@@nazifarahman9198No it isn’t. It is the people who would go to extreme levels in the name of religion. I am from Kashmir (Indian Side) and the folk songs are still alive despite many people being Muslim. You know that Muslims can be Sufi?
Is Sufi indigenous to Kashmir specifically? Traditional doesn't mean folk songs only? Where are the nature binding revering rituals? Where is sharda script? Where is the reverence of local spirits and rivers? Where is the continuation of the knowledge of you bhats?
I wish there was a special like button for this documentary. The plot, the camera shots and angles, amazing candid dialogs and music - I felt like I came to know a new side of our music while the sadness of the current state of it. God bless Jawad & his team for such a documentary. There is a line at the end of the feature, something like - "love and music will live forever". I agree and so will this feature piece!

Luckily that part of the border has remained unaffected since partition and also unaffected by partition. Since it was in the desert, migrating to India only meant suicide in the deeper desert so the people stayed exactly where they were an exactly how they were. The Thar desert is soley and only the northern part of Rajasthan, just like an arm leftover of a larger body of the desert. Thar is Rajasthan. there is actually no difference except an imaginary live which exists only for humans, all the birds belonging to the area are there free to roam their huge desert.
It is beyond my range of words; I can use to praise this absolutely amazing piece of filming. Thankyou Jawad for documenting this. Arts in Pakistan as a WHOLE is thankful to you 💕💕💕

This beautiful film was clearly a labour of love by all those involved. Its powerful and very sad beginning where a handful of extremists try to stop musicians from performing. The journey alomg the Indus is beautifully covered from the north to the sea. It is sad how a few in the name of religion are trying to end the thousand year old culture of music of the Indus Valley. The resilience of musicians, their dedication to this art form is so well captured in this film. It is shameful the apathy of the State is doing nothing to save, promote and keep this culture and tradition of music and musicians. Thank you for this film. I am sharing it on social media.
Wow.. This is so powerful. These musicians spoke like scholars. They are way above any of us. It is so sad to see their current plight. Thank you for the documentary. Religious fanaticism will die, love and music will prevail.
At 1:09:20 When that ripe old man said that - Just when I had learnt to make the instrument, my master passed away and I felt I lost the whole world" and started shedding rhe tears, it suddenly hit a different note. Brilliant documentory. A simple like or comment would be a underserved way of showing the appreciation.
I don't know how I stumbled upon this but one of the best docs I've ever seen. Music speak for itself. I cried a few times. It's so freaking emotional in the best way possible. Long live desi music
Thanks for such an amazing documentary. Sad to see how this amazing art is dying. Amazed to see how similar are our instrument and notes but in my India the story is different. Lots of love to all the artists and instrument makers .
Well done! It is high time we gave respect to our cultural heritage, both folk and classical. Pakistan’s cultural heritage is beautiful, rich in quality and inspiring. It touches the soul. Well done Jawad Sharif!
I just came across this gem n I have no words to express how overwhelming it was to watch it. When the Ustad who plays borrendo says, that we are bound by norms of society. When ustadji playing Sarinda is stopped in the beginning of the movie. My heart aches and ustad sachu khan playing with his fellow musicians in the house courtyard. I could feel the pain in that music. I live in Punjab, India and while watching this movie, I felt like I am also part of that society which has done so much injustice to them. Though we are on this side of the border, what would have been their future in this country, where itself the folk music is dying . Pakistani music is doing wonders in the world. Every year coke studio is watched by millions of people. Why they are not coming forward to help these people.... I mean they should be part of it. Love and music never die, was said by one old man in the video. Music connects us to God, to another soul. Jawad Sharif took so much pain to search artists in every region of Pakistan. I had never seen many of these instruments ever in my life. Hoping for better future for all of them. 🙏
I am not sure how to express my feelings after watching this docu. Let's start with appreciation and happiness. Brilliant docu. Eceptional work by Jawad bhai and your team. Next, sad part. If any of these artists are forced to give up on their art then it's not just a loss to Pakistan only but a loss to entire humanity. It will prove that humanilty is chasing expensive but worthless pursuits and giving up on treasures of the world. The entire music world, disregarding the boudaries set-up by politicians, must come to the rescue of these artists and artisans. It may be painful but as rightly pointed out by a gentleman in this docu, perhaps more exposure of these artists to the western world, may help them and the art to survive. In my humble opinion, collaborations like Coke Studio, Nescafe Basement, Lahooti etc may also help by fusing these traditional folk music with modern musical art. I sincerely wish that more Pakistanis begins to appreciate these folk art and sees them as their own rather than that of their enemy's. And we, on this side of the barbed fence, will eagerly wait for such artists to flourish and have their work uploaded on SM platforms like UA-cam so that we too can enjoy such beauties. Salam and dua from India. Just to add. These are truly the art/music of god which takes years, if not decade to learn and master. In their own true word, they still learn.
Wonderful film! Occasions are so rare to see beautiful people of Pakistan! For those who never saw the film "Latcho Drom", please do! It's a 100% musical film, no dialogue. It starts in Rajasthan and travels all the way to Andaloucia in Spain. So in Indus Blues, the very colorful men dressed in orange, really reminded me of Rajasthan where it all started it seems like. We could really feel their "Gypsy" style. Yes narrow minded religious people are killing the beauty of humanity. Let's play music and dance!
It's not like a documentary, It's a loving message for all over the world that "music and love is the secret language of God." South Asia (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka)have so many sign of it. Take my bhakti and cordial love from my deepest core. Hasib from Bangladesh. ❤🙏
Soul stirring film. Sad to see the affairs in Pakistan, which shares so much cultural traditions with India and in India the same traditions are so cherished and flourishing. Hope that Pakistan too can flourish and so can our common heritage of folk music and dance.
Partition should not have happend, that was wrong and created wars, hatred with the excuse of religion! Love and Music are the only religion ppl should follow 🥰

