One day about 10 years ago, I pulled into a gas station to pump gas. Someone had left a little sticker on the gas pump that said, "Read Chomsky." I knew who he was, but put it off. But one day, I bought a Chomsky book & have been a fan ever since. We need more intellectuals like him, who are willing to do the research & educate the rest of us.

@JimboParadox Chomsky never says that you should believe him just because he has studied a certain topic. On the contrary. He says: do not believe me. Go and study this topic for yourself. Chomsky offers advice and ideas. But he would not want you to accept any idea just because it comes from him. His point is: do not just accept what other people tell you. Go and and find out for yourself! Think for yourself!
@JimboParadox but the interesting is that you won't find Chomskys information anywhere else without some rigourous research of your own. and i mean reading several books from authors you didn't know existed from back 200 years ago and then analyzing the impact of their ideas (which you have to understand fully, and compare with traditional developments of the time) with data avaiability from the time as well, and then do this until today. With the fact that alot of the works of scholars that have influence on policy makers on all the major empires in history are simple propaganda, written to convince sectors of their respective countries population that "this is the way foward" while some more technical works indeed carry out the frankness of their methods, whatever they were, makes the task even more daunting at a second glance. So you can see what chomsky is (at least to me). He seems to be a translator between gargantuan amounts of information of which i would have no hope (let alone training) to go through in my lifetime, and my life experience. and i personally think thats very valuable. yes there are biases, thats how the world seems to work on the human level, but damn the amount of sources he cites on most of his lectures and books gives you a direction to begin doing your own research if you have that time. Per example, most of his "opinion" on the imperialistic nature present in the founding of the USA comes straight from the mouth (or pen) of the founding fathers.
Everyone should listen to Noam Chomsky's lectures, debates and interviews and read his books. He is a truly brilliant man who has uncovered the truth behind the current world order.

I think you answered my question anyway during the rest of this video. I think I forgot the answer and had to re learn it. That is how insidious the social programming is. The answer is education. And not just in a class room. In life. Point it out as you do, discuss it, show examples, discuss. But still, what do we do about it? How can we fight ourselves?
Thankyou. Im Australian, but not only does America play a large role in our affairs, what Chomsky speaks about is world wide. All Countries can learn from this brilliant man. He makes me proud to be human.

Everyone is busy today running around. The. Neighbourhoods are empty in the day because people are trying too hard to bite a chuck of what the 1% has. Fancy Vacations, Monster homes, Designer clothes, fancy cars..etc, We have become an external world. If the 99% focused on each other the tables could be reversed to an abundant world for all. Policies would change, people would see the miracles in giving and be happy like our parents before us. Because More never made anyone happy. Great talk, thanks for uploading. Learned, committed, analytical, principled. The mention of Jonathan Rose's book The Intellectual Life of the British Working Classes is great. Seeing this play out right now. Under Michigan’s Emergency Financial Act, the state has the ability to step-in and help out public schools when they have repeatedly tested poorly (MEAPS etc). Michigan’s plan involves privatizing education. A charter school system set the standard for education and received state money for doing so. This eliminates the democratic process (involving OUR EDUCATION) for communities. It also shifts accountability from the state. The impact on teachers and children is severe. It jeopardizes the future of communities that continue to cycle through poverty. Our schools are becoming more segregated, education should serve as an opportunity--the great equalizer....Michigan's Emergency Financial Act is a double-edged sword, it helped us get out corruption like Detroit's Kwame, but the wording and the power it gives should cause more concern.

Exactly. His words resonant with Richard Stallman's saying schools should not use proprietory software. Large corporations give discounts to even gratis software to schools so the students are learned/addicted to giving up their control to corporations controlled software. Blackboard/Banner/Microsoft products/Apple products. Schools should absolutely use free softwares only. (free as in freedom, not free beer).
I understand you message, but there are many variables to that topic. "Freedom" for a half-dozen companies to secretly agree rig prices artificially high (contradicting the concept of free market competition) is a freedom some industrialists strive for.

Speaking of Insurance, in my Canadian province our Auto insurance is Provincial Government run, they actually gave money back because there was a surplus, also the rates are cheaper than Private insurance in the next Province. Sometimes Privatising is better, our liquor stores used to be Government run and it was ok except the hours were inconvienient, now that its privatised its much better for the consumer. What happened to the John Houston Film Grant? I was admitted to that Grant program where a choosen few were admitted to the "new Film Major" at Bennington College. Thank for your reply. I agree that we will always have those who "can" yet "won't" succeed or attain independence. But the current state of things is making it hard for even the well educated to find or keep good jobs. The mortgage crisis was fueled largely by eased regulations and greed, and states like California are paying for it by cutting funds from various areas. We can't base our values and ideas for success on what robber barons did a century ago, but privatizing ed. is no the way.
He’s right about college. Massive scam, hundreds of thousands of dollars a semester from student tuition and still shitty registration software, limited staff to handle things like financial aid inquiries and bureaucratic management. But goddamn don’t the trees and stadium look nice!
It should be common knowledge that we have had a tripartite system for some decades in Britain, without a hint of conspiracy in sight. When Great Britain was still a formidable industrial force globally, there was a demand for literate workers. Enter the comprehensive school.
Finally, the owner/capitalist masters would have been educated at the top private schools such as Eton, Harrow or Gordonstoun. Counter intuitively Comprehensive schools have fared better than expected and there has been a paradigm shift as a consequence.
We need to get back to the working class education of the nineteenth century!!!!!!!!!!!! It was an education of working people who educated themselves to rise up. How much we have been dumbed down...
Although I think the state of private education is still much better than public education, many private sector schools are turning into businesses.I was in the same situation with teaching adult education. For me, the problem wasnot somuch that people could not construct sentences, but that they could not think critically inany sense of the word. Any teacher who insisted that a student fail a course wouldbe blamed for said failure and would ultimately be let go if they had principles, as i did.
It gets pretty easy to keep a secret with a passive population lost in denial, fearing the truth and the responsibilities that come with being aware of the truth. #PsychOps.

