This is the most engaging episode of your show that I have yet listened to. Thank you both, I really enjoyed this, and it's that rare thing: a podcast that I'm going to listen to more than once.
Expected you to disagree with him on trigger warnings. Seriously that is exactly the wrong thing to do which we know from psychotherapy. You create even more fragile psyches by warning people before they get exposed to very trivial things. Haven't you had Jonnathan Haidt on your podcast? Will you invite him? Rory really dropped the ball here. The problem is that the trigger warnings are creating people that can't deal with normal reality anymore. It's not something you should promote.
That tangentialism is his brain doing creative rubiks cube, generating lots of threads and ideas which can become chaos if someone doesn't keep track and rewind a couple of steps and finish off the loop.

47:40 I found my engagement ring. Fell in love with it. It was at Costco. It may be gone the next time we were there. I called my fiance and bought it on the spot. It was 1/4 of his monthly income. I love the ring still today, 16 years later.
This guy is the reason I started vaping instead of smoking. Had been smoking for 20 years, and saw this guy on the show. Chris started talking to him about vaping. Rory said it is a much better way to get nicotine on a variety of levels. I tried it out because of his glowing review. Coincidentally, I breathe much better now. I can run for the first time in my life. Chris, your show is making my life better. Thanks, you are a real hero.
Same, I’m now using nicotine pouches to quit vaping. Tried patches and gum but didn’t do it for me. Now I’m steadily lowering the amount of pouches by spacing out the time between use. Used to be 1 hour now it’s 4. I can feel the improvement in my lungs already and it’s only been 2 weeks
Wow, dude! That is really rad! Personally, I like what nicotine does to me, so I don't want to quit. But not inhaling burning plants and industrial chemicals every day made a HUGE difference in my health. I recommend it to every smoker I know.

Going to read (rather listen) to all of his books on audible! Used to be in advertising wish I had had a boss like him! He has such a wealth of knowledge!
Holy mackerel in a sackerel of quackerel, what an incredible two hours of rich conversation. I'm honestly floored, my normal ability to leave an incisive remark is just clapped-out! It would maybe take me an hour to re-skim through the episode and compile all the great moments I have something to say about, and that's a treasured feeling. Who is this Rory Sutherland and how have I not encountered him before?
Thank goodness that you exist Rory! While I acknowledge the comments of others, for me; the side quests are all Part of the whole - there simply aren’t sufficient “moments” to cut it all in - the side quest are “the point” to me
I’ve probably watched about 20 different Rory interviews. I think Cory got to speak more than anyone. Rory is full of knowledge and anyone who’s choosing to have him on the podcast has to be aware he has a creative mind that is always connecting to more information. You have to know what to expect when Rory gets on and you’ll always learn something different. He tends to be repetitive but that’s natural with advertising or sales
I got married in 2011. I am telling you. I absolutely feel like I caught the last helicopter out of Saigon. That is such an apt way to put that. I have been looking for the words forever. ROFL.
100%. NFI where i'd even start with the mess that is the dating scene these days. I wrote my wife a letter ffs. The way it's done now seems so freaking toxic.
I absolutely love Rory! I cannot believe its the first time iv come across him. Im actually upset I didnt know about him earlier. I could listen to him Rant for hours on end!
Great episode, but the chap relentlessly goes off on tangents and interrupts you at every chance. He is well intentioned but conducting that interview must have been like herding cats. 😂
Love how chris kept his ground ❤️ but also this is a great Rory interview! Saw him 10 years ago, and he's adapted how he shares he's view on current topics
Subscribed because of this interview. Absolutely brilliant 😂 I went from being annoyed by Rory’s interruptions to being distracted by them. Masterful interview and patience. Fair play to you.
Alex Oconnor just interviewed Rory and im so sorry i missed this podcast because he is just incredibly full of usable information while also being hilarious. This is how a good salesperson operates, and Rory is very very good. Its nice to hear a full throated case for Georgism from a conservative. Phenomenal guest, shame i missed him months ago.
