FELIP's "Bulan" is a powerful song inspired by Filipino mythology and personal experiences, tackling themes of resilience, overcoming negativity, and celebrating cultural heritage. Here's a breakdown of its meaning: Mythological Inspiration: Bulan itself refers to the Tagalog god of the moon, known for his strength and defiance. The song uses him as a metaphor for the artist's own journey, facing doubts and criticism. References to other deities and creatures like Bakunawa (mythical serpent) and Aswang (vampires) add to the atmosphere and symbolism. Overcoming Negativity: Crab mentality is a key theme: the tendency for others to pull down those who rise above the crowd. Felip challenges this, urging listeners to stay true to themselves and not be consumed by negativity. Lyrics like "Hinahatak pababa, pero ako'y lilipad pa'taas" (They drag me down, but I will fly higher) and "Sa hangin ng inggit, ako'y lalong tatatag" (The wind of envy makes me stronger) emphasize his determination to persevere. Cultural Celebration: The song and its music video are filled with Filipino imagery and elements, showcasing the beauty and richness of the country's folklore and traditions. Felip hopes to spark interest in ancient Filipino mythology, especially among younger generations, and encourage dialogues about cultural heritage. Overall, "Bulan" is a complex and layered song that offers both personal messages and cultural insights. It's a call to embrace one's identity, rise above negativity, and celebrate the strength and beauty of Filipino heritage.
There is a BTS of this MV. A vlog from Felip’s channel. How he requested Stell to sing the opening music, how he conceptualize everything. And watch Casual Chuck’s video on his channel explaining the story of this Filipino mythology about Bulan, as depicted here in Felip’s Bulan MV. There is a dope story behind all this. Then watch and react on his dance practice video of Bulan too.
FELIP always makes sure he drops quality and well-thought mv's from Palayo, Bulan, Rocksta, Straydogs, Kanako and his latest Fake Faces. Can't wait for the release of his international album in Japan this coming July 5th. So proud of him. Thank you for your rv.
I'm still amazed on how Felip composed Bulan. The lyrics, melody and this mv is really fire! i wonder what his thought process that he came up with this song!
Hello My Catalog it was STELL voice chanting the intro and background voice. Stell executed that chanting one take! Bulan was nominated in Grammy. Bulan is one of the folklore story if Philippines. Felip/Ken is killing that song 🎵. Bulan is one of my favorite song of Felip. ❤❤❤
Felip's very unique voice, strong, hard, commanding, but so good to the ears. Bulan (moon god) and Haliya (moon goddess) are siblings. Bulan i think was saved by haliya from the moon eating dragon. Bulan became mortal (human) and forgot about his past.
Bulan is also means Moon in Bisaya which is the dialect of Ken and also mine 😊. Felip/Ken is unique in any ways. He is very artistic. He can do if not all, almost all genre.
Just to give a context on Ken's wardrobe on the first part of the vid: if you would read Philippine history, before we became Catholics we were Muslims. The head of each region was called a Datu and they wore something like that of Felip's with his long hair. So that was a pre colonial clothing. The Bakunawa is a serpent-like dragon in Philippine mythology. It is believed to be the cause of eclipses, earthquakes, rains, and wind. He was fascinated with the moon being so shiny and bright that's why he ate all the 6 siblings of Bulan and he was able to defeat it. So the song depicts that Bakunawa is something or someone that pulls you down.😊
Felip as a dancer incorporates krumping in his song. He write and produces his own songs. He can play guitar, piano and drums. Felip is also a Ouido. He has the ability to play a song on any musical instrument after. listening to it a couple of times and without reading the. notes.
This is my favourite of Felip's solos so far. It just feels like a very complete vision - music, lyrics, MV, choreo. All of it ties in together seamlessly.
The beat was co-produced by Josue. I really recommend you guys to react Bulan Behind The Scenes on next live chat. There are 3 parts. Part 1 is the Making of the song & Recording process. It's around 5 or 6 mins long video. You can see Josue and Pablo were on frame helping the recording. Part 2 is the MV making. Part 3 is Felip reaction video to the drafts of Bulan MV from offline edit, color grading until online edit.
He did explain it is so hard to dance on the sand easy to get tired and dangerous because you sink in and lose your balance. The live band version is the best also in YT
It's boolahn. 13:25 they have show break videos wherein they play act, but it's more on comedy, goofing around. gosh this RV just made me more crazy about Felip's voice and style. LOVE your RV's (but i watch your SB19/member solos content only lol). Thank you for this ❤️🔥 28:28 LOVE what you said about Ken and the rest of SB19, thanks ND
Busan's story is actually a Native Mythology way before the arrival of the Europeans in the Philippines. Bulan is one of the 7 moon gods ( 6 of them were eaten by the serpent dragon due to it's jealousy of the brightness of the moon), Bulan remained alive but protected by his sister Haley (moon goddess). He was transformed to a human boy by his sister to be fully protected. He eventually realized who he really was, then the serpent realized who he'd become and would come eat him also and all along Haliya would keep on fighting the serpent dragon, hence, the blood moon (which symbolizes Haley's wounds) to protect Bulan. Philippines has so many amazing mythology stories. Btw, it was Stell's voice he used for the chanting.
