      Three ship names:
      for HMS Sydney (ww 2) "Waltzing Matilda".
      For Warspite: "Ironman" by AC DC
      For Kamchatka "Evil Woman"
      There is a Sea Shanty called "The Dreadnought"
      You should do a video on sea shanties. I suspect one or more recording labels would be very happy to work with you since it should open their door to a very large audience.

      On your comments concerning Lion blowing up at Jutland, you make the assumption events still follow what happened historically. There is another possibility. Looking at the ship locations at that point, it seems very likely that at least the two Derflingers would immediately concentrate on the Princess Royal and they were the German ships doing the worst killing. It is likely in the confusion following Beatty's promotion to the "here after" that the three battlecruisers would not reverse course quickly. In that scenario Princess Royal is very vulnerable to follow here sisters, . Evan -Thomas was too far back to see what was happening and probably would not order an immediate withdrawal until he grasps the disaster. Also, the official policy on minimal radio use would now create a huge problem for both Evan Thomas and Jellicoe. Only full reports by radio could clarify the disaster for both Admirals but would the surviving ships use them freely enough to give an accurate picture in time to save the survivors? I suspect that Princess Royal would be crippled and eventually sunk before command is clarified and control asserted. I also suspect we would know the true strength of the mystical powers protecting New Zealand. Hipper's ships were largely intact at that point and fully capable. New Zealand was not that fast and there is the real possibility she could not reach 5th Battle Squadron in time. In addition, more German ships would be freed of having to dodge British shells as each RN ship went down and thus their gunnery improves. Hipper will press home his attack.
      I think the most likely scenario is Princess Royal succomes before they can reverse course under fire from Lutzow, Derfflinger. and Seydlitz. New Zealand is hit badly in a hail of gunfire and is crippled or dies in another magazine explosion. Since Tiger hit nothing, she will continue to hit nothing but will be able to open the range and reach 5th Battle Squadron. The real question is what happens when 5th Battle Squadron appears and the disaster of the RN Battlecruisers is finally understood by Evan Thomas? Is Jellicoe forced to break radio silence and his fleet detected by the Germans? Evan Thomas will collect what is left of Beatty's command and but would he head north immediately if the scouts have still not seen the High Seas fleet approaching? And in the confusion of command breakdown, would the scout report get to Evan Thomas before he is forced to engage? I think it is possible windy corner happens as historically due to command breakdown., but would the Germans actually follow to the North? Your assumption is Scheer would pursue, but I would actually suggest he would not. First, the goal of the operation was to kill the battlecruisers and and they just did it. Hipper would have won a glorious victory, but faced with the QE's, his ships would be in trouble. And the slower High Seas dreadnoughts won't be able to catch up. Hipper would pull back out of QE gunnery range and report back to Scheer and the high command. And it is likely Jellicoe wold be forced to actively break radio silence to find out what was going on and thus be found. The cooling off would probably lead to German orders to return to base. For Hipper, it is the greatest glory to head home. For Scheer, it is vindication of his plans even though he never sees the British navy. Jellicoe would be just far enough back that he can't catch the German fleet. I suspect the Invincibles would join Tiger and 5th Battle Squadron in a pursuit and harassment attack. Given historical fact it would not surprise me to see Invincible or one of her sisters also be lost with Jellicoe then ordering the battlecruisers to disengage. And I think 5th battle squadron does inflict serious damage on the German screen, but not enough to alter the balance of numbers. I would guess the QE's take enough real damage to vindicate their armor and design. Nothing will change strategically, but it will shake things up and it will dip British moral just before the Somme.
      Post Jutland, the Renowns are immediately given a major rebuild to increase armor to 12" with real decks and blistering reducing speed to 29/30 knots. The Admiral class gets a high priority boost, very rapid redesign to enlarged QE's and all get built. The G3's get built as fast battleships. Tiger will get an overhaul that increases her armor to fast battleship status though she is now an odd duckling. The Invincibles and Australia are then heavily restricted in missions. And the oddest ducklings of all (Furious, Glorious and Courageous) never get turrets and head toward carriers immediately.
      I think you will see both IJN and USN both move toward fast battleships and drop the Amagi and Lexington concepts. And that would have interesting impacts on future carrier development, probably slowing things by 15-+ years.

    As far as replacing a cruiser from WW2 with a modern CGN, I'd be tempted to replace USS San Diego, an Atlanta class cruiser that had almost as many battle stars as Enterprise, with 18. Better AA and radar might have done quite a bit to help save Hornet, which Dan Diego was escorting at the time.

    While it could be a bad omen since nothing is truly this, "Indestructible" by EXILE fits well even lyrically for a ship name. (Yes, I know that's not the full title of the English version of the Street Fighter IV theme, and yes, it's cheesy pop. Still love it.) For a carrier that always arrives in time to save people, "Winged Hussars".
    For a ship meant to cause chaotic mass destruction: "World Eater" by Bolt Thrower. Ship's motto: "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"

    2:12:48 If a treaty enforced only two main gun turrets of X size, I wonder if that would lead to earlier quad turrets or Tillman style six-barrel turrets. Imagine a Pre-Dreadnought style ship with quad (or bigger) turrets fore and aft. Or maybe it would alternatively lead to Dunquerke/Richilieu style ships much sooner.

