    Nice seeing where the edges aren't wrapped underneath. Would love a video that addresses what the average customer should expect from a good PPF install. We see so many fancy videos on youtube on PPF installs that look "perfect", it really sets the wrong expectations on how to tell if your installer did a good job and you should be happy or a bad job and you should get a reinstall or tell your friends to go somewhere else.

    wait another year or two, then replace one panel, you'll definitely see a difference with the old PPF. then when you decide to totally remove that PPF, you'll discover who hard it is to remove it, you'll be shocked how much you need to shell out to put that factory paint back to its original shine. i discovered all of these more than a decade ago when PPF was not a fad yet.

    I wanted to get my Lexus IS PPFed, but I learnt the reality of these. Just search removing a PPF, and then you will understand it's limitations more than anything. Imagine you are paying $7-10K on a full PPF and then after 3 years or 4 years or even 6 years you accumulate insanely bad condition be it rockchips, bird drops, you name it and then the cost would be insane, at-least $1000+ because the job needs Steaming, Heatgun, Adhesive removals, Chemical cleaners plus a polish on top again. So I abandoned this idea, and will watch and learn on how to detail a car DIY or get to a quality detailer and get it ceramic coated / waxed. Plus as many say do not tailgate, keep 20ft distance and you should be good with all the road debris. Do a touchless car wash only not the machine wash.

    I surely hoped after the 3-10x the cost of repaired paint and body panels that the ppf would have faired much better...finally sold me on how much hype and access this is. Makes much more sense now that I have seen this to remember that it's just painting, and metal...it can be replaced/repaired and shined to perfection much more affordably than the PPF for sure. However, I am still sold on reasonable costs for paint protection and ceramic. Thank you for the great vids.

      Yeah PPF is just too expensive where it’s like 50/50 whether you wrap or repaint for say a used car. For a new car you are paying forward, but it’s not insurance, it’s basically paying for the new paint job already. Though for news cars I think I would do it. Used cars just do the high risk areas since I hate rock chips

    Did full ppf on my last car. Cost about 6500. As seen here ppf also gets scratched and tears and then you stress over that. I had the hood and bumper redone and that was another 1500. I kept the car for 4y. So total cost of ppf was 8000. I realized it’s just better to spend 8k towards a new car upgrade every 3 years. New tires, paint, brakes, warranty, tech, leather. Most people say they will keep the car for 10y etc. but in reality most trade it in half way through that period - especially if you’re the type to spend this much on ppf to begin with. Chances are you want something new every few years.

    • @paulf7803
      @paulf7803 Рік тому +9

      Getting a daily driver completely wrapped is a waste of money. You do the hood, front bumper and the mirrors. It will prevent 90% of the chips. Costs way less. Getting an entire car wrapped is for a garage or show car. Like you have a 911 GT3 or a Ferrari, R8, etc. Not some stupid Tesla Model 3 that you daily.

Do you think it is safe to apply the ceramic wax on top of ppf. In the future, I may just do the ppf on the front hood and bumper. This may be my last ppf for the new truck or cars.

    So not that it really matters in the grand scheme as he was still on point, but I wanted to correct his statement at 5:12: it is not galvanic corrosion, but oxidation!
    To anyone interested in stupid semantic stuff like this, read on:
    The difference between the two is galvanic corrosion is a specific type of corrosion that is caused by an electrochemical reaction *between two different metal types*. For galvanic corrosion to happen, it requires two dissimilar metals, and electrical contact between the two. Usually this is in the form of being submerged in water. Between two metals, the more noble metal becomes the cathode and is protected, and the anode metal is corroded.
    Couple of ways to prevent this:
    1.) Select metals that are similar to each other on the anodic index. The closer they are, the less galvanic corrosion.
    2.) Remove the electrical connection between the two. Some examples include replacing conductive water with a nonconductive fluid. That is why car coolants (if concentrated) require the use of distilled water as it is nonconductive initially, and need to be replaced every so often as they do become conductive over time (this is disregarding corrosion inhibitors in the scope, but they do degrade over time as well).
    Oxidation on the other hand is a form of corrosion, but it requires contact with oxygen, whether that be air or water. Rust is the common name for iron/steel oxidizing. Technically rust is that red stuff, which is iron oxide and specific to only iron/steel. That's why some people have a kerfuffle and yell at you if you say aluminum rusts even though people use "rust" to mean corrosion most of the time.
    In this case that he was talking about, there isn't really a way for a hood to have galvanic corrosion that I can think of (unless the paint has metal shavings and its not insulated). It would just be regular corrosion on aluminum, which is oxidation. Great video nonetheless!