Thank you for supporting Felip solo.pls next check he's solo performance at ppopcon 2023 is dope & also pagtatag female day2 female Felip playing with intro.thank so much.🤗👍💞💜💜💜more blessing to ur channel.🥰🥰🥰

It's Felip's Bulan's 2nd Anniversary, What a coincidence you featured Bulan. Please watch and react to BULAN dance practice. Felip is good at krumping.
If you read the disclaimer, you will get the idea on the concept. Felip wanted to bring forth lost mythological stories that were lost in the colonial eras. He wants the youth to start discussing this and rediscover our history. An amazing vision. Bulan is the name of one of Moon gods, there are 7, Haliya is the sister. Definitely check out Cashual Chucks video about Bulan, just amazing! Don’t miss it, the MV will even make more sense to you! The Dance Practice for Bulan is also another performance to watch, Krumps style dancing. Stell is the one who did the intro vocals 🔥❤️🖤🔥
There is a documentary of how Bulan was made. How FELIP composed the lyrics and the beats. and the recordings as well. The chant background is Stell's voice.
The first who's singing was stell while BULAN and HALIYA was both moon god they were siblings and to know more Check the backstory of bulan on cashual chuck titled BULAN IS PROOF OF SB19's DARK OBSESSION 💚
Thank you again for reacting felip song.. I love you all guys the way you react we also catch lesson ....and thank you so much all your appreciation to our boys sb19
Haliya is Bulan's (twin) sister; thus, she is the moon goddess. I believe this is part of pre-colonial Philippine mythology, long before the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines. These stories have already been passed on for many generations so they were not influenced by Western mythology (Greek/Roman mythology). Sadly, we studied more about Greek and Roman mythology in schools than the pre-colonial Filipino mythology so a lot of young Filipinos are not aware of the latter. It's for this reason that FELIP chose to use the story of Bulan in his music - to create an awareness about our culture, incl our pre-colonial mythology, to the Filipino youth.
This song actually talks about crab mentality and how other people try to tear down those who are trying to pursue their dreams,.as well as served as self-empowerment, especially in difficult situations..accdg. to felip himself,. "Bulan" talks about recognizing that powerful being within you and not letting other people consume your light. It shows the darker, more confrontational side of self-love. Because sometimes, the negativity gets too loud to ignore and the only way to get rid of it is to acknowledge the power that you hold and face it head-on.👌🔥
1.In Philippine folklore, Bulan is revered as the deity presiding over the moon, one of the three celestial gods honored by the ancient Bicolano people. Alongside him are the supreme god Gugurang, associated with fire, and his brother Haliya, who embodies the moon. -from google 2. Stell sang the intro part. Ken asked him to do it.
Their bond and respect for each are the reasons they complimented as a group despite each individual differences. And also the two important things, they have the same mindset and goal. That's what the driving force comes from.
Felip's BULAN always sparks discussions. This song is a story about the Philippines' pre-colonial history and myths. BULAN is one of Felip's best. He even performed it at the Grammys Global Spin. Please also check out Felip's CRIMINAL and DRINKSMOKE official visualizer from his COM.PLEX EP. You won't regret it. It's dope!
The intro was the voice of Stellvester Ajero because Felip asked him to do the freestyle chant and all the chants in the song . Thank you my catalog for this RV. God bless🙏
Haliya (the moon goddess) is Bulan's sister. Bulan has 7 other siblings since the moon has 7 phases. All the other siblings (except Haliya) were eaten by the Bakunawa (the dragon in the mv) because of their light.
Palayo being his debut single and this being the second is really impressive. History would say like we were like some barbaric country when we already have a flourishing culture before them. Recent discoveries like those gold accesories that were so intricate they were all pre-spanish. These mythological characters symbolizes human personalities.
For info some of G Dragons fans reacted wo due research.. 1. Dragons and serpent like creatures are not only seen archaeologically (artifacts) and in folklores in China ALONE,, they are present in different countries. 2. Before spaniards came filipinos worship nature(the sun, the moon - bulan in visayan region, the wind, mountains etc) 3. No plagiarism here as they(fans of other artist)claims, because he was worshipped before spaniards came. Certified by experts here in my country (National Historical Institute).
I love you commentaries on this, especially No Drink, you nailed it here. Well, I guess, even in myths Filipinos are just family-oriented that there' gotta be a god and goddesses in all things. Who knows there could be children of the moon as well hahahaha
The high pitch intro and the voice that you heared the whole song was Stell's. 😊 It wasn't originally planned /included when Ken/Felip recording the song but he thinks something's missing when he listens to it to finalize then he suddenly called Stell to come over and have Stell listen his song then ask to do a freestyle chant and Stell understood the assignment 😊😅❤.
