Thank goodness for YT! I never new Jeff had so many solo tunes out there... I'm pretty much a music progressive and have ignored my rock roots. Lynne snapped be out of it!
@@melvinnance5029 It really shocked me when I discovered that my favourite band came from my home town. I mean, what are the chances?!? ELO could have come from anywhere in the world. But no. Birmingham, England. It's mad.
Apparently, this song is supposed to be from the perspective of Miles after Edgar blew himself up. The lyrics talk about Edgar's death, his feelings towards Miles and Madeline, and the possibility that he is still alive. So no, Miles did not get over it lmao.
I think this was released at a time when Jeff wanted to end ELO.Sadly it is very hard to get some of his stuff as it doesn't feature on any albums or I-tunes.Jeff is a legend ,I wish we could have all his stuff under one umbrella as it were.He might not be a Beatle but he knows his stuff.
Sooner or Later is not the CD version currently offerred for sale by Amazon, but the description does identify it as the B side to the single of "Video!' . Even by vinyl standards the album was on the brief side. There was room to include this song, marketing strategy perhaps to get people to buy both? Probably deem unworthy for the album and B sides are often just something to fill space that they can collect royalties. Maybe both.
Well, I had this Electric Dreams LP in the 1980´s. But not anymore. I rememmber Video ! and Let It Run but I can´t remember this nice song would have included in that LP. Maybe in CD album version, perhaps ? How is it ?
You're right, it wasn't on the LP and I don't think it's on the CD either. It is 'Video!'s b-side (along with an instrumental version of 'Video!' on the 12"). I don't know why it wasn't on the LP. It would have fitted nicely with the other Jeff Lynne contributions. You said you had the LP - does the LP have a different cover to the CD? I'm sure it does...
Correct, Sooner or Later only appeared as the B side to Video! Which was the 45 single release from the Electric Dreams (1984) soundtrack. It does not appear on this soundtrack. It was not from the Balance of Power sessions either as this album was 2 years into the future at that time. This is simply another brilliant "fill" track needed for a side B scenario. If you look at the B side of many ELO 45 singles, you will discover sonic wonders beyond imagination that don't appear anywhere else! The Bouncer (from the Secret Messages LP sessions), Julie Don't Live Here Anymore, an extra from the "Time" LP sessions, and Drum Dreams, a B side to a 45 released for the movie Xanadu are just a few. Oh, and my favorite, After All, another track left out of the Secret Messages sessions. If you really want to get your hands on some rare ELO, pick up ELO's 'Afterglow' a 3 CD set from Jet/Epic Records released in 1990... Includes a boatload of B sides, rarities and their best hits. You won't be disappointed! -S
Well, I had to admit I can´ t remember. In the late 1980´s I didn´t listen to rock music very much. I was a fool and sold most of my vinyls ( the cd time was coming ). But it´s possible it was the same as the cd cover. It looks familiar.
Stunning genius...timeless! For you JL enthusiasts out there, we know he did music for "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves," 1991 (Wild Times). But this track, "Sooner or Later" which was the B-side for the 45 single of the song "Video" from the 1984 movie "Electric Dreams" was the inspiration for the closing credits music for the 2018 film iteration of Robin Hood, though to my knowledge no such attribution by the composer was ever made. Listen and decide for yourself: ua-cam.com/video/KclPqyYih_I/v-deo.html
@markomarten He may not have been a BEATLE, but he was so tight with George Harrison; he might as well have been. The TRAVELING WILBURYS was the best!!!! The tribute concert and I think he was in Bangladesh. There's 3members left in the Wilburys. Hope they don't quit, even if George was the heart. They were all good together. I didn't hear this song in Electric Dreams though.
Jeff Lynne proving once again that his b-sides are better than most artist's a-sides!
Andy King what was the A side to this?
MistrBlooSky Hi there, it was the B-side to his solo single Video! released in 1984 (Helpful Andy).
Andy King ah ok lol thanks 😊
The opposite of what usually happens in 45s.
I keep finding more little gems of the great man's work..Jeff Lynne rules xxx
He is still vital to today more than back then. He kept up with the times, they are not too dated.
This song is otherworldly, it's so pleasing, I can't stop listening to it, at least for now.
cruising down the midnight streets with this blasting through the stereo
I love this song. I remember when it first came out and hearing it again is wonderful. An underrated classic.
I love Jeff Lynne, he is so talented, up the Brummie's, Wendy-Marie, Birmingham.
Thanks laineycrusoe for your efforts - appreciated from this humble Jeff lover ! ! !
Great song from a great artist
I had this on vinyl. Great to hear it again after such a long time.
My teacher (I'm in the 6th grade) played this in class today and I loved it.
it's a great song
+Zachary you have a really cool teacher and you have excellent taste!
Dina6279 My teacher _is_ great and thanks!
Zach Pittman Youre teacher is awesome!
Yet another great song! I love it! Please keep them coming.
Legendary song! A rare, incredible treasure.
Thank goodness for YT! I never new Jeff had so many solo tunes out there... I'm pretty much a music progressive and have ignored my rock roots. Lynne snapped be out of it!
Instead of producing for others, I wish he would do more of these ...
I'd forgotten all about this track. It sounds a lot better than I remember.
Most older music sounds better than we remember because of how it sounds relative to most new stuff. Jeff's sounds fantastic old or new.
@@melvinnance5029 It really shocked me when I discovered that my favourite band came from my home town. I mean, what are the chances?!? ELO could have come from anywhere in the world. But no. Birmingham, England. It's mad.
Was für ein geiler Song !!! Schade das der gute Jeff nicht in dieser Richtung weiter gemacht hat !!
I wish Sooner or Later and Video were re-released in digital format.
Apparently, this song is supposed to be from the perspective of Miles after Edgar blew himself up.
The lyrics talk about Edgar's death, his feelings towards Miles and Madeline, and the possibility that he is still alive.
So no, Miles did not get over it lmao.
Excellent!!!
Super Song von einem grossen Mann Jeff Lynne ❤❤❤😂🎉
Fantastic!
"sooner or later" and Lynne songs for Electric Dreams movie, they are of 1984..
Balance of Power, is of 1986..
This goes so hard
Der grosse Jeff Lynne great Song ❤❤❤😂🎉
LOL, "THAT'S telling him, Howard!"
No reason at all that this shouldn't have been included on Balance of Power. Thematically, anyway.
Great Song❤❤❤😂🎉

Great album great mid career tune!
"you were MILES and MILES away" very clever

Stuck in my head. ;_;
This IS a pretty good song, by a largely underrated artist.
This would have made a much better fit on Balance of Power then "Without Someone."

Jeff Lynne was not at the concert for Bangladesh, he didn't meet George until 1986, or 1987.
Very Paul McCartney ish
I can imagine Michael Jackson singing this song!
