Bosch Impact Driver - GDX 18V 200C / IDH182 - Hybrid 1/2" wrench (2019 - Bosch Professional)

- oztooltalk review the GDX 18V 200C, or as is it known in the States, THE FREAK! Or IDH182 ;)
This impact tool is actually a hybrid driver and wrench, sporting a 1/2" square drive around the bit holder, for direct attachment of 1/2" sockets! This is the third iteration of this hybrid 'freak', but it's the first to boast a huge torque to back it up, 200 Nm!
It is paired with the new 4Ah and 8Ah ProCore batteries! It is a 3-speed, brushless tool with a fairly long handle, which should please large-handed tradies.
oztooltalk use this tool for all sorts of jobs: window install, decking, demolition work, pergola build, the list goes on. Fasteners include bugels screws from 75mm to 250mm, M10 coach screws, stainless steel 12ga decking screws, phillips head etc.
It even got accidentally drenched when the shipping container I left it in was leaking right onto it all night!

I used ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4ynqaujg7rZKFapA8s29kTpRszJGa3-K this for the first time today to replace the front wheel bearing on my rwd 98 dodge dakota. This had absolutely no issue removing or reinstalling the lug nuts and it took off the axle nut without any struggle. Sounds like it's got some muscle to it. Time will tell
This drill is awesome. Went to Lowes to get a DeWalt. Looked in the next aisle and saw this one was on sale for $120. What score! Mostly use it to work on my car. Incredible power. Will break lug nuts loose that are torqued down 130 lbs

I got the one with just the 2Ah battery, it wasn't enough to take half the nuts off a wheel on a car! but worked perfect with a 6Ah i had. I was thinking about returning it but about two weeks after i got it my buddy jammed the chuck on my other drill (hammer/combo drill) which ruined the spring ping clutch thing it has inside (i took it apart) BUT there was a clearance on a kit with hammer drill and the impact drill/wrench with two 4Ah Core18v batteries. The lager 21700 cells in the Core18v 4Ah battery can defiantly put out many more amps as it felt like a whole new tool easily doing more than the 1800 in-lbs/200nm, but!! also got louder.. ear ringing louder. I'm going to try to put RVT sealant in it to see if i can muffle it as much as i can
Also, ironically because the stronger battery (Core18v 4.0Ah) it didn't have to spend a lot of time on the bolts and would last as long or longer than the 6.0Ah battery with 18650 cells. Best part is they only weigh a bit more than the 2.0Ah

A tall tool but a very compact head length even with the hybrid chuck. That's certainly something Bosch seems to aim for with their tools, my gsr 18v-60c will squeeze in where my DeWalt will not
Nice review guys, Feedback form mine, I used my gdx 18vec since 2014 and love it, great grip and nice smooth tap screws in the correct position, also power control is nice not drain much battery , besides I never feel power lag during the time. I brought Pro core 4ah battery early this year, found this battery probably the leading class of the market, excellent build quality and great bright LED power indicate. I would say my GDX can last another 5 years same as my new pro core battery . Quality tool.

I’ve got a GDX-18V EC that I really like but it isn’t quite strong enough to remove wheel nuts/bolts on cars. This new 200Nm version would probably work quite well in an automotive situation

Been using the old GDX 18v EC for a couple of years. Like you said, Bosch don't seem to play the arms race but my GDX (and GDR before) have been properly dependable. Rained on. Dropped off scaffold. Whatever the task just keeps going. Only problem I've had with the GDX is the red rubber ring around the chuck/adapter comes off. I had to epoxy mine in place. It's much improved using the ProCores. Thanks for the review of the 200C though. I'll wait see what deals come around later in the year.
I believe gdx18v ec comes with 3 rubber ring as package. Different color black red and yellow but I like red
@@sw86241996 Mine only came with the red ring mate. I did only buy the bare tool though. Perhaps the other colour rings come with the full kit? Never seen the other colour rings tbh. You any idea what the purpose of them is?
@@BischBaschBosch yes mate. I brought as skin only it also comes with plastic inlet as well that you can put in Bosch box. My dear was super good only paid $157 back to 2014 at bunnings. Now price raised at $207 this year. You can look for rubber rings from gumtree or eBay.
@@sw86241996 Maybe it's an Oz thing? Honestly never seen the other colour rings here in the UK. Mind you, there is every chance I didn't notice them in the box and binned them. I did get the inlay tray though.

Larger batteries do not give more power or torque. The factor for maximum torque is voltage. The max power and torque will be achieved when the battery is fully charged whatever the capacity. However a smaller battery will experience voltage drop faster than a larger one.
find me evidence of your claim. I have argued (and won) this argument with like 100 in youtube comments. It isn't the extra Ah, it's the total instaneous power (VxA) that the cells can produce. Big batteries have more cells.

I love Bosch, but I find myself switching over to another brand as I need new tools because Bosch hardly makes any tools when Milwaukee and DeWalt are turning out new stuff all the time.

There's not really any Bosch tool out there that can utelize the power of neither the 8 or 12ah batteries. The only exception could be the rotary hammer (gbh 18v-26?), and gws-125. I am well updated on Bosch, and have tried a lot of their tools. I agree that Bosch usually come out too late with their tools. I.e. this year they are coming out with a 7 1/4" circ, and a mitre saw. However, other brands came out with this already back in 2016. Also mitre saw coming up, which other's have been producing for some time now. From what I see it doesn't look like so many carpenters use Bosch, but more trades that don't rely so much on having powerful battery-tools. I will say tho, that on some tools you feel a power-difference between old batteries and new, ie. the grinder. When it comes to the "connect" I've got it on my angle grinder, and fint it quite useless.

