    That instructor's name is Minoki Ichihara and he did know grappling when he fought Royce back in 1994...he won multiple Daido Juko tournaments(basically MMA in a gi) before competing in the UFC.
    He just didn't know enough grappling to beat Royce :D Royce even mentioned on his career retrospective PPV(Ultimate Royce Gracie) that Ichihara made it real hard for him on the ground defense-wise.

    I started Daido Juku almost two months ago. All I can say is that I feel a lot stronger, my body is way more flexible now, my body stamina is higher, and my overall fitness level is increased. It's a great martial art! Thanks for the video, by the way, it helps a newbie like me :-)

    Thank you for uploading this. its a very nice video. I have been learning Kyoushin for a while and I just found out about Daido Juku recently, I started cross training the two styles and it's a lot of fun.this is one of the most complete martial arts out there.

      How would you compare Kyokushin and the striking of Kudo?
      Are the mindset, technique or conditioning the same?
      Or it's closer to Muay Thai than it is to Kyokushin?

    Hey, isn't that Minoki Ichihara? From UFC 2?
    As someone who trains in MMA , I have to say I love these techniques. I'll have to try that foot sweep from the thai clinch. The only thing that I think could be done better is he needs to wrap the leg on the ankle lock. other wise he could just sit up out of it.
    this is a great video. please keep them coming.

    Are you going to post more videos on this particular martial art? I would really appreciate it if you did. Although I don't speak Japanese, I believe Martial Arts (much like a lot other arts) is a universal language. Thank you for your video. Peace.

    @QuietRain I definitely agree with the notion that one of boxing's biggest flaws is its psychological mindset of training (e.g., it's sport aspect). This is why I'm going to start training in Judo, Aikido, KFM, and Boxing. This way I can become a well-rounded fighter with many different assets and psychological philosophies to fighting. Keep up the good training man. Peace.

    kudo has a good part of judo work in it, Takashi Sensei was 3rd dan in judo and 3rd dan kyokushin when he created his own style; daidojuku karate, renamed daido juku kudo in 2001
    Kyokushin karate, judo,jujutsu and boxing are all incorporated in Kudo
    As for the hybrid part hybrid karate would be more accurate, seeing that 2/3 of the work is stand up full contact striking, 1/3 nage and newaza
    Kind regards

    I saw a sweet thai clinch counter by Eric Paulson which is pretty much a shoulder throw with both arms trapped.

    awesome video, man! i've been looking for a martial art as complete as this , but in my country there is no Kudo dojo (or JKD school which would be my next choice). I hope you put up more vids so that i can use them as reference. Good luck in ur exam! OSU!!

    This is an awesome martial art. I love this system. However, criticizing knife defense, of other systems, you first have to realize that no matter how good an instructor may be,the likely hood of getting cut, is quite high. There is no system out there, that is 100% full proof. I was assaulted with a knife and the only reason, that I did not get cut and survived was because the assailant was a lot more scared, than I was. He made a mistake and I took advantage of it.

    @JudoGirl20 If you train with the intent for self-defense, then boxing can be one of the BEST tools for a martial artist. Most people in the world are headhunters and one of a boxer's best assets is protecting their head, head movement, and footwork.

    I love this new karate style but I have a slight problem with the competition fights. I just think the headgear they use in competitions just make your head a bigger target.
    I've been doing judo, bjj and muay thai for a couple of years and can relate very well to this martial art style. It's like MMA with a gi. Just the head gear part that bugs me. Its safer no doubt though.

    yeah that's exactly what I'm telling you, if you can't finish it with one punch you can't win with 40 half punches either, and I know a martial arts instructor from the austrian special forces police called cobra and they tested all you nice and flashy krav maga knife defenses with a knife that marks like a pencil, and the all mighty krav maga defense, and any other style was tested there too, didn't manage to get out of the knife fight without a cut somewhere on his body even once

      Brian J Malmsteen Kata is used to create MUSCLE MEMORY for clinching, throwing/grappling, punching, kicking, & dodging... It's like you're spending hours to learn a great guitar song by building up muscle memory so you can play it well... JUST PRATICE & have a sparring partner in FULL-CONTACT with no dancing/choreography. Just fight like a real warrior in a real fight. It would be better without gears but flesh...

  • @obscurelines

    There's something a little disingenuous about the clinch instruction. Judoka rarely grab both lapels and just stand there and if the thai clich is so easy to sweep then Rick Franklin would have a much less broken nose.

  • @MutsuKazuma
    @MutsuKazuma 12 років тому

    so all those nice demonstrations with knife defense and gun disarming are like shows of traditional martial art techniques, looks nice, doesn't really work like that in a real fight, unless you don't mind a severed tendon, sinnue or muscle

    This Japanese guy in the video was beaten by Royce Gracie in the second tournament, this martial art is supposed to be well versed in ground fighting but, it was demostrated that, they're not that good at it. It just took five minutes to be tapped out by Gracie!

    • @guird4
      @guird4 6 років тому +7

      That was over 20 years ago. Most likely, it was that loss that led Ichihara to expand kudo karate to include more grappling. I understand that it used to be very much a stand-up striking style in the past. Two decades of hybrid fighting will most likely have cleaned up a lot of deficiencies.

    • @vasileios6301

      and royce was beaten by sakuraba, so? any fighter can be beaten by anyone else, of course you need to evolve constantly in order to improve your technique, but that does'n mean the style is "not good". The bjj of royce is no dominant anymore, nor in bjj tournaments nor in mma, but that does not diminish the value of classic bjj, just put it in perspective.

    Try that thai clinch on a judoka and you'll go flying. Rich Frankling didn't know judo thus the broken nose. Also Anderson Silva is a crossed trained fighter. It's alot harder to sweep/throw/takedown a cross trained fighter from the clinch than say a regular thai boxer who has never wrestled a day in his life. Neck wrestling for proper kneeing position is diffrent from judo/wrestling.
