    Hope you read this Andy!
1: as a fellow creative, do NOT do anything you arnt interested in. It will morph what you do as a whole and spoil what fun you have. Fuck that 3 dollars, numbers will be the death of your motivation.
2: If you interviewed a “successful” youtuber you find out that they just kept doing what they were doing, and eventually it worked out. Dont sell yourself short when around that SAME corner is success! I know you believe in yourself, dont stop doing what you love.

Dude you easily look 25, sure not a young 25, but a regular 25. Plus glasses and especially beards always make people look older. No idea what these other people are on about. They're probably teenagers and when someone is far away from your age, you're terrible at telling how old people are.

Watched the whole thing! I like fightsticks and all-button controllers, so I typically make fightstick and all-button controller content. I am slow and things don't always go my way, but if I have fun, it's all good. Life's a journey, yeah? Try to have more fun, Andy. P.S. I'm older than you and used to play both SC and SC2, and agree that Day9 was a good time. Passion > most everything else.

Youve got a great voice and youre well thought out, you have carefully placed words in the sense that you think about what youll say and it makes your videos interesting/ engaging because you have that intent qnd goal in mind along with passion for what you speak.
I think going in with the intent you have making videos will take you very far with the content you wanna make.
I saw a small time channel talk about how hes in a predicament because made a few videos that gained a bunch of subs but when he makes the content he likes, nobody is there. And now he says how hes screwed because youtubes algorithm is forcing him to make content he doesnt like. Its fucked up, so stick with what you like 100%

Polygons: "How to get started with Fighting Games and have a Nice Time". Step 5. 9:08 : "...Your Enthusiasm is going to be the emotional well from which you draw the motivation..."
While pointed toward the topic, its still applicable advice. Find what motivates you and pursue it. make the stuff you want to not what you think you ought to, aim for you own enjoyment and the skills built along the way will be for the betterment of your craft.

It takes a lot to look inward creatively and reassess what it is you’re actually doing and why. Creating something of worth to you and a small group of people who enjoy your work is at least as valuable as having a huge amount of eyeballs on you, it just holds a different kind of value. I think videos less intensely edited, and more rambly from the heart are the best kind personally.. so many vids these days are edited out the ass and I miss people just talking honestly and passionately about a game they love. Focus on what you love (which is clearly Ed don’t lie) and you’ll have plenty to be proud of

I think one thing that can be a boon is having something that makes people want to come back if they seen your stuff the one time. I don't want to bring up other creators, but some have gotten a lot of core audiences in a small amount of time in being built off giving value in a field that the viewers aren't so knowledgeable in for example the boom in Tekken 8 tutorial, mindset videos etc. I've been watching your content, I like your personality, you are a good orator. Having the last piece of the puzzle being something that hooks people into coming back to learn something new, have them think "damn, what gems is he going to drop this time", could be the thing that pushes you further.

I watched the whole thing. I discovered your channel last year some time before SF6 came out. I enjoy your content dude! I just want to say do what makes you happy. I completely understand where you're coming from, feeling like you're watching from the sidelines, but do you and make the content you want to make. I'd rather see genuine content over seeing someone make content for something they don't care about and after browsing the comment section, I'm not the only person that feels that way.

I always watch your videos all the way through. Sometimes it can take some time to learn that you should just do what you love. There is so much in our world telling us to care what others think, to do it their way, to conform, to please others, to try to live up to others standards. Just have to be yourself and love what you do, or at least try to. Everything else is just noise.

I got into Day9's stuff when I was grinding hard in SFIV and his insights, while geared for a different game and genre, resonated a lot with me and completely changed my mentality on growth mindset and being a competitor. Have been a fan ever since, and while he's steered away from competitive focused content, the insights he shares on game design, and the pure hilarity of his casual gaming streams, are such a delight. Such an amazing person to discover and become a fan of.
Among the people who've been sharing their thoughts and experiences with SF6 since it's launch, the things you've share have been among my favorite and the most meaningful to me. Always wishing you the best, keep on rocking, and I'll keep coming around to see what's next that you share with us!
EDIT: just chiming in to say I did watch the whole rant lol
Appreciate you taking the time to get it out there and for allowing us to be an audience to something that clearly means a lot to you. Supporting and rooting for you!

