Vanellope von Schweetz is the spunky, fun loving, main character of her video game Sugar Rush, but that is all changed when the manipulative, free loading character Turbo hijacked and recoded the game. His changes resulted in everyone forgetting Vanellope and transformed her into... a glitch. There was a way though to free the kingdom of Turbo, now known as King Candy, and save Vanellope; if she could become a roster character again in her racing game by winning the roster competition, Sour Bill states “she won’t be a glitch anymore.” Guess what? Vanellope does it! She wins the race, the world is saved and she is no longer a… wait a minute. How does she jump out of her clothing if she is no longer a glitch?

anybody who's played racing games knows there is always a character/racer who magically is always on your butt or passing you even if you are ahead. She is that racer.
True, but that's always randomly generated. By that logic, all of the racers should have that power. Vanellope is the game's iconic character, so by my assumption, Taffyta is probably her rival based on her personality and how seriously she takes racing. Wouldn't put it passed Disney to simplify the concept and have Vanellope represent that concept though.

That teleportation ability isn't a glitch. Vanellope literally states at the end of Wreck-It Ralph that it's a superpower that her character is supposed to have, and it even shows a scene of said ability being used in her game to make a small warp forward.

No one would belive him since he is not part of the code of the game. Vanellope as ruler of Sugar Rush would probably have an understanding of her game, who's a character and who is not.
Well, he altered the memories. Maybe he could alter them into thinking he's the father? Even Vanellope herself.

Aixa Tello that would mean that she would eventually be queen. Turbo wanted the glory all to himself and wouldn't want someone else sharing it with him.
I always thought that glitching was her secret ability. I mean every racer in Sugar Rush had one if you look at the big race. Everyone uses some unique way either to slow other down or to damage the other racers' cars or to fasten themselves up. All for gaining the leading position. Gamers could choose their avatars based upon the avatar's racing abilities incuding these secret ones. And maybe Vanellopoe's ability was: glitching. Which is quite a good one, no wonder she is the star of the game. It is so good it might seem as cheating if you do not know about the reason why she is capable of this. This ability is so good that it might be too good. Maybe a mistake in the system.
So I never wondered why she was seen as a problem after everyone forgot her identity. She was something too good to be true coming from an "everyday racer" like how all the other have seen themselves. So no wonder in the other racers' eyes without any explanation for why can she do this her talent was no longer lucky but a burden.
Laura Ivett Varga my problem here is why would the deveolopers of the arcade game give her that power that will make her glitch out and teleport? if they wanted to give her telaportingbl powers, it won't make sence that it would look like a glitch and have her all static and disinagrate and apear to another location. it would of been candy related like having her have a pink sugary aura when she teleports.

Maybe her teleport ability requires some kind of complex button combination or it only works on certain terrains or maybe it can only be used a few limited times/one time per race or maybe it recharges overtime. Any of that would make it a little more balanced.
In that case Vanillope would willingly not do the teleport if the player tries to activate to make it look like it's "used up" or something like that. She would also follow these rules as a cpu player.
But that's just my opinion on how to make it not super op, what do you guys think?

I always figured her "glitch" ability was a special power, like Candlehead's ability to light cherry bombs. It's the "sugar rush" the game is named after; a sort of short superspeed teleport. She was only a glitch temporarily due to code tampering by King Candy.

Ugh, finally someone attempts to explain this! I've been asking this since the movie came out!
Anyway, I assumed by glitch they meant not that her code was simply altered, but that it was /damaged/. King Candy altered his code, but didn't damage it. He basically modded the game to give himself an alternate skin, but with Vanellope, he tried to break her. So despite similar symptoms in high emotional situations, he isn't a "glitch" like Vanellope and would still able to leave. It's still possible he purposefully changed her code to make her unable to leave, but I think it's just a side effect of corrupting her code to try to destroy her.
That detail aside though, I think this is all plausible! Vanellope's time spent with a damaged code helped her learn ways to exploit the rules of her own game, and this knowledge was retained even when she was fixed. Having a super powered Matrix-esque Vanellope in the sequel would be pretty cool :D
Which raises the question, could any arcade character learn to "glitch"? Or was it only her time as corrupted code, existing as something that didn't fully adhere to the game rules, that allowed Vanellope to learn this skill?