Even Chris has no chance against the ramblings of this man. 🤣The tangents are rife with gold though. Even I could host a fabulous podcast episode with Rory - just give the man a mic and sit back!
For anyone wondering: Trim tabs are smaller control surfaces connected to large control surfaces. I'll use the example of the elevator on a plane that controls the nose-up/nose-down attitude of the plane. Say the plane's controls are slightly uncalibrated, or there's particularly windy or whatever conditions when youre flying, and your plane constantly sort of wants to go nose-up. In that case you have to CONSTANTLY apply the elevator down control, which gets annoying, tiring, and limits your full range of control. So you adjust the trim tab on your elevator so that the plane flys level without you having to do any input. I'd sort of make a parallel with zeroing in the rifle at a certain distance you're shooting at that day so you don't have to manually adjust for elevation every shot you take.
I have never seen this show, but I'll say that chris seemed super interested and was a good interviewer, he let his guest speak. In regards to the USA and Canada, i am not sure everyone wants to live in suburbia and spend hours in cars, they just can't all afford to move to NY, SF or Boston, etc or even Vancouver, Toronto etc. Some do, others will never trade a big city with transportation for an isolated car status culture. In NY status is about what you do, not your job nor your car, but what you do as fulltime passion which may or may not be what pays the bills.
1:35:37 🎉I LOVE that you pointed out that old tv interview of folks here in the U.S. griping about not being allowed to drink and drive! There’s similar one where people are griping about wearing seatbelts in the front seat!😅 Also, I laughed so hard at “NOTHING in America is beyond being drive through-able.” 😂 SO TRUE! And even here in Ohio we have drive thru weed dispensaries. I love this interview.
The only chap who doesn't irritate when he interrupts, it's always fascinating and engaging without fail, what a mind. ADHD + extremely high IQ is a lethal combo
Damn.. chris masterfully handled this conversation.... i would have called rory out on the constant interuptions... Inspite of the constant interrupting, rory is still quite charming and loveable... I enjoyed listening to these two Brits chatting away...
I liked when he would go off topic and just riff- but you seemed to want him to stay very focused but brillliant people often see connections in things and share them. So bright my brain was electrified following him! OMG HIS GEMS...one of them on Austin "I can get great coffee by people with wonderful body art. But in afternoon I can drive to the desert and fire machine guns at oil drums..."

Who is this Rory Sutherland and how have I not encountered him before?
Rory is fantastic. I've been following him for years. It was so fun watching you two specifically together. Great show!
Discovered Rory around 4 days ago, now I’m hooked. Great chemistry between these two in particular
Thank goodness that you exist Rory!
While I acknowledge the comments of others, for me; the side quests are all
Part of the whole - there simply aren’t sufficient “moments” to cut it all in - the side quest are “the point” to me
Bumped into Rory at Heathrow and was listening to his last appearance on MW at that exact moment. Great interaction with him in the departures lounge
Greetings again!
And you still made the flight? 😂 Just kidding
What a character, Red suspenders +50 points. Rory should be in museum glass labeled “British Stereotype.”
I love Rory, could listen to him all day but God I wish he’d just let Chris finish a single sentence but butting in.
Any chance of Chris getting a word in edge ways? 😂
With Rory? No, not really. I quite love him though, even if he won’t shut up sometimes!
He is interviewing Rory. I hate it when hosts on podcasts constantly chime in, much like Rogan
meh we’ve heard him blather enough this was informative
I got married in 2011. I am telling you. I absolutely feel like I caught the last helicopter out of Saigon.
That is such an apt way to put that.
I have been looking for the words forever.
ROFL.
100%. NFI where i'd even start with the mess that is the dating scene these days. I wrote my wife a letter ffs. The way it's done now seems so freaking toxic.
Yeah. Dating is in insane nightmare now.
Rory is a gem. Could listen to him all day. Brilliant
This was both wise & hilarious! Your podcasts always brighten my day
This guy is a genius and too funny. 👏 😂 Could listen to him ramble on all day
Never a dull episode with Rory 🤟
I absolutely love Rory! I cannot believe its the first time iv come across him. Im actually upset I didnt know about him earlier. I could listen to him Rant for hours on end!