He is fantastic, and so right on.. if only he got press, like NPR and PBS.. only Democracy Now! gives him press..
"Freedom" for
a half-dozen companies to secretly agree rig prices artificially high (contradicting the concept of free market competition) is a freedom some industrialists strive for.
The talk was at St. Philip's Church of Harlem in New York City,
Chomsky urged we read The Lewis Powell Memo: A Corporate Blueprint to Dominate Democracy
Here it be: www.greenpeace.org/usa/democracy/the-lewis-powell-memo-a-corporate-blueprint-to-dominate-democracy/
I say try it and if it doesnt work change it till it does.
I love you Chomsky...and I really love the eagle podium!
I love the fact that he's such a boring speaker with his monotone but the content of his message is astounding.
What happened to the John Houston Film Grant? I was admitted to that Grant program where a choosen few were admitted to the "new Film Major" at Bennington College. The only reason for me attend that collage. The money was taken away, with no explanation... I gave up hope and was fortunate enough to Transfer to the Eugene Lang Collage at the New School for Social Research. Where I discovered academics. I am actially angry at having my hopes dashed on the program that was The John Houston Grant. For no explanation, cancelled. Then Bennington
"College" reverted to being well known to be the school with a Dressed to Get laid" policy. If you love your children/child don't make the mistake of sending them off to Bennington just because it is the only Collage they could get into or entered into because acceptance was based on their abilitiy to pay full tuition. Mark these words...
just about anywhere else is far more desirable than destroying and mis- consturing ambition... for want, as oppose to , success.

I didn't know that Chomsky gave a talk in Harlem
He is correct about England. Hence how the government is so dark and underhand to this day.
6:30 New York Times reported wage slavery was no different from slavery
200 years ago they may have considered wage jobs similar to slavery but that only tells something about how wage workers were treated at the time.
You make an asinine and ignorant assumption and attempt to offer wisdom based on such. Terrifying.
>"You make an asinine and ignorant assumption and attempt to offer wisdom based on such. Terrifying."
@@TheSelfHelpTube You got that triggered and yet you provide no counter argument. Looks like my comment was spot. It is without question that the working conditions for wage jobs in the western world have increased since the 18th century. It cannot be called slavery anymore. You can call it unfair if you want.
Back in reality, you've been disproven and dismissed. Imbecile.
@@TheSelfHelpTube Back in reality people don't consider wage jobs slavery, you raisin brain. You have only proven you can whine.
Further, there was a demand for educated managers of the workers and grammar schools, and smaller private schools, would have fulfilled the need for those of higher education to oversee the work of the proletariat.
this issue was existing throughout the entire cold war but americans prefered defending the rich.
I suspect from the Video Description St. Philip's Church of Harlem with help of Rev. Rhonda Rubinson.
The corporate model needs to be abolished.
I did a youtube search on chomsky, 9/11.
There's actually a pretty good bit of his opinion...
Noam Chomsky - When Elites Fail, and What We Should Do About It, Oct. 2, 2009
hear near the end.

Literally every Noam Chomsky video I've seen lately has the glitch on mobile where the comments/recommended videos do not scroll
For what ever reason i am able to listen to Prof. Chomsky better then in the past? It seems he is not carrying on three conversations at once. He use to get side tracked and divert from the main context intended or am I just listening now with more focus?
Thank for your reply. I agree that we will always have those who "can" yet "won't" succeed or attain independence. But the current state of things is making it hard for even the well educated to find or keep good jobs. The mortgage crisis was fueled largely by eased regulations and greed, and states like California are paying for it by cutting funds from various areas. We can't base our values and ideas for success on what robber barons did a century ago, but privatizing ed. is no the way.
hahaha...that eagle! :)
German Eagle, I was thinking the same.
He’s right about college. Massive scam, hundreds of thousands of dollars a semester from student tuition and still shitty registration software, limited staff to handle things like financial aid inquiries and bureaucratic management. But goddamn don’t the trees and stadium look nice!
Dumbledore... is that you?
It should be common knowledge that we have had a tripartite system for some decades in Britain, without a hint of conspiracy in sight. When Great Britain was still a formidable industrial force globally, there was a demand for literate workers. Enter the comprehensive school.
Finally, the owner/capitalist masters would have been educated at the top private schools such as Eton, Harrow or Gordonstoun. Counter intuitively Comprehensive schools have fared better than expected and there has been a paradigm shift as a consequence.
Would this be a bad time to point out that the AP reported today that Cubans do a ton of crack a day?
Bingo, bang, spot on exactly. Problems with "new spirit" ideology articulated in a nutshell. 35:03
Any teacher who insisted that a student fail a course wouldbe blamed for said failure and would ultimately be let go if they had principles, as i did.
insightful as always :)
It gets pretty easy to keep a secret with a passive population lost in denial, fearing the truth and the responsibilities that come with being aware of the truth. #PsychOps.
