CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE is a radio drama series created and directed by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982. Later in the early 2000s the show was repeated by the NPR satellite feed.
The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Marshall who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of those earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre.
CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE was broadcast each weeknight, at first with a new program each night. Later in the run, three or four episodes were new originals each week, and the remainder repeats. There were 1,399 original episodes.

I put these on when i go to bed all snuggled up in some soft blankets and can just see these come alive in my imagination.
After the 1950s I lost interest in movie stars but these radio actors are worth spending time with.

I love this. My mom and dad when they were first married, before TV use to lay in bed at night and listen in the dark. I’m doing the same and I can see how radio opened a whole new world for the war generations. There UA-cam of its time. Thanks for bringing it back to us

Does anyone remember a temporary fill in show that aired in this time slot in '78 or '79? Five different hosts: Lorne Greene hosted westerns; Andy Griffith hosted comedies; Cicely Tyson hosted love stories; Richard Widmark hosted adventure stories; Vincent Price hosted horror stories. It only lasted a very brief time, then mystery theater returned with E G. Marshall hosting again. None of the fans but me seem to remember this show.
