Fishing Adventure at the Remote Lake - Part II
Our annual boys trip continues with yet another rainy day. We made the most of it catching a few walleyes, perch, bass, and northerns. With all the rain we were limited to just a few outings and spent a good majority of our time drying off. That said, the fish will still be active during periods of rain and storms. #fishing #camping #minnesota #cabin #catchandcook #walleye #bassfishing #bestfriend #deerstand #fish

    Good video. With your deer numbers down so bad it looks like Minnesota needs to open up a wolf hunting and trapping season. The wolves are eating all your deer. No deer equals fewer tags sold which will cost the state a bunch of money in tag sales and taxes from hunting equipment and supplies.

    • @arrowheadangler
      @arrowheadangler 5 днів тому

      Yes, I think the management of wolves should be taken into consideration. We also benefit from mild winters. Where we hunt we have always had wolves and good numbers of them. They ebb and flow with the deer population. That said, lots of other areas of the state are just recently seeing impacts from wolves. They can be managed safely and effectively with hunting and trapping that would at the very least relax the minds of those that absolutely hate wolves. I enjoy seeing wolves as where I hunt they are completely in their natural habitat with little to no human impacts on the ecosystem aside from logging.

      Michael, thanks for tuning in. I love grouse hunting and cut my teeth hunting them at the cabin. I have a few clips of some grouse hunting but not a dedicated video. With that in mind, I’ll put one together this fall. I miss not having a hunting dog. My lab is gun shy and though I’ve tried to take him hunting he’s pretty timid about the shots. Look for a grouse video this fall. Birds were plentiful but I didn’t see any broods this summer. Thinking the rain might have taken a lot. Here’s to hoping it’s another great year for the kings of the Northwoods. They are my favorite bird and are excellent table fare!

      I’d find any mid lake structure in 15-30’ of water and try slip bobbers or jigs. Leeches are pretty good this time of year. Otherwise you might have luck if you find shoreline cabbage in 8-10 feet of water and pull spinners with crawlers. Very effective this time of year for multiple species but walleyes can’t resist the crawlers in late July.

      I think the big misconception is handling the fish post cleaning. If you leave the skin and slime on and freeze I think they take on the “fishy flavor”. I just purchased a 10 acre camp in the U.P. from a group of older gentlemen who had it for over 20 years but lost two members and were unfortunately getting too old to enjoy it themselves. They bought it from a similar group that first built it in 1979. Some of the stories they shared with me were just awesome. I’m not a hunter, but many of my friends are, and I bought it to make memories with them and my family. When I was shopping, I found a beautiful remote camp only accessible by river and ultimately decided that it was just too remote for us and how we wanted to enjoy it. One thing I think preventing a lot of people from buying camps is the riding cost of real estate. The dream was almost out of reach for me as I’m sure it’s becoming for others…Covid really put a hurt on prices for off grid getaways.