I think that she couldn't leave since her code was broken making it as if she didn't exist. If she does not exist then... I have no idea what I am saying.
Perhaps her existence is vital to the game existing, as a piece that holds it all together. She can't leave the game because she is the game. Without her coding the game would just have all of its vitalities ripped right out.

I think it was repaired to a degree, enough that she could leave her game or that she couldn't leave before finishing the race because her data was disconnected from the game; in the epilogue we see her at Flex & Calhoon's wedding, so she's able to leave her game
My question is, turbo only deleted the memories of the other sugar rush characters. Surely someone from outside the game visited and noticed Vanellope wasn't around????

If you listen when she’s in her old car and sees the other racers she says "stop it I have pixlexia"
My theory is, since she is a glitch, and (I'm pretty sure) a glitch is a visual bug, that when the game tracks her coordinates in game, it finds her character model and then it turns into an actual bug, because she is then, physically teleported because she changed the position of her character model with a visual glitch. This is because her code was removed, not her character model, this is also why most of the sprites concerning Vanellope are still in the game. I probably got something wrong, but this is the best I can come up with. How she still glitches after resetting the game? I have no idea.
Or I guess her code was connected into the game through bluetooth and Turbo made her connection poor.

Maybe she could glitch before Turbo tried to destroy her. Or at least, teleport in a similar way. I also imagine she won't be able to use her glitch outside of Sugar Rush.
I'm thinking the same thing. Vanellope was probably able to teleport before Turbo showed up, and the ability was damaged when he tried to corrupt her code. Since the memories of the other characters were locked away, everyone most likely perceived it as a glitch until the memories were freed. however, I think just the opposite will happen concerning the current extent of Vanellope's teleportation. I think she may have been limited to using it in her game before Turbo's corruption, and now that she's reinstalled into the game's code, bits and pieces remained damaged (such as the teleport animation and the extent of the ability), allowing her to use it beyond Sugar Rush.
like her racing Avatar is permanently damaged while her non-racing Avatar was reintegrated and left intact. I mean think about it during the Mario Kart games Peach doesn't race in a full ball gown. and it would make sense if you think about it because King Candy was an NPC but when he started racing he switched back to his normal form did not having a racing Avatar.
She can use her glich outside of sugar rush btw :)

another possibility is that her abnormal behavior was implemented INTO her code upon the game being reset. we see her 'code box' drifted away from the rest of the code earlier in the movie, but when the game resets, the box regenerates in the middle of the other boxes, which leads me to believe her glitchy state became part of her code, along with the regeneration of her 'original' princess code.
She says earlier in the movie that she has "Pixlexia", which implies that this is a condition she's always had. Maybe her "glitching" was always a special power-up she had in-game
The glitching is so similar to tics. It makes me so happy that she kept it and it wasn't the problem, the people around her was.
@@Muffin-sj7yhEver since I was 10 I would twitch now and then (mainly when I was scared), but as I got older it got worse. It was too far between to be considered Tourette’s, but it still happened around 2 times a day. That’s one of the reasons I love Vanellope, I could always see myself in her and I love that it wasn’t treated as a problem…at least until the sequel came out.

Wouldn't they just die off completely? Remember what sonic said in the film. If you die outside your game, then that's it. Game over. In other words they don't respawn or come back to life.

I think that after the game was reset her glitching was voluntary, and/or she has unique, possibly mildly corrupted coding. She stopped involuntarily glitching when the game reset, and it’s been shown before and after the reset that she can do it at will. Her coding was more unstable before it reset due to Turbo’s intervention, but now that it’s been restored she’s got her memories and all of her code back, but she still has that voluntary glitching quirk.

I like the idea of her being able to manipulate the code of other things, but when she was fighting Turbo, the weapon he was wielding wasn't affected by either of their glitching. I think her altering-glitch power only stretches to the things in her code. For example, when she control-glitched, her car flipped over. All of the characters have a unique car, which is programmed for that character. When Venelope goes through the "mini-game" to make her car, she not only chooses a car nobody else had, but she chose it herself, leading me to believe all the racers did the same thing. So if in the 2nd Wreck-It_Wralph movie she does fight a virus, her glitch powers will not affect it.
The actions Turbo did to seize Vanellope's throne were undeniably cruel, especially if it meant making all the racers and citizens forget her as their ruler.