I instantly click on your videos the moment they show up in my feed. I can't explain it but your content feels real and relatable most of the time and it leaves me with a sense of comradery that I'm not the only one facing certain issues, all I'm trying to say is that the reason I watch you isn't to see you react to ed trailers and what not but to see how you perceive and overcomes obstacles which inspires me to do the same. Keep up the great work (I'll still watch reaction content if you make more)

Hey man, I enjoy a lot of your street fighter content and that’s how I’ve followed and watched you. Got to the end, it's always cool to just hear you talk, your videos have a "we're bros just hanging out and talking" kind of vibe. I've been following you since the beginning, remember finding you on one of the SF groups on facebook and really thought your content was great because I could see you going through the learning process that I had already been through, that was around the time you uploaded every single day just to talk about some new breakthrough that you had, or because you finally reached a new rank on SF5, but unfortunately, at some point I guess you started plateauing and weren't learning stuff as much as before, so your content started dwindling and you had to start doing new stuff to make up for the lack of content. For me personally those other videos weren't as engaging as what you were doing previously so I started watching them a little less and less, but again, whenever you have this kind of videos of you just talking about your progress, your worries, your goals, with and without gameplay on the background is where I believe you truly shine as a content creator, because you're so relatable, for people below, above or on the same skill level as you. Keep doing the content that makes you feel happy and proud

Day9 is kinda like the Simpsons in the sense that he's done so much that he'll inevitably reach into the depths of your soul 2~5 times if you go looking for it on youtube. I kinda owe it to him for yanking me out of League into Starcraft in mid 2019, and then into fighting games a few months later.

As a guy who's 6 years older than you, let me tell you, you've got plenty of time. I understand what you mean, but I swear it's not as deep as you think. I know so many people with full time jobs still doing what they love in their spare time, no one is expecting you to work 24 hours a day, I mean fuck some people have kids.
You're right to make the things you want to make. Do it on your own schedule, enjoy doing it, but I just wanted to say you're not any any clock. I think what you are saying is very mid 20's, your 30s aren't far off, you think time is running out to figure this shit out, let me tell you. it's a lie. No one I know at 30 has it figured out, or 40, or 50, or beyond.
The best you can do is find someone to love, try and help others and find something you are passionate about and do that because you love it. Everything else will figure itself out

Found your channel while randomly looking up videos on leverless. Thought the video was super good and detailed so I decided to check out the rest of your channel and was extremely impressed. As someone who merely just watches streams and videos for fighting games, my opinion can't be thought of as high, but I think just keep doing you man. The content you wanna do and the passion you have for it will show in the work you put in, whether that is educational content, vod review, or anything of the light you can succeed in with the right mindset. I think the fact that you make this video is a nice way for you to reflect on later in the future. I don't know you personally, but you seem like a chill dude to have a deep talk with about life in general. Hope you keep making content!!

Damn I think my comment got eaten by the net but the short version is:
Made it to the end and I'm glad you're gonna keep doing what you love. That's art, your art, and that's the only way to create. Eff the algo, just make what you love FOR YOU and all that anxiety about chasing the algo will fade.
Looking forward to more freewheeling no-flash videos, that's why I'm here. Keep on brother. ✊
Halfway thru this Rick Rubin interview I saw he speaks to your same point. Know that there is an audience, but don't spend your time pandering to them.. make your art and the audience it speaks to will come.

Yeah, you quickly became one of my favorite street fighter youtubers when the game first came out due to how genuine you were. The Cammy face thumbnails felt like a funny take on modern clickbait thumbnails. Then you started putting your own face in there and it was really offputting for me because your thumbnails stopped being yours and started blending in with all the rest. Wish I could give you a hug dude. I am also 25 and heavily relate to a lot that you said in this video. Even if you dont believe this, I will say it anyways because I truly believe it. Everything is going to be okay. There is a lot you cant control so within all of that uncontrollable stuff enjoy what you can, and within what you can control, try to make as many things enjoyable as possible. Peace and love dude.

I think you missed a golden opportunity to center your channel around helping people and growing together. You're such a relatable and "normal" person. There's so many new people to the FGC because of games like SF6 and Tekken 8. You made some great SF6 videos about overcoming online anxiety and trying to focus on learning, yet after those videos, that's it. You don't follow them up. You don't really post game play videos here.
For instance, I'm new to Tekken. I'd like to watch someone else that's new and isn't good and see their entire journey. Watching pros is fun, but I don't really learn much from it because I'm at such a basic level.

