@57:05 That isn't what a pineal eye is for. If the lizard has a predator's shadow over it, it's already too late to run. No, it's actually connected to their limbic system and controls their circadian rhythm even when they are not in direct sunlight. Their thalamus region in their brain is less evolved than many other squamate reptiles. The primitive eye detects the amount of sunlight hitting the top of the head and helps them regulate temperature, feeding times, sleep cycles, and even weather and mating seasons. It turns out that a third eye costs less biological energy than some extra devoted brain power. It's not that great, though, or else it would be more prevalent among reptiles. It REALLY turns out that being smarter is just better. Honestly, do you know what works with detecting those environmental factors in every other animal? The eyes on the FRONT of your head.
Funny thing is that there is an ant that lives in California that has venom more toxic than any of the North American snakes she listed. This ant has the most potent venom in North America, the most potent insect venom in the world, and possibly the most toxic venom in the world, period. The Maricopa Harvester ant. Danielle, you should do an episode on them.
I don't understand why high heat and extreme cold especially in the ocean brings on huge creatures ..anything like spiders or crabs😱🥶. Is it oxygen levels between the 2 extremes?
I didn’t see the Massasauga Rattler on your list. It’s a snake common in swampy areas of Michigan and Indiana, among others. Does it not meet criteria for viper?
It was there .. the Massasauga rattler is one of only 3 venomous snakes in Canada, & the only one in Ontario, so yeah of course it was covered. A map of its range was presented.
"I don't want to pass any germs to this sweet snake" lol Danielle, never change.
Mongoose said KMA
Who would.
Imagine being this small and still making the entire animal kingdom fear you.
So Kung Fu Panda got it right not showing Master Viper as an egg.
Oh, Danielle, how cute is that yawning little viper ❤

And just in time for the Chinese New year next year.
Moved to the cariboo B.C. we got them rattle snakes. Would Tasha recommend yarrow or an alternative plant to help coagulation? Or is that safe?

Describing vipers as beutiful is like describing venom as yummy🤪
I can't think of any better word to describe vipers.
Luckily, venom and poison are not the same thing