Ok, more than likely Vanelope's glitch abilities are from the damage that Turbo/King Candy did to her code that the reboot was not able to repair. She realized that her code was permanently damaged but figured out how to use it as an advantage. So now she has a short range teleport special ability.
I really love Vanellope because her glitching remindes me of tourettes and it makes me feel a lot better
I'm three years late, but I didn't make this connection until I made this friend in high school who had Tourette's, and one spirit week when we had a "Disney day", she brilliantly decided to cosplay as Vanellope. To me this only makes the character better
The reason she could not leave was simple
since turbo destroyed her data as a script in the game
the game could not recognize her as a character in the game.
Technically she should've been deleted from the game if he destroyed her script. or atleast not able to be there.
but since that did not happen he only deleted her game data and the other characters memories
she should've been able to leave
so that means turbo's intentions was never to delete her from the game it was just to steal her place as leader.

The plausible explanation is van's "glitch" is her actual ability in the game. Due to king candy erasing everyone's memories and hers too, he was the only one who know the truth and accused her of being a bug (she believed she is one bcs she couldnt remember). Just like other racer who can lit the cherry bombs as her ability, van's is teleportation.

I agree with you on this and I think I might have a reason for why Vanellope wouldn't be able to leave the game when Turbo can. In a clip of the movie when Ralph is finding out why Vanellope is a "glitch", we see Turbo unhooking wires from her code and pushing her away from the other codes in the game, so since Turbo had access to those, maybe he messed with them to make it to where he and everyone else could leave, but Vanellope couldn't?
With Vanellope’s interesting racing ability, it’s no wonder why King Candy(Turbo) tried to delete her code and locked up everyone’s memories. He was jealous and he believed that he should be the champion and ruler of Sugar Rush. He wanted the racers to honor him and not Vanellope. When really, Vanellope was the real and rightful ruler of Sugar Rush. It makes me wonder if there was an actual Sugar Rush character named King Candy and Turbo somehow got rid of him and took his place, or there was no real King Candy and Turbo just took the identity of King Candy so that way no one would know who he really is.

I always thought it was weird that no one questioned how Vanellope could glitch past other characters, as shown in the last scene. We know from within the game why that is, but players wouldn't.
My guess is that she figured out how to present it as if it was intended as part of the game, like a gradually loading special, or special sequence of buttons that the player can activate of their own accord if they know how. Otherwise it's just kind of odd how she clearly glitches to the finish line and the kid playing is not just unsurprised, but happy that she managed to pull off the trick.

It is subtle, but it is stated in the movie that she has ALWAYS glitched. If the creators of the movie had wanted it otherwise, they would not have retained this in the movie.

I think it's more like she learned how to control her own coding and induce a glitch, so she can't manipulate other things except maybe things that are with her code like her kart. Many glitches in games end up becoming legitimate features because the devs and/or gamers end up really liking the unintended effects. This seems like a take on that. It wasn't intentional, but the gamers love it so much that it's now a feature.

It can be very difficult, especially if one piece of code can connect to multiple different things and then can create hundreds of errors that the programmer has to go back and fix. It can get pretty annoying to deal with.

