- Right analog stick camera controls in Unity with Cinemachine
Be sure to check out my Unity for Complete Beginners course on Udemy here: www.udemy.com/course/learning...
In this video I will show you a quick way to adjust the Unity Input Manager settings to allow you to control Cinemachine Free Look Camera's with the right analog stick on a gamepad.
This video is on using the original/old input system in Unity. This can be done with the new input system as well but with different steps.

If you do want to see some basic Cinemachine videos in the future let me know below. Thanks for watching.
Thanks dude this is exactly what I was looking for! Quick note though, If the camera starts moving left infinitely and never stopping, then change the mouse X to the third joystick axis and mouse Y the 6th.
Awesome thanks for the tip
This fix only* works for PS 4 controllers, (*I am not sure about Xbox because I don't have one.)
use the unity community controller mapping documentation to figure out which axis and buttons are default to your specific controller (I have a generic USP gamepad) and map the X and Y axis, accordingly. I hope this helps.
omg man. I wasted 10 hours today to find a solution for the right stick to work as a mouse in Unity.
you are an angel. thank you so much. love you.
Glad I could help! I remember the first time I was trying to get this to work it took forever to figure out.
Exactly what I needed, quick and concise. Thanks so much :D
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching I appreciate it
thank you, after 2 year buying my controller I am done learning how to use my right joystick.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the information. Really helpful. I was trying to make joystick controller works like a first person camera to mobile device.
Glad it helped, took me a while to figure out when I was searching how to do it so figured it would help others a bit
Thank you!!!!! So helpful!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you it helped me so much
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Well done pro this video is the only one of it's kind i search in UA-cam more than 1 day & finally found your video keep going forward making such videos i hope your channel grows, like & subscribe 👍
Thanks, glad it helped out. I will be trying to get more active again after the summer and get a lot more regular content up.
@@MetalStormGames There are a lot of long videos, and their content is repeated. It may be a short video, but its content is more specialized, and this is more useful, good luck
@@Diamond-yn4nu Thank you, really appreciate hearing that
Thanks for the basic tutorial
No problem! hope it helped out
thanks a lot man, really helpful:)
Awesome, glad to hear that.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Awesome man!
Thanks!
Muito Obrigado, você me ajudou muito.
Si Seño, Great!
That's so fucking smart, holy shit...
Perfect... THX...
thanks for watching, glad it helped
Awesome vid, nearly got it working! could you explain why the Y axis isn't working? It wont move at all, and all my spellings are correct. It immediately puts the value at 1 when playing. Thanks!
scratch that - fixed it! Just changed Mouse Y to 7th axis in case anyone else gets this
Awesome glad to hear and thanks for posting the info
I'm having some trouble. The Horizontal axis sometimes records the value as -1 instead of 0. It's not an issue with the controller or the dead zone (or sensitivity). It just randomly starts rotating the camera to the left and never stops. Any help would be appreciated!
Never experienced that so not too sure off hand but I can try poking around to see if I think of anything. I dont use this too often but the time I wanted to it took forever to figure it out so figured it would make a simple video to show once it worked. If I find anything will let you know but I am not too advanced with Cinemachine
I have exactly the same issue. Any solution?
@Perfect Octogon@@bellocktx5800 A little late but try messing with the Axis for Mouse X and Mouse Y you created. I found making the Mouse X the 3rd Axis, and Mouse Y the 6th Axis worked on my DS4 Controller. Hope this helps.
@@brand2807 you are the actual godsend. my goodness it is insane how hard it has been to find documentation on how to get a 3rd person camera control working for GAMEPAD. FOR CONTROLLER. TWIN STICKS. but lo and behold this video got it half the way but THIS COMMENT carried it over the finish line. thank you so much man.
Wowwww
How do you control its movement with left stick?
How can I do it with the new Unity Input system?
I havent done a lot other than the basics with the new input system yet so not sure off hand, I would assume there is a component or setting on cinemachine that will work almost automatically with it though but would have to dig in to it to see sorry.
How can I make the Y Axis look up and down not zoom in?
I am not sure off hand without digging in to it but I think there might be options for that built in to Cinemachine but I am not sure if it is the free look camera or a different camera type. I will make a note to try checking in to that but it might be a bit before I get to it.
This game looks great. is it out already?
This was not actually anything I finished, just a little prototype I was playing around with to test some mechanics out. I should go back to it though it was really fun.
@@MetalStormGames ye physics look really good
@@nikro7239 Thank you, they were really fun. I always wanted to make a game like Twisted Metal and should attempt it again.
you have a nice car controlller !
can you tall me your aproach ?
I dont have that project anymore to look at the specifics but what I did was I made 4 raycasts at the tire positions aiming down to look for the ground and they would apply downlard force to the ground on the car. I will see if I can dig up a project somewhere. I found the idea from a tutorial on youtube but I can not recall which one.
@@MetalStormGames cool thank you so much
How did you get rid of the jitter?
I have never really had any issues with jitter on cinemachine cameras. Maybe its the movement controller of your object causing it?
You may want to try a new project just for a test to see if its something with cinemachine settings or your project, that could help narrow it down a lot atleast.
Try setting Rigidbody -> Interpolate -> Interpolate, and Rigidbody -> Collision Detection -> Continuous
not good
What is not good?
