- Unified police are searching for the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck who hit a woman on a motorcycle at a high rate of speed and then sped away.

My brother was killed on his bike by a hit and run driver two weeks ago, i get how the family must feel, i hope she pulls through without any problems. And i hope they catch the driver, they haven't caught the driver who killed my brother, i understand the torment and feeling of helplessness, i hope the family can feel some peace eventually.

With a warrant, they probably need to round down which Cybertruck it is, then can get a warrant for its camera footage(?)
When an impact occurs video is sent to the mother ship. Tesla has it but needs to correlate to make sure. Someone with too much money, lack of responsibility and awareness of what the vehicle does. It is a mobile computer on wheels with 360 deg of active cameras.

There's been some a-hole Tesla Cybertruck driver speeding through the canyon here between Brigham City and Logan and, also, through Logan. We actually discussed the extreme danger to others if/when that idiot hits somebody with that tank/vehicle. Wonder if it's the same reckless driver.😡

IMO, the penalty for leaving the scene of an accident should be doubled if found guilty/at fault.
In Finland you may not get even probation even in similar accident like this (if unintentional), but if you flee the scene of accident it is automatically prison time.
Make it an automatic felony with mandatory prison time, with no plea bargain.

I remember years ago a friend of mine was in a similar accident. He had excellent reflexes and jumped up on the seat of his motorcycle and didn’t get his leg pinned like she did. He was lucky too, no serious injuries. He quit riding a motorcycle for commuting after that. I’m sorry she got hurt so badly. 😢
She might not have been looking in the direction the truck was coming from. The reporter said she was with a friend. They might have been talking.
Also I ride a Harley. The seating position on most of those kind of get you with your knees above your hips. It’s hard to jump from that position.

I think their licenses should be taken away, if you blatantly hit someone and run, you don’t deserve to have the privilege to drive a car. Hope they catch the guy who did it. As a motorcyclist I avoid cities and especially late at night. Not blaming the victim at all, just my strategy to avoid bad drivers. Healing vibes to the woman…
I wouldn't put blame on somebody at a stop light also but I think motorcycles should drive more defensively they usually act like they own the road and you constantly here people say you need to look out for motorcycles but that's kind of hard when they fly up on you at 110 mph doing a wheely in the middle of the night or pull out in front of you

When I first heard mention of this incident, I had no doubt the driver would be found. How stupid can you be to flee the scene of an accident in one of the most unique and recognizable vehicles in the city? My only guess is they were drunk, and they thought fleeing would be better.
Yeah they probably were drunk, in which case the fleeing, while not good, could prevent them from getting a DUI. Either way, hope they go to jail.

If he tried to delete the video they can also hit him with evidence tampering.
This will be the easiest hit & run investigation ever. Not only tracking capabilities of the truck, the police will subpoena the footage stored in the trucks multiple cameras with date/time stamps. Not mention subpoenaing the drivers cell phone records showing him in the near exact location at the time of the accident. And there are many more new technology items at the police’s disposal. I hope the young girl recovers well.

And the on-board computer will have GPS info, including location, date and time of the accident. These trucks might actually even have video of it too.

@OpSic66 yes they would need to do the work of IDing the specific Cybertruck involved. From there they can obtain a warrant for the footage. I guess that's how it works.
Exactly right. They have a vehicle that fits the description with damage that matches the incident. There is nothing wrong with interviewing the owner of the vehicle to ask how that damage occurred and where they/the vehicle were at the time of the incident. Follow the investigation from there.
Looks like they already impounded the vehicle...but they didn't talk to the owner?!?! Isn't that kind of like stealing it until they notify them it is involved in an investigation? I'd hate to come out and find my vehicle just gone and have to call the police to find out they were the ones who took it without letting me know!

It appears the hit and run driver is getting away with this as I see no indication of either his arrest or an ongoing investigation. Seems the hit and run driver is well connected and the victim is being ignored by the police.

Any lawyers watching? I know the cops can get a subpoena and ask Tesla if the truck in custody was at the accident scene. They may even be able to tell if the owner was driving. I’m not sure if they can ask Tesla to fish for any truck/owner who was at the scene at the right moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was drunk and/or high when the accident happened. I hope the driver is found and gets in serious trouble.
The sad thing is, he probably went home to erase the video from his cyber truck….. He knows what he did. But what most people don’t know is even if you delete your video all it does is it moves it to a file until other videos are so full then it actually removes that video but if you don’t record enough, that video will still be on there you can pull it… or in this case you can save it to see the evidence but they’ll need a warrant for that and I’m sure they know.
It has a tracking device in it as all new cars do. 🤷♂️

I think most people are interested in it being a cybertruck because it's slightly incredulous to imagine someone getting away with hit and run in it.
Should be pretty darn easy to figure out. They all have GPS tracking and multiple camera angles. Just get a warrant and verify.

It takes someone who cares to get on the job to find that vehicle. Just like when 9 yr old April went missing in the nineties, not one cop cared to listen to me and they still got it wrong 3 yrs ago. The number of cyber trucks located in that town should be very limited and a quick search through DMV will get you a query. I'm sure there are numerous cameras as well at intersections and along the streets of businesses, so that also can give you a heading and perhaps description of the person driving. Of course the police aren't going to confirm it unless they have proof, which DNA might be found on the vehicle.
Tesla vehicles have cameras in it! Also, cellphone data should be easy to figure out!

It isnt just another car. Its an extremely rare vehicle that has such a unique style, shape and color, that draws alot of attention and that it can be spotted a mile away and you cant just fix body damage yourself on it. So yeah, they're going to identify the vehicle exactly.

How dumb do you have to be, to leave the scene of a crime, in a vehicle that is both connected to the Internet, and a manufacturers intranet… and five cameras that record 24 hours a day seven days a week, and that store those videos on Tesla cloud servers. Every Tesla is monitored via GPS, telemetry etc…
One phone call by the police to Tesla, with an emergency court order in hand charging a ‘John Doe‘, police give Tesla the time, date and model.
Tesla checks the video, verifies that an incident occurred and then send the cops the video and owner/driver info. Done.

Also, the cybertruck is so lame, even its name is goofy, not one of these trucks is owned by someone with good taste and style. This is why if you ride a motorcycle i will always recommend having some type of GoPro cam as an impartial witness to anything that happens while you are riding.
just hope the cybertruck isnt parked at a refrigerator repair shop where it will blend right in