Makes cleaning easier, less worries about rock chips, and has a small form of protection against dings.

That's what I got on my mazda3 hatchback turbo for full front (bumper, hood, front side fenders, mirrors, and I paid more for the grill shiny plastic part totalling$2200 with full hood paint correction deposite being anew car it has marks, full car paint decontamination, car wash of course, and the ppf in Miami FL with "High Grade Sound and Security". Ceramic coating a PPF is redundant as it already has hydrophobic properties which would make the ceramic not only redundant but hard to adhere to the PPF.

    This is really helpful. I just bought a WHITE 2022 Toyota Mirai. I've owned two other cars that had the front end, entire hood, front wheel panels and mirror fronts wrapped with PPF. They were both Tacomas, one was a bright blue and the other was Barcelona Red. They held up for years and looked fine when I sold them, BUT I was watching some UA-cams of white cars wrapped in PPF and where there were visible edges you could see dirts accumulation. Obviously that is not as much of a problem for you because you wrap the PPF around all edges where possible AND your car is a dark color. On my new car I was going to have some sort of partial wrap and then ceramic coat the remaining exterior paint. Since there are ceramic coatings for PPF I will probably coat the PPF with one of those. I'm hoping that the extra protection afforded by the ceramic coating will minimize the unsightliness of the dirt accumulation wherever there's a visible PPF edge. Ceramic Pro does manufacture a PPF impregnated with Ceramic Pro Ceramic Coating called Kavaca PPF which imagine would eliminate the need to ceramic coat the PPF.
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Super impressive! What do you guys think about PPF over a vinyl wrap? Does it extend the life of the vinyl wrap to the life of the PPF? If that's the case with all the new technology it might be worth the price of 4-6k for the vinyl plus another 7-10k for an average size vehicle.

    • @evanvolk5996
      @evanvolk5996 2 роки тому +2

      With the right chemicals, yes. Some chemicals that work on paint will ruin PPF. But now adays there is a PPF safe chemical for most contaminants.

      @@TrueLeadership777 For bugs on PPF I like Gtechniq bug remover. For tar I like a soy based product like Oil Off or Optimum T.A.R. Solvent based tar removers can damage PPF. For fall out, any good fall out remover like CarPro IronX, Optimum Ferrex, etc will work.

    NOT galvanic corrosion! This occurs when two dissimilar metals are in contact (eg: copper and zinc)… obviously not the case when there’s just an aluminium panel. As per steel panels, it’s oxidisation of the aluminium, albeit at a slower and less obvious rate.

    A car isn't "pristine" or "perfect" with a bunch of plastic coating on it. How would you like J-Law in PPF? Didnt think so. Want to avoid nicks in paint? Don't tailgate and don't park remotely near another car. Walking is good for you. Love your channel and I am a big fan of Chicago Auto Pros but I hate "plastic" covered cars.

    • @ronbrooks6547
      @ronbrooks6547 5 місяців тому +1

      Nothing stops rocks like PPF. Regardless to what's being said or to what's thought and not tailgating doesn't stop it. You can park in the back of a parking lot and come out and your car has cars parked on both sides. Bird claws and stray cats climb in your car without you knowing it. Rocks on a high way can skip and hit your car with a two to 4 car distance do to higher speeds on a highway so when the Rock falls off the truck or worst gets kicked back from a trucks tires then it shoots it back far. You would have to never go to the store or never park your car or never get on a highway if not all cars need PPF Wrap. Regardless to what's being said.

    Very nice, I cannot afford paint protection film on my used cars so I use ceramic coating and if I get chips will just use touch up paint to stop rust, and I stay my distance behind the car in front of me kicking up boulders, on a new car maybe I would consider getting it but as a detailer who doesn’t do PPF seems like it would be difficult maintenance bringing it back to the place/ maintaining it can it be waxed polished etc ? Confusing they also say the same thing about covering ceramic coating under insurance but I called 2 different places they don’t cover it and never heard of it …
