late winter with deep snow. Energy reserves are too low and body condition is poor. The deer/does that do survive typically do not produce young that survive. Takes many years for populations to rebound. In the area I hunt, deer population is around 4-6 per square mile (based on voyageurs estimates). I’m sure some areas have slightly higher densities and lower depending on habitat. I always remember to tell myself that where I am hunting, it is not really deer country so densities will always be low.

      Wheeler is about 18 miles through a lot of crap. Camp should probably get a couple argos.

      A fast trip if everything is frozen is about an hour- to hour and half. If it’s not frozen it can take about 3-4 hours maybe more if you get hung up.

    Have you ever considers getting those 2 way radios

    • @arrowheadangler
      @arrowheadangler  Рік тому +1

      I guess we might be able to use radios for after the harvest but it is illegal to use them during the hunt. MN does not allow communication while hunting (if it increases your chance to harvest an animal).