Bro never ever get discouraged by someone, telling you you look old. You know who manages to look young and fresh till their 40s? People who never had to live through shit in their lives. I wear the bags under my eyes like a badge of honor, they show that i've gone through shit but i prevailed and am a happier person through it. I don't know much about you, but from your videos it becomes pretty apparent that you are very introspective and went through stuff, bee down and got back up again and here you are doing some of the most wholesome fgc content, helping other people getting through the mental difficulties of fighting games, which for me always resembled the hardships of life.

  • @zachcardinell7350
    @zachcardinell7350 5 місяців тому

I'll echo what other people are saying - make what interests you; it's the reason you have a fanbase at all. Your transparency with your experience is what drew me to your channel and what has me adding every video to Watch Later. I am a fighting game player who struggles to get online as much as I'd like and when I do, I usually get bodied. It can be frustrating and I appreciate your approach to analyzing your gameplay and making the adjustments to improve. I deeply appreciate you maintaining the reality that it can take a toll on someone who enjoys the genre but isn't going pro or even leaving their house. It's something most other FGC people don't touch on in the same way, unfortunately. Your messages have given a casual like me inspiration to log back on and peace with the slow process of improvement. Thanks.
I'll also just note on your comments about life changes this year. It could be just the mood you're in and feeling the weight of things but it's ok to live and not be a UA-cam lifer. You can work, have a family, have a social life and still engage in your hobbies such as making content. Much like I'm sure you look back at High School and think 'why did I care so much about X. None of that matters after I graduated.', you will likely have a similar feeling as you get older about your 25 year old self. Don't be too hard on yourself. You've already achieved what many folks won't and can't. Right now, you have 3k people who watched and listened to this very video. If I made a 9 minute video about my passions, I wouldn't even get family and friends to look at it. Remind yourself of the victories and remember you've got strangers that appreciate the work and dedication you've put in. All the best!

Brother 😂 heart to heart, I’m 31 and barely about to start making content (well vids anyway), just keep doing what you love. Your break is coming . Vids are excellent, the most important thing I feel is finding your audience and for the most part you got it. Just remember some of us stream, content create and promote for 6 years + , and barely bring in 14 views. You’re def doing something right. Idk maybe I believe in affirmations a lil bit too much. But I see the growth. Keep making vids about the things you care about and remember it’s okay to try new things. Im a no body just a regular average joe , just giving some friendly advice.

Friend of mine Woolie from Canada doesn't care about his UA-cam algorithms. His titles and thumbnails are based on what he FEELS like uploading vs what he NEEDS to based on algorithms. He's quite successful on UA-cam. Check it out you'll see what I mean. It's seems like you don't want to place all your eggs in one basket that doesn't bring you joy based on just feeding the algorithm. If it's giving you content creator fatigue it makes sense to treat it as a secondary investment of your time and creating content that you enjoy.

Got to the end of the video, very real stuff. You know, I'm an actual oldhead (I'm 37) and I remember back when this platform and the few others like it existed solely so that people could be creative and share things.
I'm glad that people are able to monetize their work and make some money for the time they expend to put into things, but it's also a shame how much it's really affected... well, everything.
I also make videos, stream, etc. and it can be very hard not to think about things in terms of success and numbers, specifically when you've never really had those things, lol.
Just keep doing what you're doing in a way that, ultimately, is fulfilling, and don't let the pursuit of success burn you out. Take care.

I found you when I was very briefly trying to get into SFVI, and what caused me to subscribe is precisely the style of content you're talking about. I don't remember exactly which videos, but you were just being real and talking about your thought process when going through the ranking system or learning a new character or something along those lines. It was refreshing and I was drawn to it for these reasons. I don't know you super well, but I know you have it in you, because it's been there all along. Don't feel discouraged that you were trying to make different things work. It'll be an easy adjustment for you to make, and if you're deciding that's what you want to focus on then you can definitely do it and you'll end up at least feeling proud in the end.
The UA-cam engagement game is toxic as fuck, it's counter to how normal people think and act, and it clearly is exhausting and daunting. You're completely justified and not alone in feeling this way. I've heard the same even from slightly bigger UA-camrs that are trying their hardest to squeeze the most out of the system. It's honestly insanity.
I never did end up getting into actually playing SFVI but I still loosely keep up with the FGC and I'll be keeping a special look out for your videos to see what you're cooking. Best of luck!

