I don't get why Australians called this squad an understrength Australia when all key players were there except Sam Kerr and 1st goalie? Bizarre. France also lost Henry, key midfield player (who was non-chalantly taken down by reckless Crummer who isn't a defender but forward).
This European sojourn by the Matildas should have ended 0-5 & 1-4 in favour of Les Bleus & the Lionesses. Generosity of the French as good hosts in the first match & flagrant refereeing errors against the English kept the Aussies overall tally to 0-2 & 1-1. Unfortunately their media is busy sweeping reality under the carpet.
I'm not trying to deny what you said but Australia could have played better if they weren't missing many of their key players... Including the 1st goalkeeper. This goalie (Mackenzie Arnold) isn't very good with decision making especially when she has the ball. But I guess it was a great experience and exposure for her playing in Europe against teams ranked 4th and 3rd.
Well, I haven't seen any "sweeping reality under the carpet". Aussie commentators (during the game and in post-match discussion) and main coach admitted that 2-0 and 1-1 were flattering results for Matildas and that it was wake up call. But I think such results are a bit more worrying for England and France as well. Too wasteful. Again.
@@robertwill23 I never criticized commentators, ex-players & coach although the Matilda's website was not that forthcoming. And totally agree with you regarding France - like the sun rising in the East somethings never change. What the hell was Le Sommer doing playing on the wing - I don't know maybe an experiment? England were unlucky recipients of some flagrant refereeing mistakes but also have themselves to blame. But most importantly officiating standards have to improve in WoSo. Let's all pressurize FIFA to incorporate VAR in the coming World Cup.

How are they bench warmers? It's whole Australian starting line-up except Sam Kerr and Wiliams, the goalie. As far as I can see.
