Florentiner Marsch [Austrian march]

- Julius Fucík's undoubtedly most famous and probably most beautiful march bears the title "Florentine March". He is his Opus 214. From his diary entries we know that the piece was completed on 03.12.1907 as "La Rosa di Toscana". Why he renamed it "Florentine March" on January 6 of the following year is not certain. But probably his publisher had a say in the matter and it is conceivable that political considerations played a role here as well. However, the "Florentine March" is an ideal model for Fucík's special march art. Both in the version for symphonic orchestra and especially in the wind music edition, the composition became one of the most played marches anywhere in the world.

Just one word: "Perfection"
This is probably the best March ever written, it manages to have the bold sound and strict tempo of a march, while also including a majestic and symphonic wind part. 2nd place goes to Fehrbelliner Reitermarsch.
no, to Regimentsgruß
I dunno man, Der Dessaur March is probably the best March I've ever heard.
2nd place is shared by Valdresmarsjen and Unter dem Doppeladler and Heil Europa and In Treue Fest and many more... they're all excellent in their own right.
My great-great-grandfather was Czech and fought for Austria-Hungary in World War I, was captured in Russia and because of the revolution he was not released and could not return, now I am Russian)
When he was released, why didn't he go back to Czechoslovakia?
@@TaxEvader08After Bolsheviks came to power, he wanted to return to Czechoslovakia but was not allowed, He lived rest of his life in a village in Siberia, got married and was not even shot during Stalin's repressions)
This song is just perfect. Or, as one other commenter said, "Just one word: "Perfection"" which is very accurate.
And you have the same amount of likes
"How could the Florentiner Marsch get any better than it already is?"

Wunderschöner marsch
Orzeł z nad Wisły go away, what do you even want here? Listen to German music? I thougt you hate Germany and Germans and think we are all Nazis?
I blocked him.
Danke
I'm not sure who Orzeł is, but I'm assuming that this person being a little Neo-Nazi bastard.
One of the most underrated songs
Do you know the words to it? Always thought that this is a fine march, and never knew that it was only a song.

This march was composed by Czech
Instantly recognizable and when I hear it I get goosebumps
here we go again
Fucik was born in the Czech Republic according to Wikipedia :-)
*Bohemia we should call it XD
isnt there a German saying
'what once was, will be again'
I just looked it up and surprise it is biblical (close enough)
Ecclesiastes 1:9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
@@dr.ludwig This march remained on the Czechoslovak and Czech army repertoir even after 1918, even during the communist years. Unlike the Radetzky March which only returned in 1990s

Mein Lieblingsmarsch! Habe ihn hier schon tausendmal gehört nachdem ich ihn hier zum ersten Mal gehört habe.
This march is unique its form in multiple ways - firstly with the extended 16-bar introduction that has an extended pause following the loud solo bass drum. The 32-bar first strain is repeated for the third time following the pompous second strain with a countermelody by the glockenspiel and ventures into a new ending in the final 8 bars. Then the repeated trio has a bassoon (??) countermelody followed by a new fourth strain, repeated with a trumpet countermelody before the breakstrain which concludes with a ritardando preparing for the final reprise of the trio, what must be one of the most exciting grandiosos written - the piccolo countermelody, cymbal crashes, and of course crescendoing to the 24 fortes before the unique "double stinger" at the end.
This orchestral version (I think the Czech Philharmonic) is excellent, the brisk tempo and dynamics really capture the spirit of this brilliant and substantial march.
Mega Marsch und mega Bild.
Weiter so👍
Took this to contest in high school band, almost got perfect marks
Thats Awesome!
Such a cheerful march especially the part after 3:35 , Greetings from Turkey :)

