My grandfather made sure my dad learned everything about how to take care of a horse and how to ride cavalry. That was in NYC. That came in handy in the Pacific, when they captured a Japanese officer along with his horse. My dad was the only one who could ride it.

During my primary school music classes in my old country Macedonia and also every January 1st, there was a live broadcast of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra New Years day concert on the Macedonian national television. As a German and now 42 years in Canada. the nearest I ever came to the Austrian Hungarian empire was at the Ukrainian city of Lemberg. My taxi driver to my hotel could not speak a word English or German. After we reached the cobble stone street of the city. I did say the word Habsburg und we both understand that this road was build under the Habsburg Empire on or before 1918

As a child, in the early 1950s, I saw an "animation" on television of some robotic-type lines of soldiers marching in formation to the tune of the Radetzky March. Then a statue of a violinist "came to life" and starting playing and all of the military soldier-robots fell apart. I wish I could find someone to tell me the name of that animation! I believe it was an European production.
Used throughout the 1950s to 1970s as the signature before Sean Og O'Ceallaghain read the GAA sports results on RTE radio every Sunday night. It was a remarkable build up for people awaiting the result of local games in the era before mobiles.