Even at a distance of 5000 miles the music, people, places, and story it carries forth is almost a living experience. May it keep on reaching new audiences and keep revealing and perhaps even reviving the timeless culture which is still present behind the deafening nonsense of politics and religion. Thank you for making and sharing it!!
An extremely beautiful documentary taking us to the hallowed past which takes us into the simple lives of folk musician’s , and their instruments , sadly they are fighting to continue their simple lives of simple joys . It will be a sad day for humanity if sadly they are covered by the desert sands and lost to will be tremendous and sad loss to humanity if the future generation cannot get a chance to hear such melodious sound coming from these simple folk musician’s. This beautiful old traditional way of making music and instruments , passing on the canon and skills often only orally from the master to the novice is so incredibly fragile and precious. I hope Pakistan recovers from its current floods , its a beautiful and very valuable country ..
What a beautiful presentation of the, traditional instruments, the vanishing music and musical instruments. Pakistan is moving towards hell, created in the name of religion. I feel very sad about the dying traditional music. The documentary was heart' touching and feeling bad and full sympathy and moral support with the artists. Congratulations to the team who created this memorable documentary

After watching this documentary, I'm not sure whether I should be happy or sad. The majority of Pakistanis are unaware of the country's vibrant musical culture. Indus Blues is an accurate representation of our musical heritage. The type of struggle that folk musicians face, as well as the fear of losing their forefathers' art due to a lack of opportunities, elicits a wide range of emotions. Outstanding work! For me this serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting and elevating these talented folk/traditional musicians so that their rich musical heritage can be enjoyed by future generations.
Fantastic and very poignant film. As a fellow musician, though very far from Pakistan, I really felt the passion for the music of these people, and the sense of loss that was evident. A beautifully made and necessary documentary, congratulations to all concerned.

No one “stole”. Only two Muslim majority provinces Punjab and Bengal were divided. Those too on the behest of non Muslims. This was to cut down political power of Muslim majority. India used the same partition again after 1947 to cut down the power of Sikhs. Back in 1947 Every other province remained intact. Please avoid such hateful comments.
@@dharmayogaashram979 That’s the view of European colonizers. They couldn’t tell the difference between A) Hindu “inhabitants of Indus Valley Civilization (IVC)” irrespective of their religious practices. B) Hindu dharma that’s mainly linked to Ganga Valley Civilization (GVC). Same way for non-Europeans it is hard to tell the difference between the cultural and religious practices of Italians, Germans, Greeks, French, and British. So they just consider them one single culture/religion that is White/Christians. About Indian Subcontinent the same ignorance existed and outsiders considered everyone as just one single monolithic culture. Obviously that’s not true. Indian subcontinent’s history and human evolution is much older than Europeans so naturally there are more religions and distinct cultures. Once freed from European colonialism, this confusion has persisted unfortunately. To the point of ignorance, Indians today use English language and British views to spread their inferiority complex and do not feel proud of their GVC roots and insist upon placing themselves far away to IVC that’s 1000s of miles away. Peace love and respect 🙏🙏🙏
@@kdshak4904 if you think deeper you cannot always conflate culture and religion. The subcontinent was following Hindu Dharma with many cultural variations. The Dharma was in the Indus, Ganges to Tamil Nadu.
@@dharmayogaashram979 Off course culture is independent (mostly) of religion. Indus Valley has at least 5 unique languages and cultures. Majority of Tamils cannot speak any of those 5 languages. Same way IVC inhabitants do not speak and understand Tamil language. Nothing wrong with that. Just like we allow Italians to have their unique place in Europe and not conflate with the language, religion, and culture of Germans. That’s the respectful co-existence. Who denies such co-existence? Nazis and Hitler. In India too, some Indians have this despotic view where Tamils are not allowed to exist independently of Sindhu culture. Why because supposedly they were all “Hindu coreligionists” in a made up history. Sadly. Peace love and respect 🙏🙏🙏
It’s hard to put into words how deeply this documentary moved me. It feels like more than just a film-it's a masterpiece, a testament to the richness of this culture. Never seen a film after 'Latcho Drom (1993)' which was so attached to just music. Even Latcho Drom failed to portray a musicians real sorrow, real sufferings, real crying, this film do. Blessed, it's a milestone to me to witness some of the greatest musicians even to be born in our last planet for humankind. I wish to write a thousands of words on this film, on this musicians, on our thinking. Never know the philosophy of Jogi's, and basically there is no classical musicians who play been. Witnessed hundreds of thousands of musicians play flute, never seen anyone play been. It was like taboo to me until I've finished the film. Now, I can relate the yogi's philosophy. How the feed their baby snake's venom is unbelievably pure. Never know from where all of those instruments comes from, What they wanna tell to us, whether it is Baluchistan's land or Peshawar or the musicians heart that we torture's by our so called 'haram' term. Well, I have a question, 'is raining sound haram?'. I wish I were The great Akbar and make someone as Tansen II. I wish some art fellow will try to save them, I don't know how they survive in Sweden or Norway, because they born in their land, in their nature. And, the land gives them music, the wood and the water for instruments. But, we need to save them before all real jewel vanish! If I ever see a 'Murali been' classical musician in my lifetime, life will be blank less. and love will never die for sure. Nature won't survive without rain's music, wind's music, river's music, everything that ensembles them, how human will survive without music? We should save Music and Musicians along with their beloved instruments.
Your words-- your emotions means a lot. People like you are hope for us.. Thank you soo much.. Stay blessed.. Hope we cross path in life and you would experience and feel live Murli been 🙏🙏🙏