I always thought it was because Vanellope was the equivalent to an unused character, they never programmed her fully enough for her to be 'complete' which explains her glitching. All the race did was make her a playable character without 'hacks' (e.g. a gameshark/action replay) or whatever.
I always thought because Vanellope was a glitch for so long, her glitching teleportation ability became a part of her programming, but after watching this and rewatching the movie, I got some ideas. Here’s my theory: Sour Bill may have said she would not be a glitch anymore after a reset, but that was the initial idea right after Turbo reprogrammed Sugar Rush for the first time.
We may not have been told the whole story since Turbo was very secretive(after all, it was hinted he went into hiding in Game Cental Station for years after his game was unplugged and before hacking Sugar Rush) and probable kept some stuff to himself that Sour Bill may not even know, so we don’t know exactly how many times Turbo messed with Sugar Rush’s codes to ensure his existence in the game after all he is not exactly a master hacker, he is a programmed racer with a big attitude. Not all plans are prefect for the first time around, so there were probably some setbacks, other than Vanellope, after Turbo first reprogrammed Sugar Rush that could potentially compromise his fake existence as King Candy in the game and he would fix right away to survive, to continue racing, and to gain attention from being king and living a popular racing game in an arcade.
His tamperings with Sugar Rush might have resulted in Vanellope getting affected in some ways to a point that she can’t return back to her initial state before Turbo took over Sugar Rush.
For that part of not be able to leave the game, it’s possible that was Turbo’s doing. Considering the Surge Protector keeps logs of who leaves their respective game and who enter other games and he would know every video game character and would know everything single thing about them , it’s possible Vanellope once left her game and met the Surge Protector right after leaving Sugar Rush and Turbo probably knew of this fact. If this part is true and Vanellope was able to leave after Turbo’s took over of Sugar Rush, she would most definitely meet the Surge Protector again, even though she would probably would not have remembered him, and the Surge Protector would find it more than a bit odd that Vanellope is glitching and not a princess/ruler of her own game, thus resulting a possible search of Sugar Rush, which would lead to King Candy’s true identity being revealed. Keeping Vanellope trap in Sugar Rush was to ensure this scenario would never happen.
I think her glitching afterward is a representation of her PTSD or some sort of trauma from being manipulated and she can’t let go of it and also why she glitches much more in an emotional state

The old "king" was Vanellope. That is why King Candy, aka Turbo, wanted to get rid of her.
Yeah, but it makes you think: how did he modify his own skin textures and character model to have an alternate appearance? It's obvious that he's been doing this for a while - hopping from game to game - but it doesn't explain where the skin texture came from. In "Road Blasters" we see that that he wasn't able to shift his form at all, then 30 years later he's donning a new character model and actually has a code block in the Code Room. Either characters who enter the game have a code block made as soon as they enter the game, or there is a possibility that there was a King Candy at some point and Turbo had something to do with why he's not there anymore. It's possible to say the least, but not canon.

So because Turbo damaged her code seemingly randomly, she became an unpredictable glitch that the game couldn't handle because too many code strings that attached her to the game were rewritten/erased, but when she was forcibly reattached to the game when she won the roster competition, her code was accepted as it was, and she managed to control the glitch in the meantime, and the code itself. This makes her overall glitch abilities a huge universal EXPLOIT, which sounds like a cool idea for the second movie.

That's post-Turbo, so based on that and the fact that she's game-jumping with Ralph, Felix, and Tamora in the movie credits, I'm assuming it's okay for her to leave games now that she's been successfully reintegrated back into the game's programing.

Its "Normal" for them maybe because Turbo only fucks the newcomer games, hence people wouldnt actually remember the difference, plus, even without Turbo there are extra characters, and in the movie they rotate every week and decide who gets in and who gets out via racing when the arcade is close

The most impressive thing about Wreck it Ralph is that the creators somehow made a monologue about computer science and technical jargon entertaining for an extremely wide audience.

Maybe when she was deleted and turned into a glitch she had the ability to fix the game and herself all along but she didn't delete her power. She could only control her power when she stopped trying to get rid of them and accepted them. Because she was the real ruler and controller of how the game plays (except from the people who are controlling her)
She Didn't need to go into the game and change it she could do it easily. And when she got her power it made her stronger but she didn't erase them she could choose to delete her power or not but she didn't and so she gave the players the ability to control her power since she was the controller of the game she could. And Wreck it Ralph made her feel accepted and even though she was rude and annoying he didn't leave her. Did he?
Anyway that helped unlock the bright side in *EVERYTHING* that had happened and she was like:
Okay got my power got my friend we're doing this.

I think, before king candy/turbo came to sugar rush, vanellope was the queen. and then when turbo came in, he hacked the coding and made vonellape a no one but a glitch. and turbo erased everyone's memory so no one would know what was going on and that vanellope was the queen.

Am I the only one who remembers that the zap power Vanellope has is on the outside of the cabinet game in the movie? Yes, she still has powers but that's not what made her a glitch. No one remembered her and THAT was the true glitch! When Turbo sealed away everyone's memories in the coding, he cut her out of being a main character and that nullified any claim she had to the race roster. Since she served no actual purpose in the game, a 'glitch' is what she became. Once she won and was reinstated, she was once again a main character and with the memories restored, she had full power over her zap power since it was her racing advantage as the main character from the very start. At least that was my take away. Sorry to burst your bubbles...not really...fact is fact as fact can be.