The fact people think you look 35 is genuinely insane, you look 23-26 at best bro. Keep doing what you’re passionate about and what makes you happy. Fuck what everyone else is doing, analytics aren’t everything and comparing yourself to others is never going to gain you any traction. Look within yourself and come to a conclusion on what this shit means to you, and why it even makes you happy. Are you happy because you see a number go up? Or are you happy because you have a genuine interaction with your fans, and can help to impact their lives vicariously through your own. You’re one of the best smaller content creators on this platform for FGC content, I watched your shit a lot when SF6 was just coming out and you helped me get out of that negative headspace of only caring about a dumbass rank. Keep doing what you’re doing at your own pace homie. You’re a great creator and I’m hoping you do get that come up so others can experience what you have to offer man.

that was real as shit Andy. I was on the fence about posting videos of my own personal struggles with fighting games and my improvements, but after watching how honest you are about this stuff might have changed my mind. I didnt want the barrier of Entry to be stupid thumb nails and posting about stuff I dont want to, but If youtube is your job than making the trending videos is a must, no?

When I first started playing SF6, I went hard trying to find UA-cam channels for it. There are a lot out there (Brian_f is one of my favorites), but your channel instantly stood out as authentic and I connected strongly with that.
Stay true to yourself even if the algorithm doesn’t approve. At the end of the day, your audience is made up of real people.

Watched through the whole video, and I don't wanna sit on a high horse and try to dispense some invaluable wisdom. But I do want to share my thoughts.
Making it big doesn't mean you are gonna start having more joy making videos. In fact it could just make doing videos a whole lot more stressful.
If you have fun making videos, we, the audience, will feel it. Then we can share the happiness with you. I was stoked to stop you at Evo just for a moment to let you know I was having fun watching your videos. Because to me...the best videos you make are when you are just excited to sit down and talk to us about stuff.
Take it one day at a time, and I hope life doesn't stress you out too much this year

I watched through to the end. No sane person (that wants to keep their sanity) should ever play the UA-cam game over four dollars, and I'm in full agreement with the direction you want to go.
I remember something I saw on Twitter once, where someone talked about "content creation". Essentially, they said, "If you're making videos on your own, then you're writing the script, angling the camera, talking to the camera, editing the footage, buying equipment, coming up with video titles, making thumbnails, etc. You're taking full creative control over the video production process. You're not a content creator; you're an ARTIST."
That's something that has really stuck with me over the years. A real artist doesn't force the process. They do what makes them happy. They make what comes from their gut.
Just a thought to leave you with: Stan Lee's editor thought Spider-Man was a bad concept for a super hero, but Stan Lee published a Spider-Man comic anyway, because Stan fully believed in it. I guess he was the first "true believer", in a sense :P

A wise man - Josh Strive Hayes - said that making even "bad" stuff - as in something that doesn't get tons of viewes and whatever - is a step towards good stuff, cause everything you do is a learning process.
Other thing very wise person - whos name I do not remember right now - is that you should first create for yourself. Cause if you do something and even you don't like it, why others could?
Good luck sir. If you indeed step down this year, I hope at least you will decide to go with a bang.
And yes I stayed to the end I like to live in defiance of rules :V
    Good luck
    Have fun
and stay real. Honestly I always think we need more real creators like this.

The good thing about looking older for your age is that youll more or less look 30 for a very long time. Youll be 40 and people will think you look younger. as a fellow old facer whos bearly crossed thr midway point, I salute you.

  • @GotekSC
    @GotekSC 6 місяців тому +1

Yeah, I watched all the way through. This capitalist system has a way to grind you down. Especially with creatives and artists. In the meantime, try and cut out the types of (social) media that play with your fears or lead you to compare yourself with people that look like they have it better. Compare your current self with the one from yesterday. Focus on the process and actions, not the goals.
For example my goal might be getting a big chest like Kazuya. instead of falling into depression about my progress towards that goal by just thinking about that it's way better to focus on the actions that will lead toward that goal in the long run. I'll hit the gym *today*. And tomorrow I will focus on that same task. And if I falter, I forgive myself, because nothing keeps myself from reaching that goal more than being paralyzed by having missed a day, thinking I will never get big pecs like Kazuya and letting that become a week, month, years.
Apply that to your creator journey: Make content that makes you happy most of the time. If you falter and make a video that latches onto a trend you can forgive yourself for doing something to feed yourself, we all need to. Get to the passion the next day again.
Small steps, steady progress, long journey.

