This song has a lot of political layers to it that you should definitely look into. BTS were almost blacklisted by the government of that time because of this song.
@MiekoNeko because bts called out government officials in this song especially Suga's verse. it was when the former president was still in power and any artist who spoke ill of the government or its decisions were blacklisted. During this time the government was surpressing people who criticised them by putting them on a blacklist and bts went and performed this explicitly critical song despite the huge risk. Fortunately that president was impeached.
They stay almost getting blacklisted honestly 😂😂 since their debut they haven’t cared and wanted to put out honest music and I truly admire their integrity

Just last week my daughter played this for me and I about flipped out. I told her it had a southern vibe and was wondering how they got that sound. Now seeing from comments that it almost got them blacklisted can't wait to read about it. There's so many layers to BTS I'm not surprised to read about this being controversial. I love that BTS has never been afraid to call out things and convey deeper messages in their music. I mean literally their debut era is all about how it's okay to not have a dream yet, calling out how school sometimes feels monotonous and like you're being controlled and navigating teenage/young adult feelings like love, angst etc. This song and dance are so slept on and I'm glad y'all are finally watching it! It's one of me and my nephew's favorites! 💜💜

His soulful voice and this song were a match made in heaven for this remix done by the boys. I think it's a mega hit that didn't get the exposure it deserves, and definitely needs to have a revival. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've fanned out to fave performers whose bodies are in touch with their music since MJ, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, MC Hammer, etc. Not only are their live vocals insane, their choreography is so deeply on point, but my guy Jimin... Love how he looks at his body as if it's moving on its own and has taken him by surprise... And my guy RM... Love his playful nods and winks. It gets me every time.
This song has always been under rated. And it's a bop, it's always been one of my faves. How can a song like this go under the radar you ask? BTS' discography is amazing.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many of their sociopolitical songs are still relevant today.
It's kinda sad, actually, how their messages in these type of songs never lost relevance even after all these years; some of their initial references in the songs may have been addressed, but new events take place and the songs become applicable to those events too (especially today). It's frustrating to see how some things just won't change and how some things just regress. 😑

This song is a very politically driven one, basically criticizing the Korean government on how corrupt it is and many other layers deeper than that. This song actually almost got BTS blacklisted by the government because they called the government out on their bs basically.
The amount of Diss and Shade in this song is INSANE. You guys definitely have to look into the meaning behind this song I guarantee it will blow your minds!

I wasn't sure if you noticed but the sample of the person singing Am I Wrong? When it wasn't them, was Keb' Mo'. He is an American blues musician and five-time Grammy Award winner. He is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter, living in Nashville, Tennessee. He has been described as "a living link to the seminal Delta blues that travelled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America". His post-modern blues style is influenced by many eras and genres, including folk, rock, jazz, pop and country.
His parents were from Louisiana and Texas, and he was instilled with a great appreciation of the culture from both places. I thought you'd like to know that Blaze. My mom really loves his music so I actually recognized his voice when it started. I was so excited that they did a song with some of his music and were able to show appreciation for the type of music.

This bop right here is one of their highly political songs-not just in the lyrics but in the context (2016 Korean political landscape) it was released in. You can’t really see these layers and nuances in lyric videos. I suggest you look into ARMY translations and interpretations to really immerse yourself in the genius of their music. 😁 Look into muish ramblings, doolsetbangtan and doyoubangtan (wisha) even if only off-cam. Getting to know their songs, I mean really getting to know them, is an entire rabbit hole in itself. It will certainly add on beautifully to your ARMY journey. 😊
