I would advise to get your kidney function checked after about 6 months. SOME people have an decrease in their EGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) to make sure your kidneys are good. Esp. if eating a lot of red meat along w/5gms creatine per day. I speak from personal experience. My blood test for last 15 plus years always showed my creatinine levels just above high. Dr. s always flip out and one diagnosed me with stage 3 kidney disease (mild). I then stopped for 3 months than it went back normal. (if blood creatinine levels are high, they will do a 24 hr. urine to measure eFGR for kidney function, how well are kidneys working etc. At the time my Dr. happened to be a hematologist and realized i was very healthy, lean, and I compete in mountain bike racing that this was no big deal. HOWEVER, my new Dr. who is a family internal med Dr. freaked out due to my slightly elevated blood creatinine levels. I explained to her what I do and what other Dr. said. She insisted I do 24 urine and measure eFGR and it came out in the "stage 3 category. I agreed to stop creatine and 6 months later everything was back to "normal" which means that specific lab parameters. So, what I do now is take 5gms every other day (I am KETO and also eat a lot of red meat) and sometimes skip 2 days. I will be curious what my blood creatinine comes out to in a few more months. So, be aware that some peoples kidney function could be a little affected by creatine (forcing kidneys to work harder) and that it MAY cause issues. I also work in medical field x24 years, was a lab tech x10 years and I a certified whole health coach, so I see how many different people react to these types of things. Also, if you workout a lot and get your blood test within a day or so, your blood creatinine levels most likely will be elevated due to the muscle damage and if you carry a lot of muscle this will be elevated also. Many Dr. s do not keep up with modern nutrition studies etc. and go by "older science". Be aware. Yes I am still exercising and riding @51, very lean and feel great.

Creatine does not increase production of ATP. It increases short term storage capacity of ATP in muscles. Your muscles use creatine to store ATP in a form that is more accessible to the muscle for fast consumption before the muscle has to start either anaerobically or aerobically producing more.

Yes, you can take it. If you're on a weight loss journey just keep in mind creatine retains water in your muscles, so if your measurements and/or your weight goes up when you start taking it, don't feel discouraged, it's just water weight, not fat! Creatine helps you build muscle (if you exercise), and muscle makes your body naturally burn more calories. In conclusion, if creatine helps you gain muscle mass, and muscle mass increases your daily calorie expediture, in the long run it can help with fat loss. I hope this was helpful.