    The US taking on the world in 1902? There would have been a hilarious number of USN 8" and 12" guns blowing up, because BuOrd did not understand the dynamics of smokeless powder and did not design the chases of the guns strong enough. Iowa blew up two of it's 8" guns on the same day in target practice. A modification program to reinforce the guns was started in 1906. Then add in the many explosions in USN guns and turrets that occurred in that era due to the lack of an air purge system to blow embers out of the tube before reloading and the complete lack of flash doors in the turrets and hoists.

      this is the Long version: in 1880 Helmuth von Moltke the Elder wrote "Eternal peace is a dream, and not even a beautiful one. War is part of God's world-order." The US hailed him as the new messiah and a new political party based on eternal war takes hold of the us congress 1890 with the aim to turn America into a munitions factory to conquer everyone. Alfred Thayer Mahan's book (1892) on naval influence convinces the us to fully invest in naval power. Many new ports and construction yards are created/expanded to facilitate the building of a huge navy. the Spanish American war(1898) sets America's sites on all of Europe leading to the America vs the world war of 1902 lead by Eternal Warlord of the Americans, Theodore Roosevelt. Can America, defeat everyone with their all out effort? What would the battles look like in the massive fleet actions resulting from this?
      i was rather drunk that night =p maybe buord could be the first target of the eternal war, they deserve it and were close enough to an enemy anyway right?

    its the S-class attack submarine actually with 62 actually, followed by the E-class attack submarine with 58, the Triton class or T-Class attack submarine with 53, the U-class attack submarine in 4th with 49 and 5th is the H-class attack submarine with 42 but ironically the

    • @kemarisite
      @kemarisite 3 роки тому +1

      I suspect poorly. The German 8" guns dramatically outrange the 5.25" guns and have an actual AP shell that should penetrate the Dido's armor at reasonable ranges. The 5.25" only has a semi-armor piercing (SAP) shell, which might only be able to penetrate the Hipper's armor within about 10,000 yards. The Dido would need to try to swamp the Hipper with HE to damage fire control before the Hipper starts getting hits, but again the Dido's guns are significantly outranged.

      At night, a Dido would likely do very well against Hipper class.

    • @kemarisite
      @kemarisite 3 роки тому

      @@MrTScolaro I feel like that could use some elaboration. At night, the side with radar can (depending on the radar) have a significant advantage over one without radar, but the Hipper-class will almost certainly have radar as well. As I understand it, the advantage of centimeter-wave radar over meter or decimeter-wave radar is more a matter of fine discrimination (picking up a periscope, say, or picking a ship up against the backdrop of an island). On the open ocean in the north Atlantic or North Sea, I'm not sure the Dido's radar would be a huge advantage, as the Hipper should still detect it early enough to take advantage of its longer range. Among the islands of the Aegean or south Pacific, the opening range might be short enough for the Dido's 5.25 SAP shells to make it through the Hipper's armor protection and for torpedoes to have a reasonable chance to hit, but any 8" hits will go right through the Dido's armor and the Hipper has torpedoes too.

    • @MrTScolaro
      @MrTScolaro 3 роки тому

      @@kemarisite In general I believe Axis radar was inferior. Japanese radar was next to useless (e.g. the sinking of the Kongo) and I am underwhelmed by the performance of German naval radar. For example, Scharnhorst in her last battle barely hit anything. Conversely allied fire control radar, particularly after 1942 was excellent. It is quite likely Hipper would be unable to hit Dido at night. Remember, it is not just discovering there is a target there, but it is also converting that information into an effective firing solution. The allies had superior radar but that advantage was nowhere near as great as the overwhelming advantage the allies had in director technology where radar information is converted into a firing solution.
      Maybe you know better than I do, but I am pretty much unaware of any German surface combatant hitting an enemy with a torpedo.

    On the topic of the German Navy naming stuff, their base in Kiel has recently decided to rename several bits from "Tirpitz" and "Scheer" to Gorch Fock and Oskar Kusch.
    www.bundeswehr.de/de/organisation/marine/aktuelles/umbenennungen-marine-kiel-wik-5012342 (They don't have their news in English as well, unfortunately.)
    But yeah, these days our ships are named geographically (states for frigates, cities for corvettes and other stuff, major rivers for tenders, islands for tugs) or animals (older auxiliaries). Naming anything important after "great" admirals and such is way too much of a minefield considering our history.

    • @Betrix5060

    • @rolfs2165
      @rolfs2165 3 роки тому

      @@Betrix5060 You're not wrong, but:
      it was up to the sailors stationed there, and they no longer identified with those two. And unless you're interested in military and naval history, WW1 and WW2 are starting to blur together into "not a good time", especially after our current gen neo-nazis got the Imperial war ensign banned (the Nazi war ensign already was, so they used the Imperial one as "replacement" at their marches).
      I'd also wager they wanted to set a sign by naming one jetty after a u-boat commander who was executed for speaking his mind too freely - which was a problem because he was against Hitler, the Nazis, and the war. The army has had problems with neo-nazis and other far-rights in their ranks ever since we dropped military service.
