If this team didn’t blow like 15 multi goal leads last season, we’d be having a different discussion.
Which is why Tuesday night was so annoying. It seemed like a carbon copy of the Stadium series game. But it was a split squad Isles team playing a full NYR squad with their reguler backup goalie (Jonathon Quick) and the Isles with an ECHL goalie. That they dominated for 54 minutes is more surprising.
Let's go isles!
Love their jersey
RIP Mike Bossy
My Islanders are stuck in the middle. No chance Lou starts a rebuild at his age. Fingers crossed a couple of players take another step🤞
True mushy middle,Isl’s,Pens,Caps,WingsSabres,Sens, maybe Phlilli? Only one spot available 🫥
@@jamiepike6909 No need to rebuild
@@larslan1975 The Canes and Rangers regress this year. One lost players and the other did nothing to improve and will regress because everything went the NYR way last season. I'm motre worried abput the Caps and Devils, who have both seemingly improved with the islanders over the offseason. Pens, Flyers and Jackets at the bottom.
As an Islanders fan, they were horrible in the second period holding leads. If they can change that, they should make the playoffs.
Agreed. The number of heartbreaking losses in the second half of the third period was too damn high
@@Mr.Ed_Wayner let's see what a full season of Roy does.
@@JohnnyBuschi Fingers crossed.
It just feels like the islanders are stuck. I’m not sure what they’re missing. They’ll certainly make the playoffs but I’d be surprised to see them make the second round as they are right now.
Thy need Ho Borvat to step up to the plate.
@@davidmollenhauer7580 He did fine. Roy needs to fix the d.
@@davidmollenhauer7580but he did
Same here.
truly think last season was a coaching issue. Roy came in and really cleaned up and the 2nd half of the season looked much better than the first. And while it's possible to turn a season around in a shorter timeframe (looking at you 2018 blues), it's not easy nor guaranteed. I'm looking forward to seeing a full year under Roy and hopefully a good groove is found.
As long as they keep overachieving? I don´t know about that. Where do they finish last year with a good Sorokin? The prevailing wisdom in Islanders circles is that Duclair will start with Horvat and Barzal. Tsyplakov with Nelson and Palmieri. OF course that story will be told in training camp and the start of the season.
I see Duclair on the 2nd line and Tsyplakov on the 3rd or 4th line. Patrick will juggle the lines often as he finds the right combinations.
SLEEPERS - LFGI
The Islanders no longer having the Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck line is gonna seem weird.
It was time to move on, but I still wish we could get another year out of them😢
One of Roy's major moves was to move Czikas out of that role.
True but we need to move on. LGI
@@rodbelding9523 I thank them for their many years of loyal service
@@jamiepike6909are you crazy?
The penalty kill should improve this season and Sorokin will have a better season
Great series
The Islanders are right at home; everyone will predict them to fall out but they'll somehow find a way to squeek in.
I'd expect similar results as last season. Baring any major injuries, they should be fighting for a wildcard spot.
Thank you for the preview. LGI!
Just like my NY Islanders
I remember seeing Ryan Pulock play for Bridgeport in the AHL against Albany when I lived there.
The two unanswered questions going into the season: 1. What is Tsyplakov? 2. Will Sorokin's KHL goalie coach make a difference? When we get those answers we will have enough information to know how this season goes.
Duclair to pump 40 goals this year
Metro 3-4 spots are wide open, hell even 2nd could be open if NJ is struggling-bad.
I think Roy will make a difference…he gets to put his passionate stamp on this team. The teams battling them for a spot aren’t better except for the Devils, I like their coach Keefe. Detroit and Washington is young in a lot of spots.
The Islanders are underrated every year 😂
Too good to rebuild, not good enough to get over the hump. At least we can enjoy being competitive year after year. Thats good for something.
They'll have to continuing playing well in their own end to make the playoffs.
Islanders are either going to finish 2nd/3rd in the metro, or have a very meh season and be a wild card. I think they have a better roster than last season, contrary to what Neil Smith has said, and they can 100% get bounceback years out of Ilya, Mayfield, and Pageau. This isn't a bad team, but I will watch what they'll do come deadline time. If Duclair can hit a 60 point season, then they're gonna be fun.
Reality is that nobody outside of islanders fans knew how bad their PK was last season, and hopefully changing to a new PK coach can change their fortunes. Games like the Sharks, stadium series, Devils game, Bruins game, and others cannot happen now.
2nd or 3rd are out of your mind? The islanders are the epitome of of mediocre. They’ll end up 7th, 6th at best
1: Isles are a playoff team no question lmao
2: Still brings me to tears thinking about how we smoked the isles, highlight of the season as a Sharks fan
@@sharkhaos_probably that game cannot happen again and it was so bad to watch. If I wanted to summarize the Lane Lambert era, that game is the epitome of it all
2nd means beating the Rangers or the Canes, that seems to be near impossiblity given this Islanders roster. Objectively and barring major events, I think you have to put Rangers/Canes/Devils into the 1-2-3 bucket, Caps/Islanders at 4-5 and then Penguins/Bluejackets/Flyers fighting for 6-7-8
@@y6cd3sdzHs1gdevils
When your competition is Pens, Flyers, Blue Jackets, Capitals - Isles look best positioned to secure that 4th spot and hopefully a wildcard birth. Aging Pens with little changes Sullivan cannot coach anymore, Flyers close but not yet, Capitals aging and DuBois, and CBJ the most unfortunate situation possible, RIP Johnny.
Have low expectations. Overachieve. Get dem playoff $$$ . Rinse. Repeat.
