Nooo! I've waited so much for someone to react to DSO and you find some crappy produced version (and different singer?) of the song that ended in the record. Now you need more of this because if you like it like this, it gets just better.
Keep up the good work!
Been fan of DSO for years. But never heard this version and with this singer. Production is horrible and vocalist is not on DSO level...
So true!
Not so crappy, but still DSO is waaaay better than this
Is a demo from the ep album
Early jazz metal in the 70s was called fusion. Majavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever were great bands. Maybe not metal but they both could be very heavy.
Yep, this sounded really underproduced for DSO standards. The soprano singer from the first albums is out of this world. You need to listen to the studio versions.
Gabriel Mekler most def
Only song I'm familiar with is Balrog Boogie. I've heard a few others, but I've heard Balrog Boogie quite a few times.
Honey Trap Aftermath, Jigsaw Hustle, and especially Karma Bonfire are good.
As a lover of metal.. and a player in professional big bands... they’ve been a fav for me for a long time
DSO is one of my top 3 favorite bands, but this song is far from their best. Listen to Balrog Boogie, Voodoo Mon Amour, A Rancid Romance, or my favorite: Infralove
Yay! Diablo Swing Orchestra! They are awesome. I've been following them since their first album and the moment I heard the first song on the album (Balrog Boogie, which incidentally is one of my favourites) I was immediately hooked :) I'm going to suggest that in your website because it's, as the name suggests, a metal boogie and it's super fun :) From their latest album I love The Age of Vulture Culture. It has some latin influences and it's also a lot of fun :)
I liked it!
I thought it was cool af. Thx for showcasing it
it's different from studio version, but still georgeus
I hope you guys do more Avant-Garde metal reactions - as a genre, it thrives on playfulness and adventure, a kind of a catch-all, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink, outsider art genre, with a lot of elements that normally wouldn't seem to go together played with in experimental ways. It can have some messy results, but it ends up strangely beautiful more often than not, even (sometimes especially) when the dissonance and other experiments in noise come into play! There's always been an Avant-Garde element in metal and heavy rock, but Voivod and Celtic Frost really helped to make the genre mainstream in metal back in the '80s, to the point where it's normal for metal to showcase avant-garde elements today.
I hung out with these guys when they performed at progpower USA about 10 years ago. They were a lot of fun. This wasn't the best song from them though. You should check out balrog Boogie from their first album, or from their second album, a tap dancers dilemma or vodka Inferno. Very cool!
YOU'RE SO CUUUUUTE
Thumbs up from here.
I Love DSO, but where on earth you found this recording? Need to do another song!!!
First time hearing these guys. Very interesting. I'd like to hear more.
US TOO!
This sounds like a badly recorded cover. Go after their albums, they are awesome
GREAT band! DSO has been one of my top bands for a long time and so glad to see you both do a song from them. Their first few albums are the best if you like the metal edge to it. I recommend "The Tap Dancer's Dilemma".
Interesting
Marvellous band - simply amazing!
If you like gypsy music you must like klezmer as well(?)
Oh, talking about requesting twice - you can see that a looot of times your engine makes a double (or triple) posting for a request :P
I noticed that on mt Joe Bonamassa Beth hart request "I'll Take Care of You" it requested 2 times "I'd Rather go Blind" only requested once.
DSO!
...which is similar to DsO = Deathspell Omega :P
a truly awesome one from them and my introduction to d s o is Lucy fears the morning star
The best DSO song is A tapdancer's dilemma. Try that one to really see what this great band is about... Absolutely crazy... Besides I have a suggestion no one has made before, one I'm sure you're gonna love because so unique and different to anything else. It's HAGGARD, a really awesome band that has blown many minds... I could suggest any of their songs, but try with Eppur si Muove, of the album with the same name...
This song - and the term "avant-garde metal" - reminded me quite strongly of one of my favorite French bands - Jack Dupon! I'll post some requests to the web site for your listening pleasure!
Also, the reference to rockabilly and gypsy/swing - Gotta recommend some Estradasphere, a self-proclaimed inventor of bizarre genres such as "Bulgarian Surf", "Romanian Gypsy-Metal", and "Spaghetti Eastern"! I'll drop some of theirs in the request engine, too :-D
Hmm interesting stuff. Not so sure at the start but it grew on me.
Would be even better if Rich hadn't heard some of the songs before either like on this one.
If you enjoyed this one i will echo my knr.wtf request from a few weeks back of the song "The Herald" by the band Comus. From 1971.
Dear K&R, could you fit Neil Young singing old man into your busy schedule? you will love his original
Writing... His humble diminor is catching!!! many thanks. 🌹🌹❤️
a subscriber. (Neal)
Not the Diablo Swing Orchestra i know...
Dear KNR was there a reason you had to break it up?
Dso is a weird winner.
reminds me some\/\/hat of Epica on a smaller scale.
This must be a demo version ... it's really bad! "The Butchers Ballroom" is very well produced and every single song on the album it is a blast! This is just sad ...
not their best song, nice, but the best. heroines and lucy fears the morning star are way better.
I agree. I almost requested Lucy fears the Morning Star, but I went with a tap dancers dilemma. Can't go wrong with either.
I love DSO but you could have found a much better version or a different song. This version sounds awful in comparison to the one from The Butchers Ballroom. Other songs I'd suggest are Tapdancers Dilemma, Guerilla Laments (not really jazz) or Heroines.
... you found one of the worst to react to of this band lol you need to try an other one.. please
This isn't anywhere near the level of Jethro Tull, the band they are trying to emulate.
They definitely aren't trying to emulate Jethro Tull. Maybe on this song with the flutes, but that's about it tbh.