Your glasses, facial hair, and drip are very mature forward which could be why people mistake your age, but don't change anything because it makes you, you. Otherwise, you're looking really great for your age imo!

I'm not a sub for whatever reason, i've seen a good chunk of your content from my recs as a jonyfraze/hushmysweet viewer. I will say that the stuff you genuinely enjoy talking about, mainly hitbox enclosures and your improvements in SF6 ranked, was content i enjoyed so know that your time isn't wasted over the Ed reaction video. I would tell you to "keep doing what you're doing" but tbh I also think if you feel this way, you should make a different approach on attracting new viewers to talking about shit you like. Leon Massey kind of had the same ordeal and pivoted away from making FG essay videos to video game design essay content for the sake of not singling himself to just a FG audience that worked out for him. I believe you though, man. You fucking got this.
also I started losing hair at like 22-23 and have had the same type of comments made about me. i felt fucking ass about it, but at the end of the day we are who we are. you also look good for 25 imo, so idk why people be saying that shit in first place unless they're insecure about their looks themselves.

Day9 predates even Maximillian_dood he’s the true OG. I tuned in every episode to his dailies. But UA-cam and streaming was never Day9s main source of income. He always had other jobs as a main source of income. That’s why he could and can make only the videos he likes to do.
I am trying to just make let’s play videos of single player games. I cut out the “boring” stuff and I have a full time job and a family with 2 children. Editing takes fucking for ever! I’m happy if I can release a video a month. And I don’t care if no one watches. At this point I just want to find a workflow that allows me to put out videos at a somewhat regular time frame. I realize I need to edit less and need to learn to be more interesting when I play and do less boring stuff when I game. But it’s hard.
I’m ranting, but what I’m getting to is. I’m just trying to make videos for fun and it’s hard. So don’t beat yourself up too hard. But yes if you want to do this as a living then you need to work smarter not harder. If you keep forcing yourself to make videos you don’t like then it’s not sustainable.

Im not going to touch the whole "looks" thing. Thats your own personal Everest but I wish you climb that mf :D
All I wanna say is, do what you *want* to do. Because for me, thats your content, that's your niché. You're "real", relatable, whatever its called.
I have a Justin Wong, a Brian_F, a Broski and a Nephew in my feed almost every other day. But I cannot relate to these guys.
Their struggles are different from mine. I snap at the game sometimes, hate it or love it sometimes.. But you (or at least your content) feels way relatable. You seem to have the same kind of struggles. Your channel sometimes feels like a road to become "greater than you were yesterday" type and I really enjoy that.
I can get my basic "patch day" / "new character" content from any other guy on UA-cam just as easily. There's like 20 reaction videos to Ed already and there will be 100s for Akuma.
I dont think its easy or even possible to break through with the same exact content everyone else is doing. Do your thing.

I think you speak so incredibly clearly man, I never feel like I gotta read between the lines to figure out what you “mean”
Maybe that’s a symptom being a smaller channel, being more willing to cut the creator bs when you wanna talk directly about what is on your mind. Regardless of the reason it comes up, I appreciate it. I normally see one of your videos pop up when I just got up from a fighting game session pissed off, and hearing the way you tackle adversity both in game and in your life generally have been helpful in framing the way I approach things more recently. I think it’s thanks to how clearly you speak :)

Shit Andy, why are you making videos in the first place? Are you actually expecting to magically get an audience from a random chance?
Nothing can possibly happen unless you are enjoying spending your time on this. Even if you do get a magical breakout success, you wouldn’t be able to capitalise on it unless you’re genuinely involved and putting all of your creativity in it. Things could only happen when you look passionate about your stuff, you can’t fake it. And yes, Ed video was garbage.
Just don’t look at analytics for the next 12 months. Maybe respond to some comments, and go be a Tekken scrub for an evening. :)