Probably win next 2 cups but I doubt 3 in a row
Ok, I'll admit it, I was one of the 1st-2nd place voters. I thought I was voting for the other New York team.
LGI!!!!!
overacihevced but won nothing and the rangers are closer to winning a cup than the isles and that's embarrassing.
amazing that this team is maxed out on the cap with so little to show for it. Yet due to the other teams around them not being much better, they find another way to get the 8th seed and get swept or drop a 4-1 series to the Rangers/Canes/Devils.
Lambert + Houda won't be coaching the Isles this time around
As an Isles fan they are not good enough to make the playoffs, not enough scorers. Goaltending and D is good but I still think they are going to have to make some deals to be playoff bound. I wonder if Roy will survive the NY media, and Lou needs to retire his old school way is not working. FA’s don’t even look at us!
A team that is almost the same every year. Most players aren't getting younger and outside of Duclair and Tsyplakov, I expect more of the same. 5th in the Atlantic with 91-96 points.
I am not convinced that Lou Lamoriello is the right GM for the Isles. I guess we will see.
Major 💤 er
No man’s land. Not good enough to contend. Not bad enough to rebuild. Torturous existence for fans tbh…
It's intresting why many thinks Roy is good coach. He was elite goalie 1000 years ago, but that has nothing to do being elite or even good coach.
He was a good coach for the Avs. He improved the Isles after taking over too.
Roys record kinda proves he's a darn good coach. Islanders just need a couple of more pieces to make it work.
Amazing player, fine coach, bad person...
They will make the playoffs... barely. They won't be a factor in the first round. Because of this, they won't get a good draft pick making it harder to improve the team.
It could be worse. They could be in the mushy middle barely missing the playoffs year after year never getting enough draft capital to improve.
Draft capital? Lou trades our picks almost every year. I think it's time to trade Lou.
@@danjones5848And makes the trades to improve the team rn.
Let's go Rangers
Rangers suck.
how short was your bus to school?
"Overachived for years"....or maybe the islanders are just pretty good. LGI🟠🔵
I am of firm belief that both Sorokin and Varlamov will transcend into brick walls and bring glorious victory to Long Island!
I found Islander fans in the comment section of the poll more negative than the general hockey fans. The word Mediocre come up a lot. Many people sleep on Duclair as a player.
I think if any of the remaining 4th line sticks around, it should be Clutterbuck. Martin has been done for a while, especially considering he doesn't even really fight anymore. If they have to part with both, it was a nice long run.
Wahlstrom just doesn’t have it, I’ve seen him play live too many times to believe he’ll amount to anything.
They can certainly perform at a high level in SOME games but its Roy's task to make them into 82 game performers. Need to rehash his record after he took them over mid last season. But believe they would have finished higher if it was 82 games. Top flight goaltending and a good D but I still have my doubts about their bottom nine forwards as top regular season performers or the ability to go deep in a playoff run😂
First round
I will be content if they make it the ECF
LGI
Perennial playoff bubble team that, barring excessive calamity, should make it in again this season.
Duclair is first line amd it's looking good so far.
Great video
The Islanders will finish with 100 points because we are gonna have a full training camp of Patrick Roy as our head coach, our lineup got better and younger, the additions of Anthony Duclair and Maxim Tsyplakov are gonna bring a decent amount to this team, not so much of Tsyplakov in the beginning of the year but as the year goes on he’s gonna be insane. Lastly we had 94 points with a Sorokin down year, the worst PK in the league and 45 games of Lane Lambert as the head coach which is honestly a miracle if you ask me, at that rate we should’ve been a 60-65 point team. Sorokin will bounce back this season and the PK will take a step forward and should be a top 10-15 unit in the league. Also not to mention in 37 games under Roy the Islanders played under a 102 point pace, so if we did that in 37 games why can’t we finish with around 100 ish points in 82 games?
I'm an Islanders fan. The actual worst case scenario is a repeat of '94. It really could happen.
More likely scenario is to barely miss the playoffs, and Lou won't sell at the deadline. After that, it'll be a very painful rebuild because they don't have any real good young forwards and their prospect pool is dreadful. Sorokin will be good enough to make sure that they aren't ever terrible, which means that they'll miss the playoffs for multiple years without accruing top draft picks. Welcome to hell, my friends.
Half the time the make the playoffs? Last I checked they have made it every year under lou but one
Yeah this team can make the playoffs but who can they beat once they get there? Maybe Toronto?
they dont make playoff and ledecky needs to sell the team or rebuild
Brock Nelson also a free agent after the year so if isles are out of it they could trade him
Howe River
Islanders/Oilers final... not going to predict a winner. Early 80's deja vu!
The battle of hiring awful people
Patrick Roy seems to be brought in to learn from Lou before becoming his replacement, i wonder how he does coaching them for a full season still though, he could be what Sorokin needs right now after getting in his own head way too much last year
Probably the hardest team to pin down where they are, how they’ll finish, and where they’re going
East will be wild. Fight for playoff spot should be fun.
Hi Shannon love that Islanders jersey
I was thinking Rangers, Canes, Isles for top 3 in Metro, but maybe it's Rangers and Canes in top two with everyone else hunting.
And as a devil fan, we continue to wait 😅 lol
They somehow are in a position to barely squeeze into the playoffs as a second wild card in the east, but get eliminated by the Panthers in the first round in 5.
thats some tricky math. Panthers have to be the number 1 seed, and Islanders def need to be the 8th and just getting in. Still think the Rangers/Devils will have the best overall eastern record this upcoming year. Cup Hangover is a thing.
Isles are going to be so bad.
