The Dubai Frame is an architectural landmark in Zabeel Park, Dubai. It has been described by The Guardian newspaper as "the biggest picture frame on the planet”, however is also controversial as the "biggest stolen building of all time.”
The project was conceived by Fernando Donis,and selected as the winner of a design competition by the Government of Dubai. It is alleged that the designer had his intellectual property stolen and was denied credit for the design. It holds the record for the largest frame in the world.
The Dubai Frame is created out of glass, steel, aluminum, and reinforced concrete. It is positioned in such a way that representative landmarks of modern Dubai can be seen on one side, while from the other side, visitors can also view older parts of the city. The Frame opened in January 2018.
Your stint with Dubai Frame begins from the mezzanine wherein you will walk through a museum cum gallery that takes you through Dubai's humble beginnings as a Bedouin fishing village.
One of the most talked-about features of Dubai Frame is the transparent glass walkway that runs along the 150m-high Sky Deck. Aside from being an engineering marvel with super-reinforced glass panels, the walkway also boasts a world-first - pressure-sensitive liquid crystal technology, which allows the glass to turn from opaque to transparent the moment someone steps on it. This unique effect makes the trip across the walkway even more dramatic.
You might be struck by Dubai Frame's elegant proportions and the natural balance to its shape. That's because it was designed to be a golden rectangle, which is a shape that follows the mathematical golden ratio of 1:1.618. This means that if you divide a golden rectangle into a square and a rectangle, the smaller rectangle is also a golden rectangle. The Dubai Frame perfectly reflects this striking geometric concept, which has fascinated mathematicians for millennia.
Very well worth a visit and an afternoon out. Kids below 3 and elderly get in for free. First Time Visit to The Dubai Frame. Been to nearly all the Dubai attractions including the Burj Khalifa, and this one is definitely great value for money. Everyone should visit the place.
