Premiering in Cannes, Xavier Dolan’s heartfelt new film sees the return of the beloved director before the camera. This sparkling drama is the story of a friendship between men from different classes that is challenged by the possibility of separation-and attraction. An exclusive director Q&A follows the film on MUBI.
Two childhood best friends are asked to share a kiss for the purposes of a student short film. Soon, a lingering doubt sets in, confronting both of them with their preferences, threatening the brotherhood of their social circle, and, eventually, changing their lives.

Watching a career from the beginning is a strange feeling. We will grow old at the same time as same generation. I love his films so much.

I remember when Song for Zula started playing after the last scene, I bursted into tears. Something hit me hard. There's this nostalgic feeling in his films that I can always relate to. Love this film.

SAME!! And it’s not a sad ending. I was shocked with myself bc of that, I’m not the kind of person that cries with movies, but… THE SONG, that song is somehow special for me and yeah, I definitely got hit with a lot of nostalgia 😢

Hey look how humble is this wonderful perfect artist! 😌 He always chooses Max but everyone knows Max was way stronger than Matt in coping with the truth and the problems and managing the life and relationships!
Dear Xavier! I know I'm too late and 3 years passed but I'm sooo obsessed with this film and I really request you to think about writing and making the 2nd MatMax story! and show more about every character and what happened then...
I know you always wanna move forward and make different films but this movie needs to be continued! please make it! 🙏🏼🥺
    Love you Xavier💌

I first saw I Killed My Mother in 2011 as a 13-year-old, and this film opened new worlds for me. Not only could I 100% relate to the main character (and interestingly, in this regard not being myself a homosexual did not matter at all), for the first time I also perceived cinema as a form of art and realised what films can actually be. At that point, I became Xavier's greatest fan and always waited enthusiastically for news about his upcoming film projects. It was on my birthday in 2012 (May 18) when Laurence Anyways premiered at Cannes, and I remember the whole day checking my computer to see the first reviews being published. After that, I had to wait for more than a year to finally see the film when it was released in German theatres. It was worth the wait, though; Laurence Anyways is to this day my absolute favorite film.

I was 18 already when I first saw I killed My Mother, and like you said, it opened new worlds for me to a point where I knew mine had changed forever.

I admired the simple and truthful response (04:17 ) on how he values his own work by the emotional impact on and the honest reaction of the audience

J’ai lu quelque part que Xavier Dolan lisait tous les reviews de ses films et que, dans le désarroi, il a décidé de ne plus tourner de films - car, dans un monde qui brûle, raconter des histoires semble un manque de sérieux. Non, Xavier Dolan tu as tort.
Merci!
    "...Do not let me hear
Of the wisdom of old men, but rather of their folly,
Their fear of fear and frenzy, their fear of possession,
Of belonging to another, or to others, or to God.
The only wisdom we can hope to acquire
Is the wisdom of humility: humility is endless..."
    T S Eliot - East Coker