Rory is great and has introduced me to a whole new way of looking at the world!. His audio book is great!
Rory's magnum opus for the last 10yrs in essentially 2 hrs, absolutely colossal, and Chris cudos for being the stable rock in it all!
He cracks me up 😂but Chris can’t word in … 🙈😂!!
Great episode, but the chap relentlessly goes off on tangents and interrupts you at every chance. He is well intentioned but conducting that interview must have been like herding cats. 😂
People with ADHD thinks like he speaks.
So if you have ADHD what you wrote is not even noticed.
That's the charm
This conversation was unexpectedly hilarious. Fab guest.
Love how chris kept his ground ❤️ but also this is a great Rory interview! Saw him 10 years ago, and he's adapted how he shares he's view on current topics
This is as good as a podcast gets. High level conversation. I have learned so much from this episode. Bravo 🙌🏿
So so SO GOOD to hear *Thomas sowell* mentioned here
Rory speaks over the interviewer and takes many side-roads in his stories, but I love hearing him speak 😊
Chris asked like 2 and 3 half questions the whole time. xD I could listen to Rory Sutherland all day.
Subscribed because of this interview. Absolutely brilliant 😂
I went from being annoyed by Rory’s interruptions to being distracted by them. Masterful interview and patience. Fair play to you.
I have seen Rory a while ago on a podcast. Very entertaining and at the same time highly informed. Loved the energy of this interview. ❤
I love listening to Rory and will be thinking about his idea for a long time but I wince every time he interrupts.
This guy is a bloody legend
For anyone wondering:
Trim tabs are smaller control surfaces connected to large control surfaces.
Chris has incredible patience lol
I have never seen this show, but I'll say that chris seemed super interested and was a good interviewer, he let his guest speak. In regards to the USA and Canada, i am not sure everyone wants to live in suburbia and spend hours in cars, they just can't all afford to move to NY, SF or Boston, etc or even Vancouver, Toronto etc. Some do, others will never trade a big city with transportation for an isolated car status culture. In NY status is about what you do, not your job nor your car, but what you do as fulltime passion which may or may not be what pays the bills.
I’ve recently watched The Lord Of The Rings. Thanks for having him on
This man should be at every party.
I have to rewatch this again and write down some of the terminolgy they use like "purity spiral" etc.
"Crackheads academy"
1:35:37 🎉I LOVE that you pointed out that old tv interview of folks here in the U.S. griping about not being allowed to drink and drive! There’s similar one where people are griping about wearing seatbelts in the front seat!😅
Also, I laughed so hard at “NOTHING in America is beyond being drive through-able.” 😂
SO TRUE! And even here in Ohio we have drive thru weed dispensaries.
I love this interview.
New Orleans goes one better. You can buy cocktails at a drive-thru!
God I love how every tangent is really just giving context, to the context, to the context.
Sutherland has incredible wisdom and is an unbelievable talent. What advice would you give the young people of today becoming adults?
Ευχαριστούμε!
That was a precious chat. Thanks 🎉
This is the first time that I've noticed Chris seeming bored multiple times during the interview.
Think he was frustrated from getting cut off every time he tried to speak lol.
Just the best..love your interviews and spec Rory Sutherland..What a personality ❤
The only chap who doesn't irritate when he interrupts, it's always fascinating and engaging without fail, what a mind. ADHD + extremely high IQ is a lethal combo
Rory is peak podcasting for this show
He’s probably one of the most well-spoken I’ve come across in a long time.
This episode is worth an entire degree.
Rory is next level
Absolutely love this !! Fascinating
I want to un-like and re-like this episode again. This is how good this episode is! We need a super LIKE button here.
Bill Hicks' bit about advertising still as relevant as ever
I am the number one fan of Rory Sutherland!
Damn.. chris masterfully handled this conversation.... i would have called rory out on the constant interuptions...
Well done Chris for calling out the bullshit at 1:45, etc ! 👍👍👍
This is said despite liking what Rory has to say. Boundaries matter! 💪👍👍❤️❤️❤️