A most enlightening documentary. Thank you for all your efforts, hard work and, in spite of facing dangerous situations, having made this possible. God Bless ALL these musicians and others like them and their craft. Much Love from India 🙏🏼
This documentary is a rare look into the lives of musicians and craftsman who seem to have become the penultimate inheritors of these very unique instruments. It is heartbreaking to see their plight as they are the very Soul of the Sound that has fueled the imagination of our regions for Eons. The saddest misconception in Islam is this ongoing war against music, which was never there in the origins of Islam. The Prophet (PBUH) Himself attended gatherings where poetic recitation on valour and dirges were sung by his favourite poetess Al Khansa' to instrumental accompaniment in honour of her slain brothers. Music is what uplifts the Soul. This documentary is in the service of humanity worldwide. It touches one deeply. Much respect from me in India to everyone involved in its creation.
I have been witnessing all these melodies in my homeland, Sindh. But now I'm so disheartened beacuse many religious clerk have brainswahsed local people by declaring music Haram (forbidden). Thanks for this mesmerizing documentary.
A voice of reason film that in the name of music and its traditions speaks out against religious and political bigotry and intolerance as contrary to the basic nature of humankind. A documentary worthy of high honors.
Heart is crying to realize that these folk musical instruments are getting rare and one day These might be only found in Museums, but happy to watch all these together, and listening to them is the best experience in my life. Kudos and appreciation to the Jawad sir and the whole team for showing the culture and heritage of Pakistan. The main reason for the decline in music is the thought of connecting music with any religion and prohibiting it. It's our Indus Valley culture and we should own and feel proud of it. Stop blaming people the problem is Islam itself
Beautifully captured the essence of Indus culture, authentic portrayal of the musicians and folk Artists ! Thanks for sharing ! Love 🇮🇳

The left over arm unfortunately is Rajhistan not thar.

The sound design, the cinematography, I'm in awe, absolutely nailed it. Got so much to learn, keep bringing such stories.

Buhat buhat shukriyaa... Means a lot jee
Thank you so much for your kind words. Love from Pakistan

This is easily the best documentary I've seen in years. Astoundingly focused, beautifully structured and deeply touching. Even at a distance of 5000 miles the music, people, places, and story it carries forth is almost a living experience.
Dear Aimen, Thank you so much for your kind words and acknowledgment.

@@kdshak4904 the Indus valley was the original homeland of the (H)indus.
@@dharmayogaashram979
That’s the view of European colonizers. They couldn’t tell the difference between
A) Hindu “inhabitants of Indus Valley Civilization (IVC)” irrespective of their religious practices.
@@dharmayogaashram979
Off course culture is independent (mostly) of religion.
Every frame is like a painting, each shot crafted with such grace that it stirred emotions I didn’t even know were there. It’s rare to experience something that resonates so deeply, but this documentary did just that. It touched my soul, and I’m filled with nothing but admiration and love for the culture it so beautifully portrays.