The new 8ah batterys are awesome. Especially on the grinder and sds, an even on a regular drill. I have 2 4ah and 2 8ah they work well

Good review, although is there any reason why you can't name names with other brands in your reviews? I would find it helpful if you were able to make comparisons with other brands like "I found the battery heavier than the flexvolt batteries" or "it's faster than the makita". Most tradies have used a couple of different brands and it would help give a bit of context and reference if you could make comparisons between other competitors.
Hey Dan ! I like tools comparison videos as well, for sure. But I also like this kind, which is a pure review of the tool: how it feels, how it behaves, if it's comfortable, etc. without referring to other tools, without comparing but just about "feeling", giving a neutral feedback of the tool, for what it actually is. That's to me really two distinct types of videos, which I like equally.
In the past, Mike & Dwain made very very nice comparisons videos, I am sure we'll have more to come !
(Btw, doing a comparison video of this tool would be pretty challenging : such an hybrid is pretty unique, not sure there are a lot more on the market to be compared with).

so you need to step up to an 8.0Ah core battery to notice an increase in power? I am using a 2.0Ah battery as I don't use my Bosch combi drill for very long and performance is a bit underwhelming but am considering this impact driver to replace it, but maybe I would be better off buying a bigger battery? Cheers.
the newer tool will probably give the bigger power increase. but a bigger battery will help especially with the impact driver

This warranty bollocks really pisses me off! You guys say this has a six year warranty. Here in the UK is only three years, and that's with the extention! 😡 And 398 Australian dollars! More money less warranty, that's the great in gest Britain! Makes my dung hole hurt!

Good review by the way but one thing to mention with the gdx is I sold the previous model due to the fact a lot of hex shank bits don’t fit in correctly as the shank has to go deeper then normal to click in so certain bit holders and hex drill bits the bodies hit the tool before it’s clicked in place which is really annoying !

Hey guys just curious me and a mate both bought one of these as our local had a great deal but we’ve both had trouble with sockets getting stuck, really annoying can you tell me why they use a key ring type instead of a one piece like other impact drivers
It has a friction ring, rather than a detent pin. People are divided on which is better. You'll find that friction rings are a little tight when new and after a long time become too lose! Stick it out, it won't be too tight forever. [Dwain]

Nice one guys, I just did a review on that too. So it's the gen3??? I thought it was gen 2 with bluetooth connect??
They for some reason decided to produce a budget brushed version of the gdx (GDX-180). No Bluetooth on that model and no speed change beyond the trigger. I'd rather save up a few more dollary doos and get the more capable and fancier version, and if I absolutely needed a budget combination wrench/driver then the previous gen is probably a better option
The first version , was brushed. Then came a Brushless. Now came this 2nd brushless version, that's why we called it 3rd gen.

How does the procore 4ah compare to say the 5ah Li ion batteries that come with the combo kits? Mine came with 2x 5ah Li-ions and I would like to get one or two more batteries but torn on what to get for the bosches
I dont know why it is slower than new makita and Metabo hpt.
Bosch always seems to be couple steps behind with thei 18v tools.

If it's a hybrid driver & wrench, how is the axial hammering controlled alongside the rotary hammering which you get with both impact drivers & wrenches? Is it always on? In which case, is it just an impact wrench in the sense it comes with a 1/2" square drive alongside the hex bit holder? I suppose torque might be higher than a typical impact driver (I've not got that much experience with them tbh) but it's still very low for an impact wrench, even the 18V ones.
There is only one kind of impacting/hammering on an impact driver or wrench, and that is rotationally. Bosch's hybrid is an impact driver, with wrench functionality.
@@OZToolTalk Impact drivers typically have axial (foward) impact too, like a hammer action drill, whereas impact wrenches do not.
@@MercianUK That's not my understanding,. Can you provide any articles or proof? Having a forward hammer as well (like a rotary hammer drill) would destroy the tips of PH tips incredibly quickly.

I'll admit that in looking for those I did find conflicting information on Wikipedia suggesting only manual impact drivers apply axial hammering but no source was given for that information on wiki. It's something I've always heard, that they apply the hammer action along both axes. I recall seeing Gosforth Handyman make a point of demonstrating that action in one of his UA-cam videos too.
Very nice compact impact driver and sorry if I missed it, but Im from Denmark and transparency are vital in my part of the world. so I always like to be familiar with, the circumstances and from what viewpoint a given reviewer is judging a device from, as that info doesn't hurt anything and particularly hence so-call review-videos on youtube where it can be quite relevant to get that info down.
Did you purchase it with own money' as a normal consumer and gonna keep it like that? or is it like a free shill-product that Bosch or perhaps some local store has gifted you free of any charge in the intent that you then made a review-add-video for it and they get som advertising out there., in that cases, some can keep it forever or and some need to return it.
Anyway to sum it up' simply just make it transparent, that is the best way to meet your viewers and a win-win for all...
And it doesn't take a Ph.D. to realize that it does vary to some extent' if it's a gifted free product for a commercial review-purpose or you in fact, spend your own hard earned money to purchase it and intend to keep it.

It's a LOT of work making these reviews and the cost of the tools is the price of doing business.