Finde ja "Regimentskinder" sehr schön persönlich.
But this march is Czech. It was composed in kingdom of Bohemia by Jůlius Fučík
@@moistskinidiouhehskillme look its not that simple. He was born in prague so do you still consider it czech? Maybe you even bring it down to his childhood district or village or even street or house he is from. You could also say that we are all humans so then the origin of place wouldnt matter. But we use cultural areas or we name towns, district, regions etc within the biggest entity of something like a country, which in fuciks case was within austrian culture at this time.
It must be such joy either playing in a band that plays this or conducting the band. I just love this, it really is beautiful. What a great channel doing such important work putting these beautiful pieces of music on a public forum to be saved and listened to for years. 😃👍🏼❤️
Wow when I hear this there are contrasts that make it enriching! Ends with a big bang and a solid wall of sound!!!❤️👍👌. The picture is fabulous in the harbor.❤️
Julius Fucik ( pronounciation Fuh-tcheek) was a Austrian-Hungarian composer of Czech origin. His marches are still played in Czech army. He had a nephew, Julius Fucik. a journalist and a member the resistance movement in Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia who wrote " Reports Written under the Noose" on cigarette papers. Other Fucik, Vit Fucik, was an early aeronautic inventor. Vit Fucik flew 5.6 km with his ornithopter next to Vodnany in 1760.
Glad to hear this done at a peppy tempo. In America, it tends to be played much more slowly - due, I believe, to the influence of a very early Telarc digital recording with Frederick Fennell conducting the (augmented) winds of the Cleveland Orchestra. ("Macho Marches" was the album name.) Given Fennell's sterling reputation, I suspect that most American band directors took (and take) that recording as their interpretive reference touchstone. Which is too bad, because plodding along at that slow tempo just sucks all the life out of it. (I've NEVER heard a Czech conductor take it at that funereal pace.)
It's interesting that in his liner notes for "Screamers," an early 1960s collection of circus marches with the Eastman Wind Ensemble including Fučík's "Entry of the Gladiators," Fennell describes Fucik as "totally unknown" except for that one work. But in the liner notes for "Macho Marches" in the late 1970s, Fennell marvels at how prolific Fučìk was, observing that "Florentiner" is his Opus 214!
(Exclamation point Fred's.)
This is the ULTIMATE well mixed march ever. It has everything and nothing to much. The small and destinct play and the following brutal intro and vice versa hits crazy.
I love this march thanks
This is one dazzling March you have here! It has kick!! Beautiful progressions! Impressive illustration of ships in the harbor!!!

Lovely march, I first heard it in brass in the film 'brassed off'.
Ich höre das gerne!
I’m curious about the original key. I have the American Star Journal 2038 version, arranged by M.L. Lake and published by Carl Fischer in 1916 (MCMXVI), which starts in E-flat concert, and the Trio in A-flat. This version sees to be one whole step higher. Edit: And now it seems I have the answer after listening to several other offerings. The original is most likely for orchestra, while the American market would want it suited to the American military band, hence a whole step lower.
Absolutely fantastic!
Wonderful !!!
And the picture is plainly from Kaiser Franz-Joseph's state visit to Venice, since Florence has a little river and the tall building in the background is St Mark's square tower.
This picture is "Emperor Franz I in Zara"
Julius Fučík did great job!
As always

When you are austrian and you wanna retake a territory😂
I noticed that Austrian Military Marches have always a lot of spunk in them and are more Light Heartened, unlike the more sombre German ones.
I wonder why that is?
Could it be that Austrian and German Culture ARE Different and Diverse?
Austria is one of many German cultures, you have dozens of different subcultures between South Tyrol and Schleswig. But pls don´t separate Austria from Germany culturally.
Dr. Ludwig - I did not separate Germany and Austria Culturally, I merely pointed out, with Tongue in Cheek, that Europe is DIVERSE already, has always been and really doesn't NEED DIVERSIFICATION by Third "World" Parties.
Where I grew up you could drive a few kilometers through the Forest into another Village, into another World.
Even though we spoke the "SAME" Language (in the written form at last, not the spoken one) and belonged to the same Municipality.
But I guess that the Germany has changed to such a degree that I most likely would not recognize the Country after being gone for almost 30 years now.
But it's still my "Home" and my People and I hate what I see happening there.
What the Traitorous Political, Social, Media and Academented "Elite" is trying to do.
March of Bohemian part of the Austrian Empire.

Are you sure this is an Austrian march and not a Czech one? - Although I must admit, the way it is played definitely makes it sound more Austrian than how I have known it so far.
That's not easy to say, it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire and ofc citizens from all over the empire learned at directly Austrian music choirs the Austrian marching style. But those marches are part of the Austrian tradition and usually named as being Austrian everywhere, even if the composer is of Czech heritage.
I think this is a Czech march...
Doesn't matter, it's beautiful

Ja, aber was soll man machen.Muss man halt mit leben.
I need a name, but I don’t know a good name Ich glaube man kann etwas verändern.
The problem is that it is an Italian march (Grande marcia Italiana). Where is the expertise?
Was meinst du damit?
